Odd Samba 4 ("4.2.0pre1-GIT-b505111"; actually only using client) behaviour #1 - "Could not fetch trust account password for domain ...".
Good day oh technical ones .
I was running Samba 4 (client only, not using it as a DC so
effectively running Samba 3 code from the Samba 4 tree) and, other than a
little "Gotcha!" regarding decoding Kerberos PACs, it was all working
perfectly.
Then recently I had to upgrade, to "4.2.0pre1-GIT-b505111"

"Samba 4" - "smbd"; "can't parse the PAC: NT_STATUS_BUFFER_TOO_SMALL" error but only for a single domain user ("Server 2008 R2" domain, "Server 2008" functional level forest).
Hello,
We're having a problem with "Samba 4" joined to a "Server 2008 R2" domain
(at "Server 2008" functional level across the forest).
The interesting thing is that this only affects a single user - all other
accounts work without problems.
When accessing our main server using that account, "smbd" always reports
"can't parse the PAC:

ACL changes on Samba NT 4.0 Member Server
I have a Samba 3.0.24-7 on Fedora 6 as a member of an Windows NT 4.0
domain, with a simple share setup with ACLs. The permissions on the
share from Windows XP Pro Security tab shows Everyone, and root (Unix
Group\root) without any Permissions. When trying to add permissions
from XP while logged on as CPDOM+admin the error is display "Unable to

primary GID based access for user in 16 supplementary groups
We observe a difference between a Windows 7 client and Windows 2003/XP client when accessing directories that should be accessible via the UNIX accounts primary group GID. Windows client refuses access.
Ignoring for now why the two different client behaviours (either some subtle difference in the requests or the way the Samba reply is dealt with) the question is what should be the correct

Large backup files from ntbackup to a samba share
Hi all,
I'm experiencing a problem when NTBACKING'UP my W2000 Server files against
a Linux 2.4.9 + ReiserFS 3.6 file system + Samba share.
It works OK for the first 4 Gb's around file size. Then ntbackup stops
serving data and the file on the samba side appears to be downsized to 0 and
growing ssssslowly. Once you stop ntbackup by killing the process, the file
reappears at its real

create mask not fully working?
Hi
I have Debian/stable and samba 3.2.5.
I have set this (smb.conf):
...
create mode = 0770
directory mask = 0770

and the files created have those permissions:

-rwxrw---- 1 piotrlg piotrlg 10752 2010-05-06 14:51 nowy3.doc
please note the lack of x bit for group file permission (for directory
it works as expected).

strange locks
Hi,
I added these lines to smb.conf:
kernel op locks = false
op locks = false
strict locking = true
so I could see some locks from the unix level.
It worked sorta, I see the locks for big files
(but not the locks I was expecting), but for little
files it shows nothing:
# ./lock_list /opt/testsambashare/mattest.doc
# ./lock_list /opt/testsambashare/contents.doc

what does "streaming" mean?
what does "output reports" mean?
do you have more detailed reports?
do you have debugging output? what clients are involved?
what servers? does the same happen with openssh 3.0.2?

Cannot change File Attributes
Hi list,
i've upgraded Samba 3.0.14a to 3.0.20b (debian package) and ran into
following problem:
I cannot change the file-attribute (read-only, hidden, archive) from a
file via the windows explorer as an ordinary user. The error "access
denied" occurs.
The file has following permissions on Unix:
-rwxrw---- 1 root Massen 0 2005-10-28 08:17 Neu Textdatei.txt

anywhere where this exact issue has been posted.
am using samba 2.28 set up as an NT domain, there are no problems with
the general configuration. My issue is witb samba not following the
permissons I have set on files in a shared directory.
Purpose: set up a directory for students and teachers where students can

shared files not locked -> samba culprit or clients?
hello,
i have a question concerning the locking feature of samba (both 2.2.8
and 3.0.0) that i haven't found answered in the documentation. at this
point i am not sure, whether it's a bug in samba, the client
applications or simply a misunderstanding of the locking feature itself
on my part - at any rate it's a pressing problem, as my clients are
losing both their data as well as

Centos7 ds-389
Hello All,
I'm looking at setting up ds-389 on both Centos6.6 en Centos7, both
minimal installs with
epel repo enabled.
When running yum search ds-389 on Centos7 I get only 3 packages,
389-ds-base
389-ds-base-devel
389-ds-base-libs
On Centos6.6 I get the whole list:
389-ds.noarch : 389 Directory, Administration, and Console Suite
389-ds-base.x86_64 : 389 Directory Server (base)
