Hessian Matrix Issue
Dear All, I am running a simulation to obtain coverage probability of Wald type confidence intervals for my parameter d in a function of two parameters (mu,d). I am optimizing it using "optim" method "L-BFGS-B" to obtain MLE. As, I want to invert the Hessian matrix to get Standard errors of the two parameter estimates. However, my Hessian matrix at times becomes

Use Of makeARIMA
Hi R-Experts, Currently I'm using an univariate time series in which I'm going to apply KalmanLike(),KalmanForecast (),KalmanSmooth(), KalmanRun(). For I use it before makeARIMA () but I don't understand and i don't know to include the seasonal coefficients. Can anyone help me citing a suitable example? Thanks in advance. ------------------------------------------

Macintosh binaries; was: Rcmdr and Macintosh
I am a Windows user and trying to make life easier for my Mac-using students. After investigating the Mac situation more, it appears that the key to easy use is having precompiled binaries. However the packages I am interested in (Rcmdr and its required package, car) do not have one. I do not have easy access to a Mac, so I have a plea to Macintosh users: could someone please create them if it is

Help In Sequence of Dates
Dear R-users, First of all, I'm sorry if this is a simple question. I want a daily date series which will be a sequence. E.g. starting from 07/03/1962 to 12/03/1997. Thanks in advance. I want to paste this date series with the data series I have. Thanks & Regards, Sumanta Basak.

Hello!
Hi, I'm a student studing for Math. & Infor. Ing. in Tirana,Albania and a have a final project in R to finish in a week, so I badly need your help... The topic of the project is "Hermite Interpolation" and a I have allready done a script that finds the approximation in a certan point x, H(x) ~f(x) but i want to find the value of his derivative H'(x)~f'(x) as well and to

obscure error with subsetting as.list() of a function then assigning that a (PR#9500)
Hello. I was writing some code that computes on the language and came across this. I can work around it, but thought you might like to know about it. > f <- function(x) { NULL } > a <- as.list(f)[[1]] > a # ie print(a) Error: argument "a" is missing, with no default Note it says *argument* "a", which is strange. In fact, and unsurprisingly, the bug lies with

scatterplot3d: how to show scatterpoints in 2D-space with color as 3rd dimension?
Dear Colleagues: I have 3 numeric variables (say x, y, z) in a data.frame and want to draw a 2D-scatterplot with the 3rd dimension as color, if possible without having to convert the whole thing to an appropiate matrix for image() manually. Can e.g. scatterplot3d do something like this? There's a function xyz.convert, but I couldn't find the way to use it properly. Sincerly,

Help
Hi R-Users, I apologize if it is too simple question for all. I have a multivariate dataset having 7 variables as independent and 1 dependent variable. 248 data points are there. I want to do out sample forecast first considering 156 points. So I'll have to start from 157th point and calculate the 157th y_hat value. In this way it will go to 248th data point. Can any one tell me how I can

AID / Tree Analysis in R
Dear Colleagues, I've been looking for a function that can perform a tree analysis, similar to CHAID or QUEST. The key point is that in this case the variables are not binary but nominal (10 different values), so "tree" (from the tree package) won't work. Does anybody know help? cluster analysis: "error in vector("double", length): given vector size is too big {Fehler in vector("double", length) : angegebene Vektorgröße ist zu groß}
Dear R Specialists, when trying to cluster a data.frame with about 80.000 rows and 25 columns I get the above error message. I tried hclust (using dist), agnes (entering the data.frame directly) and pam (entering the data.frame directly). What I actually do not want to do is generate a random sample from the data. bug: sticky symbol refs? (PR#9555)
Hello. What happens in the following is that I create two simple functions, f and g, on the workspace. Then I replace g. When I then call f, it uses the old version of g. Now clearly, the circumstances for this to happen must be quite special and rare. But I'd say they're not pathological. It seems to require two things: 1) masked versions of f and g on a search position lower down the
