Syslinux cannot load memtest 86
Hi there,
I am using the latest version of both syslinux ( acutally isolinux ) and
memtest86.
I get the error "Cannot load a ramdisk with an old kernel image."
the memtest is just called memtest ( renamed from .bin as I read that in the
archives that was bad )
My isolinux.cfg is just
label memtest
kernel memtest
I searched google with not much avail. Is this a known issue to you?

loading/starting memtest with pxelinux-2.06 fails
Hi!
I try to start memtest86 with pxelinux.
I used to do this with pxelinux 1.66 for some time and it worked very well
with just
-------- SNIP --------------
label something
kernel memtest86.bin
-------- SNAP --------------
Now I upgraded to pxelinux 2.06 and there, it fails.
I can choose the entry, then the file is downloaded (at least one "." shows
up) and started but does

Yes, memtest boots from all variants of Syslinux 4.06.
But, in Syslinux 4.06, there is linux.c32,

It depends on the exact memory map of the system.

Would anyone in this thread care to try out 6.02-pre6? It contains a
bunch of changes that should hopefully get us on the path to fixing this
regression.
If you're feeling adventurous, you could even try,
debug.c32 -e pxelinux_scan_memory
(either from the boot: prompt or via a

Thanks, the network capture is _super_ helpful.
ldlinux.c32 isn't being requested from the tftp server, which means
you're machine is stuck somewhere in pxelinux.0.
Could you try and narrow down which

Hi,
- syslinux-6.01-pre6 -> Working
- syslinux-6.02-pre5 -> Working
- syslinux-6.02-pre6 -> NOT WORKING
With working I mean that I get my expected menu and I am able to boot
systemrescuecd.
Memtest doesn't boot on any mentioned versions.
Please tell me how I can help you debugging memtest or if you need
anything else.

Are you positive that the menu works with 6.02-pre5? There are two
changes between 6.02-pre5 and 6.02-pre6 and those two commits are
unlikely to have caused any regressions.

OK, could you try 6.02-pre8? It contains a revert of the single commit
that exists between 6.02-pre5 and 6.02-pre6.

Hi,
6.02-pre8 still doesn't work. Same error. Nothing happens, no menu.
Did you change something on the build system between pre5 and pre6?

Not intentionally and I looked through the logs on the build machine to
see if anything relevant was upgraded before I did the revert.
The files are not being corrupted by the

Works! I'll get my menu as expected and can boot a kernel.
Memtest still does not work, but I didn't expect that.
