nullfs changes MFC
Hi,
I am going to merge latest batch of the nullfs improvements into
stable/9. This will bring up significant performance enchancements due
to use of the shared locks for lookups if the lower layer supports it,
much better caching on the nullfs layer, and proper handling of the text
segments on the nullfs. Also, it should improve the error recovery and
some corner cases with locking.

MAC problems
FreeBSD version: 5.1-RELEASE
Hi,
I'm quite new to FreeBSD. I've check list archives and
read a handbook, but I didn't find solution to my problem
and I hope this is not off-topic.
I've installed 5.1-RELEASE, enabled ACLs on the filesystems
and I wanted to test MAC features. I'm also new to MAC, so
perhaps this is some my mistake.
When I enable mac_biba or mac_lomac (in

Errors in the FreeBSD handbook (MAC framework)
(crossposted to freebsd-security just in case someone has to slap me) :)
Hello,
I'm doing some work with the MAC subsystem in FreeBSD, and I have
spotted some errors in the MAC documentation in the handbook.
1- Section 15.14.4. Error in the example dropping users "nagios" and
"www" into the insecure class. The example uses the command "pw

Questions about MAC
FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE
Hi,
I'm examining Biba and MLS MAC policies and something is
not clear for me. Unless I'm doing something wrong,
it seems policies are enforced only for reading, but
not writing.
1) Biba
I've created test file with biba/127 label:
$ echo "Message" > file_biba_127.txt
$ setfmac biba/127 file_biba_127.txt
$ getfmac file_biba_127.txt

Proposal: MAC_BIBA and real-world usage
Hello,
Are there many people actually using the MAC subsystem in the real
world? I have been working to set up a shared hosting webserver and
I've stumbled against some limitations with the BIBA policy.
In short, it's an excellent model, and can be used succesfully if
applications are aware of its existance, but I find it incompatible
with the real-world needs in Unix, and,

mac questions: stopping root from reading /home && mac_biba stops clean shutdown
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I just try to understand the concepts and possiblities behind the mac
framework. After days of puzzling I found one puzzling behaviour and
still have one immediate question (this is on 5-stable)
- - when I enable mac_biba, set root to biba/equal (or any value,
actually), and do a setfmac -R biba/equal / I expect biba to be

Variance component estimation in glmmPQL
Hi all,
I've been attempting to fit a logistic glmm using glmmPQL in order to
estimate variance components for a score test, where the model is of the
form logit(mu) = X*a+ Z1*b1 + Z2*b2. Z1 and Z2 are actually reduced rank
square root matrices of the assumed covariance structure (up to a constant)
of random effects c1 and c2, respectively, such that b1 ~ N(0,sig.1^2*I) and

FREEBSD 7.1-STABLE crashes when trying to mount USB device of solaris UFS filesystem
Hi everybody,
today I met the following problems on my freebsd box. I had a USB stick
of opensolaris bootable USB image and tried to mount it on my fbsd box.
The first time, when I tried to mount the usb device, my system freezed
and then rebooted giving me one core in my dumpdev. When I tried to redo
the mounting, the kernel informed me that the filesystem needed to be
fsck'd before

ERROR_DNS_UPDATE_FAILED and NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL
Okay!!! My member server ip address is 192.168.**.56 (static).
When I run your command it is reporting the ip address of 192.168.**.55
(which is my DC02 address.)
So, I need to correct this. How do I remove the 'old member server' ip
address 192.168.**.55 reference and correct to 192.168.**.56?

crash on 7.2-RC1 when inserting an empty DVD: supervisor write, page not present
Hi there,
from time to time my PC panics when I insert an empty DVD or CD-R. The
kernel locks up instantly after the DVD writer's tray is closed. It
seems burning the first DVD isn't critical but inserting the second one
seems susceptible.
I use k3b as software, which polls the hardware while the tray is open,
maybe it's something with hald. Don't know, just use this.

Mounting devfs over to ZFS from fstab fails
Hello,
I have some jails running on ZFS, so I have to mount devfs's into them.
For this purpose, I have some similar lines in /etc/fstab:
devfs /pool/jail/ldap/dev devfs rw 0 0
Where /pool is a ZFS filesystem.
This has worked until today -when I upgraded from a previous 7-STABLE
(FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE #16: Fri Mar 7 14:30:08 CET 2008) to today's
STABLE- but not

10.0-RC1: bad mbuf leak?
Hi all,
I think I'm experiencing a bad mbuf leak or something of the sort and I
don't know how to diagnose this further.
I have a machine at home that is mostly used for transcoding video for
viewing on my TV via the multimedia/plexmediaserver port. This software
runs in a jail and gets the actual files from my NAS via NFSv4. It's a
pretty simple setup and sits idle unless I am

Request for information
Dear Developers,
I am a data science student. I wish to implement Neuro fuzzy Classifier,
Adaboost, MLkNN Multi label algorithms for web document classification.
I could not find packages and steps for above mention algorithms in mlr

Hence i request you to give your valuable suggestions.

So what exact dB value does flac use? mp3gain + 6 dB are 95 dB IIRC.
I tried to apply mp3gain -m 6 to my mp3s,

Problems with gain
Hello.
I have a problem here with replay gain. I use it to be able to hear all
my music without any difference in volume. But it seems that all players
I use ignore the gain value stored in my flac files. All flacs are
louder than the gained mp3s I have.

I stream read - stale NFS file handle
Hi,
I am running dovecot/postfix/amavisd within a jail on freebsd. I have a
nullfs mounted within the jail that links back to an NFS server.
I am constantly getting these errors and my mail never gets delivered. I
am hoping someone has a fix for me!

setfsmac and LOMAC aux grades - inconsistent behaviour
A bit of a background: I've been experimenting with LOMAC labels on a
9.1-RELEASE test system. To get the dynamic IP assigned to the machine, I
tried following recipe: set the label for /sbin/dhclient to
lomac/high[low]. This gets the job done, but there were a few problems:
first of all, this label does not seem to persist after a reboot - I have
not yet found a reasonable explanation
