ypwhich -m
Hi, I found that ypwhich -m does not work on 6.1-RC, it shows ypwhich: can't find the master of `?`: reason: No such map in server's domain IIRC, there was a commit last year to fix this. After some search, I think it is include/rpcsvc/yp_prot.h revision 1.13 done by peter@ (CC'ed). As far as I can tell, ypwhich -m is also broken on 5.4 and 5.5-PRERELEASE. I have tested that

PF in 4.8-STABLE
My apologies in advance if this is the wrong list to ask this in, but how well does pf work in 4.8-STABLE? And if so, what kernel options do I need to compile in? Can pf kernel options coexist w/ IPFW options, if I keep the IPFW modulus from loading? Can I still bridge in regular fashion w/ pf? I've already read up on http://pf4freebsd.love2party.net/install.html, but this seemd a bit

Encrypted volume - how?
Hi all, I'm looking for a way to recreate the functionality of PGP Disk (under Win32). Basically, create an encrypted file, which contains a filesystem which can then be mounted in any mount point. I know I can use GELI in FreeBSD 6 - as I understand, it performs the encryption at the partition level (the whole partition is encrypted). I'd like to be able to simply unmount my

Kernel-loadable Root Kits
Thanks for the module, I think its a good idea to commit it to FreeBSD for a few reasons: 1) Some folks just prefer more static kernels. 2) Securelevel is a great thing, but can be a pain to do upgrades around remotely. [A lot of folks use FreeBSD simply because its a breeze to run remotely]. 3) Until someone writes code to add modules to a kernel via /dev/mem and releases it to the script

ee using 99% cpu after user ssh session terminates abnormaly
Recently i have been using a dialup 56k account to access the net and have noticed that when my ssh session times out and I am editing a file in ` ee ' the system goes to 99% cpu usage and stays like this till the pid is killed. This is a standard user account (not root/su) Would a user be able to create a denial of service condition on the remote system using this bug? (sorry if this is

Dell PE600SC with ServerWorks CSB6
Hello! Has anyone gotten 4.9R to recognize the "ServerWorks CSB6" ATA controller on a Dell 600SC? How about installing 5.2R on a 600SC? 5.2R recognizes the said controller, but it corrupts data. -- eof

Changing `security@freebsd.org' alias
Hello Folks, The official email address for this list is `freebsd-security@freebsd.org'. Due to convention, there is an email alias for this list: security@freebsd.org, just as there is for hackers@ & freebsd-hackers@, arch@ & freebsd-arch@, and so on. The security@freebsd.org alias has been the source of occassional problems. Several times in the past, postings have been made to

FireWire Security issues
Hello, looking into the issue described in the advisory below I wonder how to tackle this issues. Primarily I ask myself * is there any reason not to filter all physical memory access by default * what would be the appropriate way to change the filter set? a sysctl? ADS, pam_winbind and vsftpd
Greets ... I am not getting it. I have samba (old one, 3.0.22-11-SUSE-CODE10) in an ADS-context, winbind works OK ... I am trying to connect vsftpd to winbind via PAM, this works TOO GOOD ;-) currently I am able to login to vsftpd with ANY password, that's bad. I am not understanding that PAM-stuff and I have some pressure to get that ftp-server up, so please would someone help me out? My

MCLUST Covariance Parameterization.
Hello all (especially MCLUS users). I'm trying to make use of the MCLUST package by C. Fraley and A. Raftery. My problem is trying to figure out how the (model) identifier (e.g, EII, VII, VVI, etc.) relates to the covariance matrix. The parameterization of the covariance matrix makes use of the method of decomposition in Banfield and Rraftery (1993) and Fraley and Raftery (2002) where

French computer scientist Antoine Joux reported on Aug. 12 his discovery of a flaw in the MD5 algorithm, which is often used with digital signatures...." There's more in the article cited above. I used a copy of the .cfg and adapted to my needs to make the gentoo work. when booting the minimal install image using
