Failover DC did not work when Main DC failed
My reverse zones have PTR records. Though I don't have NS records for all of my DC's. I guess that needs to be manually created. Also, you don't have any CNAMES or domain overrides pointing to a single DC? Perhaps Bind is pointing to another internal DNS server, and then to a public DNS? ---- Here's a way to test failover from a Windows client: You can switch logon servers

Hey Gang, I'm stuck near the end of installing Samba 4 on a Debian Wheezy machine. I'm trying to connect to a Win2k AD. Basically I can't get "getent passwd" to show domain accounts. I also can't access shares using my credentials. What did I forget?! Here is what works: sudo net ads join -U "DOMAINADMIN" wbinfo -g //shows domain groups! wbinfo -u

Changing password server to win 2012
Hi list, My goal is to share a few shares from a solaris 9 host with a new win2012 domain. Im rather new to solaris (some years of linux exp, but samba has been a LONG time ago) The solaris machine has been created as a machine account in AD under its hostname by the windows admins in the new win2012 domain. (Thats not me, although I have domain admin access if need be) I have an issue changing

Samba4: error in schema?
Hi There seems to be a discrepancy in the s4 schema concerning security groups. Domain Users comes with gidNumber: 100. This is however contrary to what the schema allows. You can show this as follows: Create a new group. samba-tool group add mygroup. Use phpldapadmin to add the gidNumber attribute. There is an error because gidNumber is provided by the posixGroup class and that objectclass is

net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=504 net: ../../../libraries/liblber/decode.c:644: ber_scanf: Assertion `((ber)->ber_opts.lbo_valid==0x2)' failed. I was told this may be specific to ldap setup with samba 3.0.0, but is fixed in later versions of samba. however, in 3.0.1, there is a far worse bug that makes machines only available some of the time(i was told

Documentation
I just installed Red Hat v. 6.2 and would like to configure SAMBA. I was wondering if you could point me to some good documentation sites that can lead me step by step through setup and configuration of SAMBA. I'll be experimenting with it in the meantime but your help will be extremely helpfull. Thank you, Jerry Lawson MCSE, MCP +Internet
