Printer Admin Difficulties
I have been trying to setup a new print server on Fedora 12 based around samba-3.4.7-58.fc12.x86_64 and cups-1.4.2-28.fc12.x86_64. All looks good except for the ability for printer administrators to manage printers. Whether I specify users in a system group using the deprecated printer admin option, or specifically using net rpc rights and the SePrinterOperatorPrivilege, it does not matter.

More checks for param/loadparm.c
Here's a second set of diffs for sanity-checking smb.conf files. This one implements a basic set of checks on netbios names. No, it won't recognize someone using an ip address, but it will realize the dots don't belong: $ testparm Load smb config files from /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf WARNING: netbios name "127.0.0.1" contained a dot, which is only legal in DNS domain

Unable to access printers
Hi All, Since updating a from 3.0.1-2 to 3.0.2-1 a few weeks back I've been unable to print. I checked all the obvios settings, but as they had been working perfectly for some time prior was not surprised to find the configuration was correct. The authentication is configured via winbind to a 2000 ADS PDC. security = DOMAIN I've since updated again to 3.0.2-2 and found the issue

printernames vs. sharenames
Hello, when I assign a printer driver to a printer from a windows client, the printername now changes to the drivername. Yes, I can see the SPOOLSS_SETPRINTER call with the printername property, but that's definitly not what I want (or would expect). E.g. when I change the drivers of 3 printers to HP Laserjet, I get 3 printers with the names "HP Laserjet [(Copy 1|2)]". These

job fails to print via samba 2.2.6-pre1 - lpd ASCII a nd postscript test works fine...
Ah, it appears that I have confused myself... I indeed have ALL of the queues defined as JetDirect with the model specific driver selected in printconf. With this combination I am telling linux to modify the job [via the filter] and then pass it as a RAW [jetdirect] where I SHOULD just have the queue define as JetDirect with a RAW as the driver and let the job go as transmitted by the client

Samba 2.2.4 make fails on Solaris 8 (Ultra Sparc III) using Sun Forte 6-update 2 compilers
Hi, two weeks before, i had the same warnings, but no fatal errors and i got the following answer von Gerald Carter: > These are const warnings. Ignore them for now. > (not that we don't care about them, but you should be ok). Your compiler wants to compile nsswitch/wb_common.c with -Kpic. On Solaris it has to be compiled with the option -fPic. Normaly the make-script looks for the

request for documentation improvement
Dear Samba-Team. First, I don't know if this is the right place for my request. If a bug report is more suitable, I can file one. My request is interconnected with CUPS, but I was told to ask you instead as - CUPS avoids to document software-specific stuff, because there are too many changes in the programs interconnected with CUPS to keep up with and the SMB backend is - as a part of Samba

patch to configure.in for Solaris/gcc (-KPIC vs. -fPIC)
To Solaris admins.... Here's a patch for 2.2.4 for building on Solaris using GCC. You'll need to rerun autoconf after applying.... The second patch removes compiler warnings about redefinitions of ZERO_STRUCT. Now winbind should compile on solaris quietly. cheers, jerry --------------------------------------------------------------------- Hewlett-Packard

patche for samba-2.0.7/source/smbd/conn.c
Dear all, I have made patch for samba-2.0.7/source/smbd/conn.c This will, instead of using by-directional link, use array for managing connections. # The patch does seems to work on my RHL6.1Ja(fixed) version of # Linux machine. I don't know about other OS/Architecture. This should work better then original because: 1) The original code used bitmap.c for looking empty area. But using

print directly on another computer's LPT
how do i print directly to another computer's LPT port? printing via GDI is no problem. i have application that must print directly to LPT ports on several computers. on local printer, there's no problem, but i can't access LPT port on another computer. in windows, i could simply map it to LPT2, and use the LPT2 "net use LPT2: \\servername\printername" or in my

Samba 3RC4 printing issues
Hi Couple of printing issues that I can't get around. Probably relevant conf sections at bottom. Minor one first: In the Add Printer Wizard (the place most users look first), the Samba print server is not listed. Manually typing the \\server\printer works fine, but this is "difficult" for users adding printers on the fly. Adding the printer from \\server\printers works fine too,

skip chunk if "DRS linked attribute for GUID - DN not found"
Hello everyone, i try to use Samba RODC(4.6.5) with W2K8R2. Windows AD has around 35000 objects. My Samba machine is small one (ARM 32bit CPU) with only 2GB physical memory, so i can’t join to the domain because of expensive memory usage. To solve this Problem, i decide to replicate only critical objects and then let samba_kcc to get other objects. 1 ) Is this an possible way to use Samba AD or

<printername>.tdb error management...
Sometimes (rarely, very rarely) i spot a <printername>.tdb error that seems to prevent the communication between samba and CUPS. cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
Hello all, I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use. I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot find the PPD file... where is
