nouveau interrupts firewire ISO streaming
Hi!
After switching from UMS (dated 20090701+c0bf670) to KMS (as of
2010-02-01), almost any X activity causes buffer underruns on my
firewire soundcard.
When the X pointer changes from arrow to the vertical text selection
bar, firewire streaming is interrupted. Same with scrolling in firefox
or hovering over a link, thus changing the pointer to "hand".
Looks like nouveau is disabling

Are there repositories which will help a centos die-hard nerd to run

with desktops for rendering and the such)?

Monitor Dummy Device
When i do presentation i have this workflow:
I connect the beamer on my notebook so i have dualscreen. On my notebook
screen i have all icons/windows i need. The things i want to show i move
to the 2. desktopscreen (the beamer).
If i want to be independent of the cable-end of the beamer i do this:
i connect a second monitor to my notebook and i stream the screen of the
2. monitor with ffmpeg

Yes, with a cable connect it is possible, of course.
But i dont like it to be restricted in my movement by wired to a hdmi-cable.

Wine doesn't start - Something X-Related
Hello,
For work I need a large DB once or twice a month and I installed a Ubuntu-Server 64bit box headless and put the Windows-Software there. I thought that I would VNC into it, when I need it.
But if I run Wine after installation I got this error:
Code:
err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out

read.dta for files from stata 9.0
Dear R-helpers,
if I want to read a .dta-file generated by stata 9.0 with read.dta
(foreign), I get the message
"not a stata version 5-8 .dta-file". I'm using R-2.6.2 and the latest
version of the foreign package. Has someone any hint?
With many thanks,

GNUplot to R conversion?
Hi,
I have some scripts creating GNUplot graphs that I would like to
convert to R. It would be a great help if there would be a
reasonable converter that takes over plot commands and initial
settings and put these into R commands (I'm an R beginner and
thus this kind of Kickstart would be helpful).
Remark: Asking Google for "gnuplot to R conversion" or similar things
does not

Subset: data frames and factor levels
Hi!
I'm doing:
etni <- subset(etni, NAMECOM!="Maniquisito")
where etni is a data.frame, NAMECOM a factor and "Maniquisito" labels
a row that I want to delete.
The problem is that while the row is deleted, the factor level is still
there (I can see "Maniquisito" if I do levels(etni$NAMECOM) ).
I know I can get the appropriate levels by:

smoothest way to upgrade R, say from 2.6.1 to 2.6.2?
Like many software assemblies, R is updated frequently. Also, it
creates its own release-numbered directory when it is installed.
Packages get dumped into the subdirectory "library". I have a personal
habit of storing documents related to R packages in the "doc"
subdirectory.
Here are my questions.
(1) How do people manage an upgrade, from 2.6.1, say, to 2.6.2? 2.6.2
