glm or transformation of the response?
Dear all, For an introductory course on glm?s I would like to create an example to show the difference between glm and transformation of the response. For this, I tried to create a dataset where the variance increases with the mean (as is the case in many ecological datasets): poissondata=data.frame( response=rpois(40,1:40), explanatory=1:40) attach(poissondata) However, I have run into

lme anova() and model simplification
I am running an lme model with the main effects of four fixed variables (3 continuous and one categorical – see below) and one random variable. The data describe the densities of a mite species – awsm – in relation to four variables: adh31 (temperature related), apsm (another plant feeding mite) awpm (a predatory mite), and orien (sampling location within plant – north or south). I have read

packages masking other objects
hello all, I am trying to use the function getCovariateFormula(nlme) in conjunction with the library lme4. When I load both packages I get the following message and the getCovariateFormula function no longer works: library(nlme) library(lme4) Attaching package 'lme4': The following object(s) are masked from package:nlme : contr.SAS getCovariateFormula

Error Message During ANOVA
Dear R-Help, I'm using an ANOVA to determine if there is any variation that exists between my four different shark-types and their entrance behavior towards an apparatus. To do this, my coding was: df1=read.table("lemonentrance.txt", header=TRUE); df1 c(t(as.matrix(df1))) r = c(t(as.matrix(df1))) # response data r

malloc: vm_allocate(size=381886464) failed (error code=3)
Hi all, I am having memory allocation problem with my R 2.2.1 for Mac OS. The following is the error message that I get. I do not get this message if I break down the large dataset in to sub datasets. I think breaking up the dataset is not a sustainable solution in the long run. The data that I am analysing is essentially big, and it would be reasonable to do the analyis on the whole dataset

Understanding linear contrasts in Anova using R
#I am trying to understand how R fits models for contrasts in a #simple one-way anova. This is an example, I am not stupid enough to want #to simultaneously apply all of these contrasts to real data. With a few #exceptions, the tests that I would compute by hand (or by other software) #will give the same t or F statistics. It is the contrast estimates that R produces #that I can't seem to

[S] Problems with lme and 2 levels of nesting:Summary
I have taken the liberty of including the R-help mailing list on this reply as that is the appropriate place to discuss lmer results. Predator Prey Models
Dear R-users, I am currently modifying a previously developed predator prey model and was curious if there was a way to add in a disturbance to the model (let's say at time t=100). The disturbance can be the introduction of 40 prey (N=40) and 10 predators (Pred = 10). I would like to see my model go from a state of equilibrium (up to t = 99), show this disturbance (at t = 100) and then

remove numbers from string of characters
Greetings I want to remove numbers from a string of characters that identify sites so that I can merge two data frames. For example, a site in one frame is called "001a Frozen Niagara Entrance" whereas the same site in the other data frame is called "Frozen Niagara Entrance". It seems to me the easiest thing to do would be to remove the numbers from the first data

dsync having problems with @-sign in mailbox names
Hi there We are running Cyrus-to-Dovecot migrations using dsync on destination Dovecot server (Debian Stretch / latest Dovecot 2.3.7.2 from community repo) like this: $ doveadm -o mail_fsync=never backup -R -u <username> imapc: For imapc configuration to connect to remote Cyrus server, see below [1]. While this works great for hundreds of mailaccounts, dsync fails with the following

[LLVMdev] TargetFrameInfo: what's local area offset
The TargetFrameInfo, amoung other things, specifies "local area offset" -- which, as comment say, is: the offset of the local area from the stack pointer on entrance to a function. The question is -- what's local area? Is this the first stack location which can be used by function for allocating its own variables? - Volodya

OT: Video Surveillance SW on CentOS
I suggested to our Homeowners Association that we begin a Private Forum (phpBB) and web site. That suggestion has been well received and we will proceed with that. Now, I have become involved in a much more complex and important project, which is Video Surveillance, for the entrance to our subdivision. I Googled and found two (2) things for Linux that seem to be OK: (a) ZoneMinder

dipura 2002 auto dial or intercom
Guys. Anybody using sipuras 2002 knows if there is a way to make the phones connected to it to autodial an extension when the phone is picked up? For example, if the phone is on a police booth (building entrance) and you want the guys to just pick up the phone and make the phone auto dial the receptionist extension without the guys having to dial anything (ala batphone). Is this possible with

Transfer to Fax - 123 - Vonage
Okay, my last post for the night. So, after tweaking my iptables rules I placed a test call from my * -> Vonage softphone account, to my Vonage main account (which uses the Motorola device). Once connected I tried punching a few DTMF's to check the quality and found I had been transferred to a fax machine. ???? Did I find a secret entrance to some fax machine at Vonage, or

UPS wiring question (electrical code)
In the US, our National Electrical Code requires (being a little fuzzy as this is just setup to ask my real question): grounding conductor (earthing conductor in UK, "green wire" in US) bonded from the main ground system (more or less at the entrance panel) to all exposed metal including case and ground bus of any subpanels a single bond from neutral ("grounded

Advanced conference features, meetme2?
Hi, I have been playing about with meetme as a conference bridge, and find it lacking in some features which I believe are out their somewhere. Viewing this wiki page http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+MeetMe2+Design it looks like a plan happened, but where is meetme2 at now? Things like recording a conference, allowing callers to adjust volume, allowing the conference to be locked, having

R 2.1.1 installation fails under Suse 10.0 (PR#8533)
Full_Name: Sigbert Klinke Version: 2.1.1 OS: Suse Linux 10.0 (Full DVD) Submission from: (NULL) (141.20.100.252) Suse 10.0 installs only a Fortran 95 compiler with g77 compability mode. Using this leads in "configure" to an abortion with problems about "FPICFLAGS". Deinstalling g77 compatiblity mode, using f2c, compiles R. But after calling R() the program shows its entrance

[LLVMdev] indirectbr/blockaddress question
In my llvm jit project I needed to lookup BB addresses at execution time and then jump to the corresponding BB. A C++ routine called at runtime from IR finds the right BB, gets its BlockAddress and returns it as an i8*. The IR does an indirectbr on this value... Well, not really. The routine returns the address of a BlockAddress node. Is there any way to get the real runtime code address for the
