xyplot help
I am ploting gridded time series data. I would like the actual lat and lon value appear on the graph-if possible inside the graph as numbers. If there is also more elegant ways to plot the graphs I will appreciate more suggestions. ################################# library(ggplot2) library(lattice) month <- c("Jan", "Feb", "Mar", "Apr", "May",

HELP DATA CLIPPING AND DATA OVERLAY ON A MAP
I have csv data that extend beyond the area I want for an existing map. I want using the boundaries of the polygon shape file as a cookie cutter so that I can overlay the csv data on map without including anything outside the map boundaries and create a dbf file or shapefile of the clipped data .  The reproducible example: ############################################### library(RColorBrewer)

lattice: double y - problem changing axis color after doubleYScale
Hi, I have had some troubles using doubleYScale. No matter what I try, I cant manage to change the color of the y-axis in the end. I have to produce a black and white plot. There is also something I do not understand regarding fontfamilyj="serif" when using it in: strip=strip.custom() Maybe someone has a better idea for defining which line and dots belong to which y-axis when not using

Netcdf and Raster Package Questions, Need .asc File for GIS
Hello R-Group, I am new working with netcdf files and the raster package in R.I am trying to read in a netcdf file using the package "ncdf".I am able to get the lat, lon and parameter I need and can plot using fill.contour.Ultimately, I am trying to create a .asc file to reafd into GIS.I am using the package "raster" to read the parameter. When I read in with

Plot/manage spatial boundary data
I have some disconnected boundary data from a finite element ocean model and I'd like to make a plot. Maptools looks promising, but since my data is not in a shapefile or a map, I'm unclear on what the best way to approach the problem. >geom[1:10,] lon lat depth 1 -75.42481 35.58192 16.172 2 -75.40726 35.58567 18.045 3 -75.41351 35.60312 17.333 4 -75.38888 35.58959

FOMULATING TIME SERIES DATA FROM DATA FRAME
I am estimating Value at Risk using PerfomanceAnalytics package. The?variables are stored in a data frame. I formated the data variables using zoo() and as.xtx() but it is not working. The working example is below. ##########################################################? reguire(zoo) require(PerformanceAnalytics) reguire(xts) ? year<- c(1991-12-30, 1992-12-30, 1993-12-30, 1994-12-30) R1

Indexing Grouped Data
I need help in indexing grouped data. In this excample (df1 data), the first child had a first immunization at age 2. The second child had the first, second and third immunization at age 5,10, and 12, the third child had first and second immunization at age 4 and 6 and the fourth child had the first immunization at age 2. I have df1 and I need to create df2 with and "ind' variable that

I'm having some trouble using the latticeExtra 'combineLimits' function with a Date x-variable: require(lattice) set.seed(12345) dates <- seq(as.Date("2011-01-01"), as.Date("2011-12-31"), "days") dat <- data.frame(d = rep(dates, 4), g = factor(rep(rep(c(1,2), each = length(dates)), 2)), h =

how to image.plot a XY grid file into a lat-lon map
Hi All, I have a netcdf gridded file with LCC projection. I can easily use image.plot to visualize it. However, as the axises are in X,Y, not Lat and Lon, I could not add state or country maps onto it (or lat lon information). I do have a grid2d file that describes the lat and lon for each (X,Y) grid, but the lat and lon are not regularly spaced, so I could not use image.plot. Does anyone know

[lattice] how to overlay a geographical map on a levelplot?
r-help lattice adepts: I have a question which is somewhat geospatial, so I posted to r-sig-geo rather than here: https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-sig-geo/2012-November/016757.html > summary: How to overlay a geographical map on each panel in a lattice > (or Trellis), e.g., of levelplot's? How to average values from grid cells with coordinates
Hi lily, It's not too hard to do it using dataframes. Getting the indexing right is usually that hardest part: # these values are the centers of the black cells lat<-rep(28:38,11) lon<-rep(98:108,each=11) pop<-sample(80:200,121) # just use the data.frame function blackcells<-data.frame(lat=lat,lon=lon,pop=pop) plot(0,type="n",xlim=c(97.5,108.5),ylim=c(27.5,38.5),

R matching lat/lon pairs from two datasets?
Hello, I am trying to match lat/lon from one dataset with the lat/lon from a second dataset and use that rows data for calculations. I am using match, but this is finding the first match and not comparing the pair, how can I determine if the lat/lon are the same? See example below. Is there a better way to determine to a matching pair of lat/lon values? Example Datasets: > data2

NetCDF output in R
Dear CSAG R users, I will be glad if someone can point out what I am doing wrong or not doing at all in this. I am trying to write out netcdf file in R. I have 26 time step but only the first time step is written. For example: >library(ncdf) >path <- '/home/work/' >forecast <- open.ncdf(paste(path,'cam.1980.2005.nc',sep="")) > fore <-

How to average values from grid cells with coordinates
Hi R users, I have a question about data processing. I have such a dataset, while each black grid cell has a few attributes and the corresponding attribute values. The latitude and longitude of the center of each grid cell are given also. Then I want to average the attribute values from four adjacent grid cells to get the average value for the center of each red grid cell. Thus, there are the

Convert char vector to numeric table
I'm a great fan of read.table(), but this time the data had a lot of cruft. So I used readLines() and editted the char vector to eventually get something like this: " 23.4 1.5 4.2" " 19.1 2.2 4.1" and so on. To get that into a 3 col numeric table, I first just used: writeLines(data,"tempfile")

convergence problem gamm / lme
Hope one of you could help with the following question/problem: We would like to explain the spatial distribution of juvenile fish. We have 2135 records, from 75 vessels (code_tripnr) and 7 to 39 observations for each vessel, hence the random effect for code_tripnr. The offset (‘offsetter’) accounts for the haul duration and sub sampling factor. There are no extreme outliers in lat/lon. The model

lattice 3x3 plot: force common y-limits accross rows and align x-axes
Good afternoon, I would like to ask for help in controlling y-axis limits and labels in lattice doplots. Unfortunately, the problem is somewhat convoluted, please bear with the long explanation. I would like to create a 3x3 lattice of dotplots, say subject ~ count. The plot is conditioned on variables treatment and risk: subject ~ count | treatment + risk. In the experiment, not all subjects
