Gluster Self Heal
Hi, I have a 2-node gluster with 3 TB storage. 1) I believe the "glusterfsd" is responsible for the self healing between the 2 nodes. 2) Due to some network error, the replication stopped for some reason but the application was accessing the data from node1. When I manually try to start "glusterfsd" service, its not starting. Please advice on how I can maintain

Gluster machines slowing down over time
I have 2 gluster servers in replicated mode on EC2 with ~4G RAM CPU and RAM look fine but over time the system becomes sluggish, particularly networking. I notice when sshing into the machine takes ages and running remote commands with capistrano takes longer and longer. Any kernel settings people typically use? Thanks, Tom -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

Very slow directory listing and high CPU usage on replicated volume
Hi all, I am having problems with painfully slow directory listings on a freshly created replicated volume. The configuration is as follows: 2 nodes with 3 replicated drives each. The total volume capacity is 5.6T. We would like to expand the storage capacity much more, but first we need to figure this problem out. Soon after loading up about 100 MB of small files (about 300kb each), the

Howto find out volume topology
Hello, I would like to find out the topology of an existing volume. For example, if I have a distributed replicated volume, what bricks are the replication partners? Debian Squeeze packages available for Gluster 3.4.0-alpha2
I've made packages for Debian Squeeze for Gluster 3.4.0-alpha2, they are available on http://torbjorn-dev.trollweb.net/gluster-3.4.0alpha2-debs/. They built and installed successfully, and have been running nicely for a couple of hours, but your mileage may vary. The Debian packaging is on http://torbjorn-dev.trollweb.net/gluster-3.4.0alpha2-debs/glusterfs-3.4.0-debian.tar.gz. I took the

Self-heal and high load
Hi all, I'm pretty new to Gluster, and the company I work for uses it for storage across 2 data centres. An issue has cropped up fairly recently with regards to the self-heal mechanism. Occasionally the connection between these 2 Gluster servers breaks or drops momentarily. Due to the nature of the business it's highly likely that files have been written during this time. When the

GlusterFS failover with UCarp
Hi, we've successfully configured GlusterFS mirroring across two identical nodes [1]. We're running the file share under a Virtual IP address using UCarp. We have different clients connected using NFS, CIFS and GlusterFS. When we simulate a node failure, by unplugging it, it takes about 5 seconds for the CIFS and GlusterFS clients to refresh the connection and continue operation. The

Avoid Split-brain and other stuff
Hi! I just gave GlusterFS a try and experienced two problems. First some background: - I want to set up a file server with synchronous replication between branch offices, similar to Windows DFS-Replication. The goal is _not_ high-availability or cluster-scaleout, but just having all files locally available at each branch office. - To test GlusterFS, I installed two virtual machines

GlusterFS 3.3 beta on Debian
Hi, I'm attempting to install the 3.3 beta3 on Debian. The files are located in a directory that looks like they were built for Debian Lenny, here: http://download.gluster.org/pub/gluster/glusterfs/qa-releases/3.3.0beta3/Debian/5.0.3/ Note the 5.0.3 at the end of the path.. However, when attempting to install the .deb file, it gives an error about package libssl1.0.0 being missing. That

Performance optimization tips Gluster 3.3? (small files / directory listings)
Hi, I'm using Gluster 3.3.0-1.el6.x86_64, on two storage nodes, replicated mode (fs1, fs2) Node specs: CentOS 6.2 Intel Quad Core 2.8Ghz, 4Gb ram, 3ware raid, 2x500GB sata 7200rpm (RAID1 for os), 6x1TB sata 7200rpm (RAID10 for /data), 1Gbit network I've it mounted data partition to web1 a Dual Quad 2.8Ghz, 8Gb ram, using glusterfs. [3.3 beta3] When should the self-heal daemon be triggered?
Hi, I eventually installed three Debian unstable machines, so I could install the GlusterFS 3.3 beta3. I have a question about the self-heal daemon. I'm trying to get a volume which is replicated, with two bricks. I started up the volume, wrote some data, then killed one machine, and then wrote more data to a few folders from the client machine. Then I restarted the second brick server.

Can't run KVM Virtual Machines on a Gluster volume
I just built a 2 node(4 bricks), Distributed-Replicated and everything mounts fine. Each node mounts using GlusterFS client on its hostname (mount -t glusterfs hostname:VOLUME /virtual-machines) When creating a new Virtual Machine using virt-manager it creates the file on the storage, but when trying to power it On, it doesn't work and gives back an error message.(See below. how well will this work
Hi Folks, I find myself trying to expand a 2-node high-availability cluster from to a 4-node cluster. I'm running Xen virtualization, and currently using DRBD to mirror data, and pacemaker to failover cleanly. The thing is, I'm trying to add 2 nodes to the cluster, and DRBD doesn't scale. Also, as a function of rackspace limits, and the hardware at hand, I can't separate

Retraction: Protocol stacking: gluster over NFS
Hi All, Well, it <http://goo.gl/hzxyw> was too good to be true. Under extreme, extended IO on a 48core node, some part of the the NFS stack collapses and leads to an IO lockup thru NFS. We've replicated it on 48core and 64 core nodes, but don't know yet whether it acts similarly on lower-core-count nodes. Tho I haven't had time to figure out exactly /how/ it collapses, I

Error when creating volume
Hello, I've removed a volume and I can't re-create it : gluster volume create gluster-export gluster-6:/export gluster-5:/export gluster-4:/export gluster-3:/export /export or a prefix of it is already part of a volume I've formatted the partition and reinstalled the 4 gluster servers and the error still appears. Any idea ? Thanks. -- -------------- next part --------------

Rev Your (RDMA) Engines for the RDMA GlusterFest
It's that time again ? we want to test the GlusterFS 3.4 beta before we unleash it on the world. Like our last test fest, we want you to put the latest GlusterFS beta through real-world usage scenarios that will show you how it compares to previous releases. Unlike the last time, we want to focus this round of testing on Infiniband and RDMA hardware. For a description of how to do this, see

New version of UFO - is there a new HOWTO?
I just installed glusterfs-swift 3.3.1 on a couple of Fedora 18 servers. This is based on swift 1.7.4 and has keystone in the config. I had experimented with the one based on swift 1.4.8 and tempauth and had some problems with it. The HOWTO I can find is still for the old one. Is there an updated one? I would also need to find some instructions on setting up keystone from scratch for
