Failback mailboxes?
Hi!
Have been using Fedora as my dovecot server for
some time and am struggling with systemd
at every update.
Fedora insists on setting
ProtectSystem=full in both dovecot.service and postfix.service
at every update of the packages.
This makes my mailstore which is in /usr/local/var/mail
Read-only.
And this makes the incoming emails delivered through
dovecot-lda disappear into /dev/null until I

Is there a way to manually force an mdbox storage to be rebuilt into new
files? Particularly files of the maximum size?

Recovering expunged but not purged e-mails from mdbox with zlib compression
Yesterday I had to recover an e-mail which a user had deleted. If I
understand this correctly the message was expunged but not purged
(doveadm purge had not been run).
This e-mail was clearly still in the mdbox stored with zlib compression
as I could tell using the doveadm dump command (doveadm dump -t dbox
filename).
I could however not reveal the e-mail with the normal doveadm fetch -u

TPM
Hi all!
Just setting up a cluster using Centos 7
We have a desperate need for TPM support and:
1. Tried the "standard" distro install. linvirt supports
TPM passthrough but kvm-qemu barfs:
"unsupported configuration: The QEMU executable /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm does not support TPM backend type passthrough"
2. The activated the qemu-ev repo and updated qemu-kvm to version

Just verified after a lengthy compilation of the kernel
that the patch really works and now I can see a TPM on
the virtual side!

virsh support for TPM?
Hi again!
Succeeded in creating vtpmmgr-stubdom.gz from
the source RPM with some shortcuts.
ow the next problem seems to be that the
libvirt we have will not support the XEN vtpm:s
For example:
virsh dumpxml <vm-machine>
will not contain any info on the vtpm :-(
Am I really the first one around with a need for
TPM support in the VM:s ??

Expuning & Purging doesn't fully remove emails?
Hello, I'm facing an issue where deleted emails keep re-appearing after my mailbox index gets recreated.??I'm running version 2.2.36 of dovecot, but I tested the same scenario under 2.3.10. I'm also using mdbox, autoexpunge, and using dovecot replication.
I've had several instances now where some expunged emails show up again in a mailbox. I noticed this error:

Dovecot not surviving OpenLDAP restart
Hi!
Running Dovecot 2.2.36 and authenticating against
an OpenLDAP 2.4.45 server.
Now since some update of dovecot it will not be able to authenticate
your logins after a restart of the LDAP service is restarted
without a reboot of the dovecot server.
Anything new here that I should be aware of?
Best Regards

Questions about converting maildir to mdbox.
First of all i would like to thanks Timo for the excellent job done in
dovecot.
We are using it in you prodution server with about 5 millions of emails and
it is pretty good, only a performance problens but i guess it is realated to
ocfs2 that we are using.
So lets begin:
We are using dovecot 2.0.6 with maildir in an ocfs2 partiton.
It is pretty slow access in peak time, but it is related to

Question about indexes and maildir/sdbox/mdbox
Hello
We are now running dovecot 2.0.9 with indexes in a ram disk and
maildir storage in a test system. We have the following questions:
- If there is a power outage / kernel crash, we will lose the
content of ramdisk. We have tested that indexes are regenerated when a
user logs in via imap, so e-mail access will be "slower" after a power
outage / kernel crash, but

Expuning & Purging doesn't fully remove emails?
But is that not adviced in the manual[1]? I am also in the process of
setting up dovecot behind a haproxy. Still testing with this. I was
wondering why one would choose haproxy and not eg dovecot proxy (with
director)

Disk space usage with mdbox
Hello,
I am using dovecot with mdbox+sis and I notice an ever increasing disk
space usage since I converted mailboxes from Maildir to mdboxes. I have
checked with a user and while it actually uses only 65K, his mdbox files
on disk are more than 6G. The backup of his mailbox is just 64K. Any
suggestions ?
Below are some relevant commands:
[root at mail ~]# doveadm quota get -u test

lazy_expuge + mdbox
To a degree I agree .. given mdbox doesnt delete until purge .. but then
would be nice if purge took a dovecot search rather than just ditch
everything with refcount=0 ... in that way could say purge everything
thats been marked as delete according to a specified criteria.

Disk space usage with mdbox
Shot in the dark here...haven't tried it myself so no promises. There's
probably a much better way to do this but sometimes a little "brute
force" helps.
Theoretical steps:
1. Stop all mail processes - both SMTP and IMAP.
2. Use "doveadm sync" to backup the user mailbox, e.g.,
doveadm backup -u user mdbox:/tmp/usermail
3. Verify /tmp/usermail looks reasonable
