dovecot and avahi
I am trying to figure out if I need avahi on my mail server. I see that POP3 and IMAP are services that Avahi can advertise/discover. Does Dovecot work with Avahi and how do you get POP3 and IMAP advertised? And perhaps more importantly, what clients look for mail services this way? I can't find any information on this in the Dovecot documentation ot googling. Perhaps my search fu is

How do I list avahi advertisements
how do I find out what avahi services my server is advertising? I installed avahi-tools and tried avahi-browse -a (and -ac) and nothing was listed. I find it hard to believe that my system that has apache up and running is not advertising anything?

Questions on making a kickstart cfg
So I took the anaconda cfg, commented out the partition/disk pieces and ran it off my repo server and it almost worked. Little things like not including things I had done on network setup. No first boot.... :) So now I am reading up on building a kickstart cfg http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/KickStart http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.2/Installation_Guide/s1-kickstart2-howuse.html

How to avoid "firstboot" in CentOS 7 kickstart
Dear Experts, Sorry about taking shortcut and asking everybody... My question is: how do you avoid "firstboot" screen in latest CentOS 7.3 kickstart. I have installed about a dozen of CentOS 7 (none of which was 7.3) with that kickstart file. None of them ever went to firstboot screen on first boot. Now after kickstart installation of CentOS 7.3 it goes into firstboot screen showing

32-bit Centos 5.1 kickstart hangs on xen domU HVM installation
I am trying to a install Centos 5.1 32-bit Xen HVM DomU onto a Centos 5.1 64bit DomU with the default xen installed and the kickstart hangs at random points during the install process. Sometimes retrieving the image, sometimes formatting the filesystem, sometimes installing the packages, etc. I tried upgrading to xen 3.2 and encounter the same problem before rebuilding back to stock Centos 5.1

Kickstart issue: 'dialog' doesn't work in %post, CentOS 5.5
Hi, all. I'm trying to customize a CentOS installation cd, but got trouble with kickstart. I want to use dialog[1] for command line based user interface, but it can't display correctly in kickstart with CentOS 5.5. Same ks file works with CentOS 5.3 (both i386 and x86_64). What's the different between CentOS 5.3/5.5? I can't find it in release notes. And how can i fix it? Thanks

Cannot use kickstart file to install CentOS 6.2 into a blank harddisk
I am trying using a kickstart file to install CentOS 6.2 into a new virtual machine (the MBR sector of the harddisk is all zero), however I found that the installer cannot go through the harddisk partition. It failed after I chose "Use All Space" at harddisk partition option. The error message is: http://anony.ws/i/bMcTJ.png "You have not defined a root partition (/), which is

Kickstart is my friend
I just had to change the install command to use ftp. I had to uncomment all of the drive partitioning commands. At first I was confused as to the partitioning failure, then figured out that the partitioning commands were commented out. Most likely to prevent an unwanted disk clearing. Only things: Did stop at the bootup to create a user id. Not a big deal in this case, as I was logging

interactive %pre in kickstart?
Here's what I'm currently doing in ks.cfg: %pre #!/bin/sh echo -n "Please enter blah: " read blah echo $blah > /tmp/ks-blah I know that "read blah" works fine, because after that I see the variable in the /tmp file. The problem is, echo doesn't seem to work at this stage. This pretty much kills the idea of an interactive %pre script. I was thinking to

CentOS 7 kickstart repo directive
Is the kickstart repo directive broken under CentOS 7? Every attempt with a repo directive in the kickstart file fails during the software selection step. Removing the repo directives and the packages from those repos under %packages makes it work. On console 2, I have verified that the (NFS) repos specified in the kickstart file are mounted and that the repo metadata has been copied over to

preventing apache from being a mail relay
I am trying to recall back at least 2 years, and my notes are poor, and my searching appears to be worst... Seems I recall that last when I set up my apache server, the spammers were posting to it so it would send out the spam on port 25. There was some conf that I did to block this, but I did not document it, and I can't find any reference to this. I don't think my memory is that
