configure.in reorder patch
Feb 12 CVS (sort of, see warning below)
I've had to change around some of the code in configure.in
to get some platforms to compile with the --with-tcp-wrappers option.
Basicly I have set it up to
check headers
check system libraries
check for optional packages
check functions
I have also tried to clean up the library order as it is important
on some platforms.
This patch works on
Solaris

Patch for 2.5.1 on Tru64 UNIX 5.x
Tru64 UNIX has getaddrinfo but not by that name. Including <netdb.h>
#defines getaddrinfo to ogetaddrinfo or ngetaddrinfo which exists in
/usr/shlib/libc.so. So, AC_CHECK_FUNC(getaddrinfo) isn't enough to
test for getaddrinfo. Best to AC_TRY_LINK so the #define takes effect.

configure.in fixes for 2.9.9p2
configure.in patches for 2.9.9p2:
1. Allow --with-pcre to take a path specifying the root of the
PCRE install (ROOT/include, ROOT/lib)
2. Ditto for --with-zlib
3. $no_libnsl and $no_libsocket can be determined programmatically
4. Check for innetgr, getspnam, and util in the default $LIBS before
checking in -lrpc, -lgen, and -lutil, respectively
5. dirname() is in -lgen on some

Rsync 2.5.5: FreeBSD mknod can't create FIFO's
The following patch (adapted to rsync 2.5.5 from the one posted in
Dec. 2000, http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/rsync/2000-December/003349.html)
is necessary to prevent rsync from failing on creating FIFOs or UNIX
sockets on FreeBSD. Any chance for it to be integrated in a future
release of rsync?
Thomas.

1.3.3: powerpc portability problems
The PowerPC-related changes in FLAC 1.3.3 have caused some portability
problems.
libFLAC/cpu.c assumes that the <sys/auxv.h> header and the getauxval()
function are universally available on PowerPC platforms. They are not.
On FreeBSD/powerpc, <sys/auxv.h> is available, but getauxval() is
not. Equivalent functionality is provided by elf_aux_info().
On OpenBSD/powerpc, neither is

--enable-R-shlib and external BLAS/LAPACK libraries
A couple of years ago (in 2008, using R 2.7.x, I believe) I noted that
using the configure switch --enable-R-shlib when buildig R made
configure ignore any specified external LAPACK library and use the
internal one insted. I asked why, and was told it was intentional.
Now, with R 2.15.1, I see that it at least appears that this is no
longer the case. I've run configure like this:

QA testing on other platforms.

libvorbis: NO_FLOAT_MATH_LIB patch
This is in response to NO_FLOAT_MATH_LIB not getting set on Solaris.
The patchlet below
- makes configure check for sqrtf(),
- defines HAVE_SQRTF if sqrtf() has been found,
- uses HAVE_SQRTF in lib/os.h.
NO_FLOAT_MATH_LIB isn't used any longer.

rsync ported to BeOS-bone
Hello, here is a preliminary patch allowing rsync 2.5.6
to compile in BeOS (using the new BONE networking stack).
Some explanations:
- BeOS doesn't have chroot(),
- the BONE networking stack export legacy network function
for old apps in libnet.so (linked to by default), so it's
necessary to force linking to the new libraries for things
to work. I've yet to get inet_ntop() to be
