Old HP Xeon server blade with only SCSI HDD ports & CentOS
Hi there. I got myself a pair of old Intel Xeon blades, which I plan to repurpose with CentOS. The model is : HP bl20p-g3 server blade Manual http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12322_ca/12322_ca.pdf Now, the main problem with this hardware is that LVD UW SCSI HDDs are hard to find and hella expensive if you find em (and of reduced capacity). Any of you know: 1. If there's any

Network throughput testing software available for CentOS/Linux
Hello everyone, A network engineer buddy of mine brought up for discussion with me that he'd like to do some throughput testing, but he's new to Linux/RedHat. Is there any software I can recommend to him that any of you find above par for CentOS 6/7? Thanks! I see there's a release today or so from Oracle of a new zero-day vulnerability. Any idea how soon we'll have an update? <https://threatpost.com/en_us/blogs/oracle-rushes-emergency-java-update-patch-mcrat-vulnerabilities-030413> mark

Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3 - slightly OT
I've noticed recently that the latest version of Adobe's Acrobat Reader (9.3) has a really annoying tendency to stop for 30-60 seconds shortly after it starts up to read/display a PDF file. I don't see this on my Windows copies, just on CentOS. Anyone know what's up with that? Thanks. mhr

Is Java insecure ?
Hi Everyone I am considering learning Java. There have been well publicized Java security incidents recently that make me not want to learn it. However it's in Centos and I trust Centos, are the concerns in the media blown out of proportion ? -Patrick

Acrobat Reader from dag
Hi! I was wondering if the acroread from your site is somehow stripped of web browser support (dag for RHEL4/CentOS4.3)? Can't seem to find the howto or other files anywhere... Cheers, MaZe.

Acrobat Reader broken on CentOS 4.3
I have had Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.1 installed on my CentOS 4.2 desktop and it worked fine. After upgrading to 4.3, I can't get it to come up anymore. I downloaded Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 and it does the same. I'd appreciate any suggestions on what to look for, since the executable and the startup scripts are not giving me any useful errors to chase. -- Ron Loftin

Acrobat Reader version for CentOS 3?
Having had a working version of Acrobat Reader, I upgraded to 7.0.5 a couple of days ago (without backing up the previous install, of course). Unfortunately, the acroread command fails with: GTK+ UI Toolkit libraries, ver. 2.4 or greater were not found. The (CentOS 3) standard libraries for gtk+ etc. are installed. Anyone know what is the most recent compatible version of Acrobat Reader for

Native ZFS on Linux
Once upon a time, Joerg Schilling <Joerg.Schilling at fokus.fraunhofer.de> said: > Note that it is without doubt that ZFS was not derived from the Linux kernel > and thus cannot be a derived work. All that matters for CentOS is: 1: Red Hat doesn't ship ZFS because of Red Hat's lawyers' interpretation of GPL+CDDL 2: Arguing about it here will not change #1 3: CentOS

Unattended install of CentOS in a VM with given login/password?
Is there a way to make CentOS install unattended, right from the boot until I can SSH into it?. I'd like being able to boot a new Virtualbox virtual machine right from the CentOS ISO, and then from the Virtualbox host, ssh into the brand new VM client and customize it using SSH shell scripts (SU, yum install, etc). Is there any way to tweak the ISO to specify "unattended install"

Does anyone use tcp wrappers (hosts.allow/hosts.deny) anymore?
Does anyone use tcp wrappers (hosts.allow/hosts.deny) anymore? And, would you care strongly if it went away (or would you just migrate to something else)? I bring this up because we are discussing dropping it from Fedora. This would be far enough in the future that it wouldn't impact RHEL 7, and therefore won't affect anyone here for Quite Some Time*, but here in the new world order of

Bug in Acrobat Reader 7 (or R?) with translucent text
My setup: R 2.4.0, Windows 2000, Acrobat Reader 7. When I create a .pdf with translucent colors, the translucency works correctly for points, but not for text. Below is some R code that creates a .pdf with this phenomenon. I was going to report this as a bug in R, but then I tried to view the pdf with a couple of other viewers and found that at least one of the viewers correctly displayed the

followup to request for centos C/W
just to follow on my earlier post, i have pointers to a couple commercial C/W manuals for RHEL administration, but both of them use an entire chapter discussing virtualization using Xen. i'm under the impression that RH is firmly in the KVM camp (at least for now), and that learning Xen on red hat/centos wouldn't be as useful as learning KVM. thoughts? rday --

OT: How can I tell if a web site is now blocking IPs from my country?
I have always been able to browse, without any problems, http://www.mobile-review.com/index-en.shtml but for the past 2 or 3 days, Mozilla Firefox just hangs "connecting to ...." How can I tell if they have started blocking IP addresses from Colombia? I would like to do that, before I post to the IPCop mailing list. I have my IPCop box set up to do DNS Caching, so possibly something

Xen Database vms
Are "centralized" database (SQL) servers best left out of virtualization and committed to their own hardware like the "old days" or are there some guidelines one should consider in setting them up? I'm not talking mega-large recordsets, but large enough to handle multiple years of CRMs and intensive querying, Accounting Systems and so forth. Fundamental website CMS

Small proxy appliance hardware
I need to configure a small proxy appliance which doesn't require a lot of CPU power. I'm looking for any warnings this group may have regarding CentOS-5 on the following: - Acer AspireRevo 3610 (Atom CPU) - Dell Inspiron 537s (Celeron) - Any other small machines you might recommend (UL approved) I need to implement dual NICs, and for the Dell it should be no problem finding a
