Purge Trash Fileserver
Thanks for the answer. The problem that this way is pretty much the same as my find. I want you to be able to delete the file based on the date they were sent to the bin. As I gave in the example: The file has not been changed since 2015, when it is deleted now in 2017, it goes to the bin, dated 2015, when the find pass will erase, why it does not validate when it has been deleted, but the

Purge Trash Fileserver
Hello My fileserver is a samba 4.5.4, in Ubuntu 14.04, is all ok. My question is, Have the recycle bin enabled, and would like a way to rotate the files, already have something today that is via find Find /mnt/samba -depth -mtime +30 -print -delete This works however, it will delete the files inside the destination with more than 30 days, but this more than 30 days is not when it went to

Centos 7 tmpwatch
I have noticed that tmpwatch isn't automatically installed with Centos 7, or at least it wasn't when I set up this computer. I further noticed that the Centos 7 tmpwatch rpm no longer includes /etc/cron.daily/tmpwatch I suspect that at least part of the reason for this is because the /tmp directory is now mounted as a tmpfs by default, so it's automatically cleared when the machine

Missing CentOS 4.7 update?
Unless I'm mistaken, does it look like Centos 4.7 is missing an update released on December 3rd 2008? Upstream details :- http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2008-0989.html An updated tmpwatch package that fixes various bugs is now available. The tmpwatch utility recursively searches through specified directories and removes files which have not been accessed in a specified period of time.

EL8: SElinux / dac_override / tmpwatch
Hi, I'm moving some old stuff from EL6 to EL8 and one setup has a cron job which uses "tmpwatch -umc $dir" to clean some directories (/etc/cron.daily/tmpwatch). It seems that this triggers this AVC (SElinux mode is enforcing): type=AVC msg=audit(1598576896.772:4267): avc: denied { dac_override } for pid=11013 comm="tmpwatch" capability=1

Allow ipconfig to bring down interfaces
Hi, Attached and on the "ipconfig_down" branch at github (https://github.com/kpinc/klibc.git) you will find 4 patches which let ipconfig bring down interfaces. Please consider them for inclusion. Why do this? It's useful when the rootfs is crypted and is unlocked by supplying passwords over the network. In this case the initramfs brings up a network interface. It can be useful

file "time-to-live"
Hi everyone, There is a way to make files being automatically deleted some time after they have been created? I know that, with some scripting wizardry i could achieve this, but i wanna know if samba has this kind of feature. I have a temp folder that users insist in use like a backup folder, so i want to files to be deleted 24 hours after they have been created. I cannot just delete

I would rather the maintainers would spend their time improving the application, and not worrying aobut the OP's hurt little open-sourced religious feelings. I use rsync to transfer pretty massive (wait for it) ADOBE PHOTOSHOP files around my LAN. Neener neener fucken neener. On Wed, Jul 27, 2016 at 11:37 AM, Karl O. Dump on remote filesystems?
I have a couple C5 systems I want to back up. My plan is to, one way or another, back them up to a C5 machine in my office. I have samba installed on the systems to back up, the machines are mounted on the system in my office, and a tape library hanging of the system in my office. I was hoping to perform a simple /sbin/dump of the remote systems. I put together a script for another

vanilla rsync 3.0.9 hangs after transferring ~2000 files
Hello rsync folks I'm trying to use rsync for backing up our servers. This mostly works extremely well, with no problems. However, 1 server is giving me a lot of trouble. It has a directory with (currently) 734088 files in it, and every time I try to backup this dir, rsync hangs after transferring roughly 2000 files. Sometimes it's around 1800, sometimes it's over 2100 (I think), but

Hi, I've found this in the man page for rsync: "To backup my wife’s home directory, which consists of large MS Word files and mail folders, I use a cron job that runs ...". I believe it's very inappropriate and inconsiderate to mention Microsoft products unless it's really necessary. I'm mostly concerned with the fact that this careless usage not only gives them more

Action on phone pickup
How do I get asterisk to do something when I pick up a phone? For instance, I've got a regular pots phone hooked up to a zaptel interface, and I want it to vocalize "hello" when I pick up the phone and then give me a dial tone, wait for digits, make a call, etc. I tried the 's' extension in extensions.conf and setting 'immediate' to "yes' in zapata.conf and

Is --sparse suitable for general purpose use?
Hi, I'm using rsync with --link-dest to do backups. I don't have any sparse files, but someday I might. Should I be using --sparse? I notice that -S is not implied by -a. This makes me suspicious that --sparse is not (yet?) suitable for general purpose use. There also seem to be outstanding bugs related to --sparse. Thanks. Karl <kop at meme.com> Free Software: "You

Bug in fts (solr?, Maildir?) incorrect last_indexed_uid
Hi, I thought I should document this. (Dovecot 2.2.9, see config at bottom.) I installed dovecot and then converted a number of mbox mailboxes to Maildir, and had a number of pre-existing Maildir mailboxes. I then installed the debian (wheezy) fts-solar and jetty packages, and tested my inbox using the "telnet localhost imap ... 3 SEARCH text "test" method as described on the
