R CMD build creates tar file instead of tar.gz file
Dear all, I'm trying to create my own package by following for instance http://epub.ub.uni-muenchen.de/6175/2/tr036.pdf In step 6 (page 19) it says that the command 'R CMD build <mypackage>' should result in a tar.gz file. However, after running the command I end up with a tar file only (no gz extension). I also get the following warnings in the command prompt C:\Program

instal tar.gz package on windows
Dear HelpeRs, I have created a tar.gz package (the package was created on unix) and I would like to install it in R on a Windows operating system. As far as I know, R in Windows accepts only packages in zip file for installation and I could not find a way to install a tar.gz file. I would like to mention that I  installed the package on unix using install.packages and it works. I also tried to

Compiling errors for Matrix_0.995-5.tar.gz under XP
I installed the MinGW-5.0.0 compilers today (gcc-3.4.2 is now contained in the 'Current' distribution. When the current compilers failed to compile the referenced Matrix update and not knowing how to check the exact version numbers for individual files, I applied the Id.exe and f771.exe fixes from the 'Building R for Windows' page (http://www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/#ldbug).

adapt package missing because of licensing issue: fix?
I think this is probably known by someone, but I wanted to ask/comment: The 'adapt' package has been removed from CRAN because of an 'unclear' license. That makes sense, but it actually took a bit of digging for me to discover that, and if I had been a student I might not have figured it out. The package is simply missing from the CRAN compiled packages page; I did find

Issues with TMPDIR/TEMP/TMP? Failure of R CMD check under Windows 7
Dear helpeRs, on my Windows 7 laptop, I have problems getting R CMD check to work. I believe it did work completely before, but I am not sure. Yesterday it almost worked, except for the tests: These were aborted because of a complaint that the temporary directory wasn't available. I played with windows environment variables for the temporary directory, but that didn't solve it.

Problems with building R from sources
Hello all, I'm trying to build R 32bit from source in a Windows 64 machine. I have followed the steps in "R Installation and Adiministration" ( http://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/R-admin.html#Getting-the-source-files) or at least I think I did everything described. I am not sure if I have installed the libjpeg, libtiff and libpng files though. I have upzipped them in the

ActiveState Perl, cygwin and R (was: cygwin tar?)
Hello! I have just read mails in thread <http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/devel/04a/0583.html> about problems with Cygwin and Rtools. I had the same problems and kept just the newest cygwin1.dll and things seem OK now. However I currently hit the problem with Perl (I have ActiveState and Cygwin Perl installed). When I tried to work with 'Rdconv' in Cygwin I get the following: $

Building package with R 2.6.0 on Windows/Cygwin gives error with tar
My setup: Windows XP, R-2.6.0, Cygwin (not the Rtools version) When I tried to build a package, I was given this message: tar: c\:/X/Rpkgs/Drydown_1.41.tar: Cannot open: Input/Output error Even manually typing the following caused the same error: tar chf 'c:/X/Rpkgs/Drydown_1.41.tar' Drydown I looked at the 2.5.1 and 2.6.0 build scripts. After restoring this section to the 2.6.0 build

cygwin and tar -- still?
I've upgraded laptops and have put a new version of R on the new machine as well as the tools for building packages. I know R has required a "non-broken" version of tar for some time now and was hoping to not have to install any cygwin tools. Since building packages requires the use of MinGW and MSYS, why can't we simply use the tar that's part of msys? After looking at

Can't install.packages() from local repo in 2.15.2
Hi guys I think there's a high chance this is a bug. But I can't rule out that I can be blamed for this. I've posted this to bugzilla (#15092). Then I read that I probably should have posted it to R-develop first. Sorry for doing this in the wrong order. I've set up a local repo on my local drive (happens to be mapped to L:/). It has the following structure (as per
