IMAP folders sort order
Hi all We migrated our IMAP server from Courier to Dovecot. The minor problem appeared: Dovecot LIST command now shows mailbox listing in some weird order. (I suppose, it is filesystem directory order) Previously, with Courier, it was sorted, i.e., the INBOX was the first, followed by other system folders. This is not a problem with our webmail, because it sorts folders by its own. But with some

Gnu sieve vs Dovecot sieve-filter - sieve-filter extremely slow at lda (writing emails to local mbox files)
I am wondering why sieve-filter is so slow compared to gnu sieve. I run mpop (like getmail) to download from a pop3 server to a local mbox file: ~/mail/email-incoming-unsorted This step is very fast. The next step, I throw the email-incoming-unsorted mbox file at a sieve processor, to sort the emails from that mbox, into other mboxes, according to the sieve rules file. Up until a couple days

getmail and Dovecot LDA deliver
Hello, my first post in this list. Hope it's the right place.:-) I'm having a problem running getmail together with Dovecot LDA for virtual users. To achive this I let getmail run under the user that owns the virtual email accounts-root. The problem is that getmail is running under the user vmail and therefore the emails received will be put into vmail's mailbox. But the emails

Client Identification
I have two seperate clients (using fetchmail) on two seperate machines that use the same login and the same ip address as each other fetching their mail over IMAP using IMAP idle. Naturally Dovecot assumes that they are the same machine but they are not so messages only get downloaded to one of the machines rather than both which is what I want. How do I get Dovecot to recognize them as two

Using deliver from Getmail?
Hello list, a quick question: can I use Dovecot's LDA "deliver" as a destination in Getmail? I.e.: [destination] type = MDA_external path = /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/deliver arguments = ("-d", "username",) Or is deliver not supposed to be called this way? What I'd like to do is use deliver in the same way I would have used procmail ages ago. Getmail

How do I get my mail from fetchmail into dovecot?
I have dovecot (with squirrel mail etc.) running without any problems but cannot understand how to get e-mail from a pop server into dovecot. I have fetchmail configured to pick up the mail from the pop3 server but don't understand how to get it from there into my dovecot mbox structure. New to mail servers! Thanks, Michael.

Dovecot namespace solved while writing; preparing to refilter
Hi! My plea to readers: =================== Pls., people who only want strictly technical issues to read, and frown at any broader context regardless how intrinsically related, but not strictly technically related, it might be, skip all the way, all the way to, search for exact words: "strictly technical" or visually, find two lines of sole "===" characters. Thank you!

How to manage email with an ISP restricted mailbox size?
Sorry if this is a bit off topic but I'm hoping list members here might have some ideas. Aim: use ISP provided email with restricted inbox size but keep an IMAP accessible archive of emails (including 'sent' messages) on a remote server. Scenario: - Don't want to run my own SMTP server - Have free ISP email with 1Gb mailbox limit and spam filtering that works well - Have remote

Syncing emails from external server like Gmail
Greeting I've managed to backup my emails from external email server via dsync and imapc: protocol like this: doveadm -Dv -o imapc_user='user at gmail.com' -o imapc_password="pass" -o imapc_host=imap.gmail.com backup -R -u duke at ejoom.com imapc: taken from https://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration/Dsync I wish to do regular syncing of 5min interval to substitute

Dovecot 2.1.10
Hi all, I've a problem with dovecot-2.1.10. At time we use dovecot-1.2 without zlib. We setup a new server with dovecot 2.1.10. After syncing the emails everything looks fine. But if we use zlib plugin all new emails have no content. There are a lot of "Error: Maildir filename has wrong S value" log entrys. So we have compiled dovecot-2.0.18 and we use exactly the same

Defer emails until the user is ready to deal with them (snooze button / bring-forward file / bring-up file for emails)
Hi, I would like to add a feature to my email-client (Thunderbird) which stops emails from showing up until a specific time (e.g. having buttons for: show again this evening, tomorrow, next week, next month ...). As far as I've learned this is not possible with IMAP: - storing the 'do-not-show-until-time' within a custom header-field requires down- and uploading of the whole email and

Best practice for sieve script synchronization
We consider deploying a two server active-active setup with dsync replication for ~2500 users. I was wondering how people handle sieve script synchronization in such setups. We came up with a few options for syncing: 1) rsync/unison ~/sieve every x seconds 2) move sieve dirs to separatate partition and sync with gluster or drbd 3) patch roundcube managesieve sieve plugin to upload

sieve
Hi, is there a sieve option that can reject a mail directly without creating a new mail and sending that out? I know about reject "Reject message goes here"; but I am looking for a mechanism that can reject Mail. Postfix can use reject_unverified_recipient to connect to LMTP and ask if a mail would successfully be enqueued and will return the status gotten from the LMTP server if not.

ACL and SSL
Finally got Dovecot to work on ports 100 and 143. I would like to a) Learn about ACL esp on port 110 as there are still yodellaks that try to brake in on port 110. b) Setting up separate SSL cert for imaps and pop3s. -- For effective Internet Etiquette and communications read http://catb.org/jargon/html/T/top-post.html, http://idallen.com/topposting.html &

Sieve also filter outgoing messages
Greetings, A probably simple question and answer: can a sieve script be executed on outgoing messages? I already use deliver on postfix, perhaps the sieve script could be executed when saving to the Sent folder? Regards, -- Marcio Merlone
