Replication Ok, or not?
Setup a DC using 4.0.3 - all appears to go fine...
Setup a second DC and everything works fine to here...but I'm not sure
if replication is actually working or not.
Here's what I get from ./samba-tool drs showrepl
I've also done. [./samba-tool drs kcc -Uadministrator
dc2.samba.somedom.local] in an attempt to fix the replication problem.
(or what I think is a problem.)

smb.conf for Windows clients
So, I'm trying to paw through the long set of smb.conf options - and
it's rather daunting.
I'm wondering what smb.conf options are most
important/appropriate/common for mostly Windows XP/7/(possibly v8) clients.
TIA

AD Member Server and 'vfs objects recycle' permission problems
Hi,
on our samba 4 domain member server we use the vfs objects module
'recycle'.
Unfortunately we ran into a strange permission problem with deleted
folders.
The newly created folders in the recycle folder have the wrong
permission. The deleted file(s) itself has the correct group (rw)
permissions.
The shares correct permissions:

idmap backend ad well-known-sids 512 & 513
Hi,
we are in the process of testing a migration from our NT Classic Domain
with OpenLdap to Samba AD.
In our test setup migration of all accounts, groups and computer
accounts went well using the classicupgrade path.
Next step now is testing how to add a member server for file server
services.
We were able to get the server to join the domain and also idmapping
works mostly as expected.

Floating IP breaks AD replication
Maybe this is a stupid idea, but what we are doing here is using just the
domain name for all sorts of services, i.e. LDAP.
So instead of pointing a client to dc1.somedom.contoso.com or
dc2.somedom.contoso.com, we point them to somedom.contoso.com which is then
resolved to both and the client can pick.
Best regards

Upgrading Samba in a Multi DC environment
Hi all,
I currently have 5 DC's all running 4.1.5 and would like to upgrade them to
4.1.11.
Should I upgrade the FSMO DC first and then the others or perhaps the other
way around?
Can anyone see any pitfalls here?
Also, should I just:
1. stop samba
2. ./conffigure && make && make install
3. restart samba
?
I am also planning on switching to BIND_DLZ (currently running

Problem to demote Samba4 DC
Hello,
I recently migrated our samba 3 domain to an AD domain using Samba 4
classic upgrade tool.
DNS is provided by the internal dns server of Samba 4.
I promoted a Windows 2k8 box as a new DC of this domain and I transfer
all the 5 FSMO roles to this windows box.
Now I would like to demote the Samba4 DC but when I tried I got this
message :
# samba-tool domain demote

Samba4 classic upgrade problem
Hello.
I'm trying to perform a classic upgrade from Samba 3.6.6 with LDAP

The samba-tools creates the following *smb.con*f:

realm = somedom.local
netbios name = SOMEDOM

DC disaster recovery
So, I'm generally running my DC's in VM's on Xen [XCP-NG].
And I'm considering recovery from different disaster situations - say a crashed/corrupt DC. Or hardware failure.
Yes, I could run a second VM with a second DC. But unless I setup another XCP server and put the VM on that - the biggest threat to the current VM/DC is the hardware it's running on. So, it really

Strange issue with share access on domain controllers
Hi list,
I've a strange issue with Windows 7 (also occurs on 8.1) when accessing
shares on domain controllers. If I use IP address or in-domain FQDN
(server.domain.name), all is right. If I use another DNS entry pointing
to the same IP, share access fails with following message (translated
from french) :
\\somehost.somsuffix\someshare is not accessible. […] Invalid parameter

Strange issue with share access on domain controllers
Hi,
No change
According to netbios aliases documentation, it only modify NETBIOS
announce, but I'm using DNS to access the host (and it is correctly
resolved since smbclient access works, shares list works on windows)

Upgrade DC 4.5 -> 4.8, timings?
Hai Marco.
Just upgrade it. ;-)
It's not needed to move FSMO roles, in the last 4 years of upgradeing..
I did that exactly... 0 times.
Steps shown work fine. ;-)

Dovecot vs MBox
I'm still in the "what's wrong" stage of figuring out what's going on.
But I've got a mail user who isn't getting new messages.
Postfix accepts it and drops it in the users mbox. [This is verified.
If I tail the Mbox, I can see the new messages.]
"Mail" will see the messages too.
But dovecot doesn't seem to know they exist. I don't think the MBox

Namespace problem? duplicated folders...
I'm sure this is related to name-spaces, but for some reason [brain damage perhaps? :) ] I can't seem to figure out how to fix it.
In TBird, for example, I have a folder tree that looks like this
Inbox -|
Folder-A
Folder-B
Folder-C
Folder-A
Folder-B

And Folder-A, Folder-B, Folder-C are the same folders, just shown twice. [In two different hierarchies.]

AD: smb.conf of newly joined DC
Hi all,
When provisionning a Samba 4 AD domain with --use-rfc2307 the option
"idmap_ldb:use rfc2307 = yes" is added to our first DC's smb.conf.
When joining a Samba4 to a domain to make it a DC we can't
use --use-rfc2307 and "idmap_ldb:use rfc2307 = yes" is not automatically
added to newly joined DC's smb.conf.
Question 1: is this option useless on non-FSMO DC?
