[RFC 0/2] Propose a new pointer trait.
Hi, I'm part of an engineering team doing research on persistent memory support and we have stumbled upon an interesting problem. The issue is, we would like to be able to use the standard library containers in a persistent memory context (think NVDIMM-N). What I mean is that you allocate a container from said memory, use it like you normally would. After the application terminates, expectedly

Boundaries of R
Hello Everyone, I'm pretty new to R and I'm trying to get some idea of the capabilities of the language. I work with some pretty large data sets and the consensus seems to be that R does not work well with big data. I've started talking to the guys at Revolution, but I need to get some outside opinions of what R can actually handle. At about what size does R start to run into

[LLVMdev] MS VS2010 std implementation: "Cannot assign iterators to two different blocks!"
Michael, Yes, while stepping through this VS2010 `std::swap` code, `_Move` did nothing, e.g. //////////////////////////////////////////////////// void swap(_Ty& _Left, _Ty& _Right) { // exchange values stored at _Left and _Right _Ty _Tmp = _Move(_Left); _Left = _Move(_Right); _Right = _Move(_Tmp); } //////////////////////////////////////////////////// was equivalent to:

Newbie question
I'm trying to find a good open source software to do sales forecasting using Holt Winters and Box Jenkins time series algorithm. Somebody pointed me that R is the best open source available for statistical computing. Are there functions to do Holt Winters and Box Jenkins time series prediction in R? If there is none, can some one point me a good GNU/freeware to do the sales forecasting using

Thread Problem.
I have been working on a game for a while now and noticed that using your library to stream music created a graphical problem while the screen would scroll. (certain tiles would flicker to be more specific). I found that if I don't play music this problem doesn't occur. Another developer suggested that if I can lower the priority (thread priority) of the music this could fix the problem.

Learning - Example programs
I'm working my way up the learning curve for R. A method of learning I find very effective is to work through an existing program. Are there any libraries or archives of R programs on the web ? If not, would this be a good idea for the R website ? I hope this is not a FAQ: I have checked as far as I can. Best Wishes, Martin Holt

I'm somewhat confused by the installation instructions. Do I install XEMACS or ESS first, please? Windows XP R Version 2.0.1 (S + 6.2) Thanks so much! reset par() within plot layout
Dear list, I would like to produce a matrix of plots, where par() is reset after each plot (see below [simplified] example). When I use layout() to do so, I seem to also reset the layout. I have not been able to figure out how to prevent this from happening. Any help is greatly appreciated! Janke Example code: #Desired result is a layout of 2 plots: one red and one black layout(matrix(1:2,
