late or replayed packet warning
I get a lot of these in my log, especially when I am moving lots of traffic across the vpn: Sep 20 10:45:11 titan tinc.tdvpns[16152]: Got late or replayed packet from holden (xx.yy.zz.ww port 655), seqno 37609, last received 37610 (sequence numbers displayed generally differ by only one) What exactly is this trying to say? Surely this doesn't simply mean that the udp packets arrived in a

tinc 1.1pre. How to automatically start vpn tunnels? How to change the installation/config path to the same as tinc 1.0.x version from ubuntu repository?
Hi! I have compiled and installed tinc 1.1pre5 on a ubuntu machine. With the tinc 1.0.x version that is included in the ubuntu repository I am used to having the config files in /etc/tinc/ and where each vpn has a own directory. The file nets.boot placed in /etc/tinc where I can specify which vpn tunnels that is going to start automatically. How can I get the vpn tunnels to start automatically

weighted symmetric estimator
Dear R users, Has anyone implemented the weighted symmetric estimator, as inaugurated by Park,H. J. and Fuller,W. A,"Alternative estimators and unit root tests for the autoregressive process"? Is there a package that supports such estimation? Any idea how to perform it it R? Regards, Martin Ivanov ----------------------------------------------------------------- ?????? ??? - ??

random number generation from a-/symmetric distribution
Hi list, are there any functions or ideas to compute random numbers with a specific population mean and standard deviation from symmetric (but not normal) and asymmetric distributions? My first idea was to use e.g. rf() (and other R-functions for random number generation) and then scale the random numbers (for example: mean 300 and standard deviation 40), but I don't know if I'm wrong...

Invert a positive definite symmetric Block Toeplitz Matrix
Is there a function in r that let's you efficiently invert a positive definite symmetric Block Toeplitz matrix? My matrices are the covariance matrices of observations of a multivariate time series and can be 1000*1000 or larger. I know the package 'ltsa' which seems to use the Trench algorithm to compute the inverse of a Toeplitz matrix. I am looking for a so to say

eigen-decomposition of symmetric BCCB matrices
Hi, Can anyone please point to how to decompose BCCB (Block-Circulant-Circulant-Block) matrices? I am interested in the derivations: I do know that this can be numerically done using 2-dimensional FFTs. Many thanks and best wishes!

symmetric dotplot? (Wilkinson 1999, Am Stat 53 (3) 276-281
DeaR all, The stripchart function (graphics) is provides jittered and stacked univariate scatterplots, but I wonder if anyone has implemented a *symmetric* version of this - as in the lower panel of Wilkinson's paper: http://www.jstor.org/stable/2686111 I have looked through several functions in contributed packages that do similar things, but not found one that can do this. What am I

heatmap not symmetric ?
Dear list, I hope it is not a FAQ, but I searched the archives and Google, and found nothing. The question is simple : I do not understand why, starting from a symmetrical correlation matrix, heatmap produces an asymmetrical image. Can someone confirm that the EISPACK routines for eigenvalues of symmetric matrix are in base R. They seem to be, but I can't seem to locate where they are in the src tree. Thanks. function to calculate a SMAPE (Symmetric mean absolute percentage error) to avoid the possibility of an inflation caused by zero values in the series
Dear Reseacher, i find this modified version of SMAPE at pag 13 formula "msSMAPE" to to avoid the possibility of an inflation caused by zero values in the series using a Si component in the denominator of the symmetric MAPE http://www.stat.iastate.edu/preprint/articles/2004-10.pdf I wrote a function but I wish eventually correct error, change or improve with your suggestions. SIP and symmetric NAT
Hello, I have a problem with a Grandstream being behind a symmetric nat. The box which does the nat is a german "Fritz Box". This one does nat for the internal network. In the internal network is a Granstream BudgeTone 100. The nat router has a dial-up connection, so ip changes on every dial-in. |------------| |------------| |--------| |Grandstream

Symmetric matrix
I have following matrix : a = matrix(rnorm(36), 6) Now I want to replace the lower-triangular elements with it's upper-triangular elements. That is I want to make a symmetric matrix from a. I have tried with lower.tri() and upper.tri() function, but got desired result. Can anyone please tell me how to do that?

Flattening and unflattening symmetric matrices
Here's an easy question: I'd like to convert a symmetric matrix to a vector composed of the upper.tri() part of it plus the diagonal, and convert it back again. What's the best way to achieve this? I'm wondering if there are some built in functions to do this easily. I can encode fine: v <- c(diag(A),A[upper.tri(A)]) but I don't see an easy way to recover A from v

is this matrix symmetric
Hi, I have this symmetric matrix, at least I think so. col1 col2 col3 [1,] 0.20 0.05 0.06 [2,] 0.05 0.10 0.03 [3,] 0.06 0.03 0.08 or structure(c(0.2, 0.05, 0.06, 0.05, 0.1, 0.03, 0.06, 0.03, 0.08 ), .Dim = c(3L, 3L), .Dimnames = list(NULL, c("var1", "var2", "var3"))) But isSymmetric() doesn't agree. Any comment? I am on R 2.10.1 Thanks. Jun

Exponent of sqr symmetric matrix
Dear R experts, I really have difficulty when I try to deal with this question. suppose X is a square symmetric matrix. The exponent of X is defined by the matrix limit as following: exp(X) = lim (I + X/n)^n, note: the limit is from n to infinite. How can I write R function for the above? Thank you very much -- View this message in context:

splitting a square symmetric matrix
So many matrices are square symmetrical (i.e. variance-covariance matrices), is there any way to get R to split the matrix on its diagonal and just return one diagonal? So if I have mat<-matrix(c(1,4,3,4,1,2,3,2,1), nrow = 3, ncol=3, byrow=TRUE) is there anyway to get the lower right diagonal instead of the entire symmetric matrix? -------------------------------------------
