fatal: cipher_init: EVP_CipherInit: set key failed for aes128-cbc [preauth]
Am I the only person to be seeing this log message from sshd: fatal: cipher_init: EVP_CipherInit: set key failed for aes128-cbc [preauth] ? (security/openssh-portable, with HPN patches and MIT Kerberos, although Kerberos is not actually configured on this server.) A work-around is to disable aes128-cbc in sshd_config, but it would be nice not to have my logs spammed with this. Currently

Allegations regarding OpenBSD IPSEC
Some of you probably already read this: http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-tech&m=129236621626462&w=2 Interesting...I wonder what is the impact of all this on FreeBSD code. We may very well suppose that any government or corporation funded code can theoretically have some kind of backdoor inside. --Andy

packets with syn/fin vs pf_norm.c
Hi, First of all, I know that not dropping SYN/FIN isn't really a big deal, it just makes no sense. But since it doesn't make any sense, I don't see the reason why not to discard them. I'm running pf on FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE-p3 and I scrub any traffic. I've read some other posts on google and as far as I can tell, clearly invalid packets (like packets with SYN/RST set) is

How to unstick ZFS resilver?
I have a large (88-drive) zpool in which a drive was recently replaced. (The pool has a bunch of duff Toshiba MK2001TRKB drives -- never ever pay money for these! -- and I'm trying to replace them one by one before they fail completely.) The resilver on the first drive replacement has been taking much much too long, and currently it's stuck in this state: pool: export state: DEGRADED

portupgrade(1) | portmaster(8) -- which is more effective for large upgrade?
Greetings, I haven't upgraded my tree(s) for awhile. My last attempt to rebuild after an updating src && ports, resulted in nearly installing the entire ports tree, which is why I've waited so long. Try as I might, I've had great difficulty finding something that will _only_ upgrade what I already have installed, _and_ respect the "options" used during the original

OpenBSM questions
Hello I have some issues with OpenBSM which i cannot resolve, so i decided to ask there. 1) I found some bugs in the auditreduce utility and created patch for it - http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=114534. Please, someone from freebsd team - take it, i think its better to fix this before next release. 2) I found that when i`m using XDM as login manager with OpenBSM, all my audit

possible compromise or just misreading logs
I am not sure if I had a compromise but I am not sure I wanted some other input. I noticed in this in my daily security run output: pc1 setuid diffs: 19c19 < 365635 -rwsr-xr-x 1 root wheel 204232 Sep 27 21:23:19 2003 /usr/X11R6/bin/xscreensaver --- > 365781 -rwsr-xr-x 1 root wheel 205320 Dec 4 07:55:59 2003 /usr/X11R6/bin/xscreensaver It was the only file listed and I didn't

powerd not behaving with an Asus A8V-MX and Athlon 64 X2 3800+
I have an Asus A8V-MX motherboard with an AMD Athlong 64 X2 3800+ CPU and I'm trying to run powerd to keep it cooler/quieter/greener. I'm running -STABLE (6.1-RC) cvsup'ed a couple of days ago, with a kernel config that consists of the SMP sample plus an atapicam device. I'm loading the cpufreq.ko module in /boot/loader.conf. I've attached my dmesg output and sysctl -a

Weird vmstat -s stats
On -STABLE as of Mon Jun 9 04:43:55 CEST 2003, "vmstat -s" shows on one of my boxes (uptime: 26 days): -1597015721 total name lookups cache hits (101% pos + 0% neg) system 0% per-directory deletions 0%, falsehits 0%, toolong 0% Weird. I'll have to cvsup again and hope this has been fixed :) -Regard, FH. -- Farid Hajji --

Monitoring IO -- vmstat doesn't match snmp
I made the mistake of looking at disk IO numbers in two different ways -- now I'm confused, because they give inconsistent answers. First way was using 'vmstat 10'. This gave me (apologies for wrapped lines): r b swpd free buff cache si so bi bo in cs us sy id wa st 2 0 2162944 4071928 162444 4218456 0 0 0 286 1103 528 3 2 95 0 0 1 0

Possible bug in POSIX classes for R 2.11.0?
To the R development team; I found an unusual behavior in zoo when I upgraded to R 2.11.0 - it abruptly terminated when I performed certain operations on large zoo objects. I sent an e-mail to Achim Zeileis and he said this was a potential bug that I should report to the R development team. The details are given below in the thread below. Basically, I can crash R with this code: library(zoo)

Adding OpenBSD sudo to the FreeBSD base system?
Aloha! (I've Googled around a bit, but failed to find much previous posts about this though I'm sure it has been discussed...) Have anybody (in core etc) considered adding a sudo implementation to thr FreeBSD base system. At least for me, sudo is an important part of implementing good security policy in FreeBSD. Yes, it is available as a port, but in a similar fashion of for example,

PhatBox and Music Keg unofficially support Vorbis
PhatBox and Music Keg (which I'd describe as MP3 players that hook into your car stereo) unofficially support Vorbis. Apparently there was a post to vorbis-dev quite a while ago about this, but it's news to me, and it hasn't been on this list. I'll add this to my hardware list, which I'll post here soon. This was a (very speedy :-)) response I got from PhatNoise's

[LLVMdev] Bug in Support/Allocator.h
Hi, llvm::BumpPtrAllocatorImpl::Reset() looks like it has a bug. There is this check at the top: if (Slabs.empty()) return; But what if you don't have any normal Slabs allocated but only CustomSizedSlabs. I think this should be: if (Slabs.empty() && CustomSizedSlabs.empty()) return;

Reinstalling boot blocks on a ZFS-only system
So, I've long known and it makes sense that when you're booted from a ZFS volume, you can't mess with the boot-loader. And, I know a few months ago I had a set of commands I would use when booted from a CD that would initialize the network and copy the "release/boot" from somewhere else so that I could install bootblocks and boot-loaders from more recent code. Sadly, I

Generación de números aleatorios. Mixtura k-puntos
