Samba creating multiple isntances of the deamon
(2005.10.10, 14:25) I am running Samba 3.0.14a-2 on Fedora 4. I have no problem seeing the Linux file system from any of the Windows (2000, SP4) computers attached to the network. The problem is that smbd processes are created for no apparent reason and never die. I noticed this when the computer had been up for about three days and there were some 600 active smbd processes! What could be the

my mistake compiling kernel
Dear FreeBSD! On my home machine I`ve tried to compile custom kernel for 5_0 release. In a script commented out all scsi, raid, ethernet, nfs options, I had not. So I`ve included atapicam options and "device pcm" for AC97 sound chip. After all, result was an error: linking kernel if.o: In function 'if_setlladdr': if.o(.text+0x2725): undefined reference to 'arp_ifinit'

9.1 file content
I'm quite happy to see 9.1 out and want to ask polite and benevolent question: regarding times on the site, are iso and img files the same as 2 weeks ago? To remind noble readers. I installed on my computers what was release at that time and got it up and working perfectly. In other words, is it the same file? Best regards and happy new year Zoran

ipfw2 logging
Dear list! I have a little problem, trying to enable logging of deny rule. I have enabled it via kernel: options IPFIREWALL options IPFIREWALL_VERBOSE options IPFIREWALL_VERBOSE_LIMIT=3 It is ipfw2. After that, my inten- tion was to use syslogd and !ipfw *.* /var/log/ipfw.log and newsyslog with /var/log/ipfw.log 600 3 100 * J In rc.conf I have firewall_enable="YES"

agp in kernel
After several years I replaced desktop and laptop and wait for release to start fresh. On desktop I put nvidia gt520. Forums say nvidia prop driver dislikes agp op- tion in kernel and recommend removing it. Laptop is sandy bridge with hd3000 integrated. Would I trigger something if I delete agp from conf file in both cases? Another issue bothers me also. RC version of amdtemp failed to read

nmap not scanning networks?
Hello! Attempt to scan a network with any method except plain ping results in an error: truss nmap -sT -p 21 '172.19.17.*' [...] sendto(0x4,0x8094200,0,0x0,{ AF_INET 172.19.17.0:0 },0x10) ERR#49 'Can't assign requested address' [...] What's strange that man on send(2) doesn't state that EADDRNOTAVAIL can ever be returned from sendto(). Quick look at nmap's site

mail without mta
Dear list! I'd like to know if some- one has experience with system running no mta (aka sendmail). I have single comp, not server, not lan. Yes! Sendmail is nice, but it is too big for simple tasks I have for it. My intention is to use apps small as possible. This letter gone from mutt directly to ssmtp, that processed it to my isp. tripwire port broken?
Dear list! I've tried to compile tripwire-2.3.1-2 port on my 5.2 release. Two diffe- rent tarballs have failed with message, that port was broken, all in one sentence. No any details. Well! Makefile has so- mething like: .if ${OSVERSION} >= 500000 BROKEN= "Fails to build inder 5.X" .endif One more: USE_GMAKE= yes Has someone compiled it successfully? Is it for a good

abyoos.a
Dear folks! Using f-prot, I've found "unix/abyoos.a" in one pure ascii file. Simple googling didn't reveal any special info about. Is it something I should be aware of? What parts of it could I find on the system, if any? Best regards Zoran

ports binary upgrade question for 9.2
Due to trip to make, I will have to wait few days to upgrade my nodes to 9.2 release. But, I'd like to learn the easiest way to handle ports. Thanks to Matthew Seaman, I will try out txz repos, when I find the correct address for that. Otherwise, I assume portmaster might do the job equally well. Reading manual, I guess flags like -P -a or -PP -a are made to fit? Next to think would be to

.rnd file after starting X
After updating to 9.2 release and upgrading ports, I had to compile nvidia driver 319.32. Finally, have graphics up. One file shows out of the blue, when- ever I run startx, spite I remove it regurarly. The size is 1024. Man for rand mentions it. I cannot see what openssl has to do with X at the moment. Amd64. I might send the file if someone wants to take a closer look at it. Best regards

ipfw logging
Hi all! After installing 5.3 I've noticed some change in firewall logging. Prior (on 5.2) rules gave me what I needed: trimed to 3 of the same connection. Every new connection on the same rule gave new log line up to 3. I have in kernel: FIREWALL FIREWALL_VERBOSE FIREWALL_VERBOSE_LIMIT=3 Now, all connections on the same rule are trimed to 3. Is it possib- le on 5.3 to have all

BUG: snprintf() with floating point numbers
Hello, I used the snprintf.{c,h} in rsync for my code, and found a bug in it: snprintf(s,16,"%f",0.025) results "0.250000". The problem is in snprintf.c, in fmtfp(), around line 732. I didn't try the solution (I do not need it anymore), but the zpadding number of '0'-s should be placed before fconvert. I am not in the list, so please cc the answer for the

SSD becomes detached 9.2
Hello, I am setting up a new (remote) server. I initially installed 9.2 RC4 amd64 because that's what the data center put in the drive for me. Shortly thereafter I downloaded 9.2-STABLE sources and compiled world and a generic kernel. While doing so the system became unreachable by SSH The SSH sessions appeared to connect but there was never any data returned. I could telnet to port 22

9.1 minimal ram requirements

Re: [Xen-ia64-devel] Weekly benchmark results [ww24]
================== STATUS ================== I do the heavy load test of create/destroy. CREDIT scheduler(cshed_schedule) checks BUG_ON(!vcpu_running) at the end of code. It makes error. The reason is that atomic_inc(&v->pausecnt)@vcpu_pause() is called without lock. (spin_lock(&schedule_data[cpu].schedule_lock)) This lock-less "pausecnt" makes vcpu_running state changing
