Finally! Mongrel 0.3.13.4 Official (for Unix)
Hello! Today I''m announcing a "soft but official" release of Mongrel 0.3.13.4 for the Unix fans in the crowd. It''s been running stable for quite some time now for many people, and should be great for nearly everyone. You can read the announce at: http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/ This release includes new versions of mongrel_upload_progress and mongrel_cluster.

New automated Capistrano setup for Apache2.1+ and mongrel_cluster
Hi mongrel users! I just posted a bad-ass capistrano file that automates *everything* for setting up an apache2+mod_proxy_balancer and mongrel+mongrel_cluster -- including apache2 setups. It''s based off Coda Hale''s guide and all Bradley''s work at fluxura and RailsMachine (thanks Coda and Bradley!). It''s, well, bad-ass, if I must say so myself. My favorite

Mass virtual hosting with mongrel
Ok, a refinement of the question I asked yesterday (If there were any replies from yesterday I don''t have access to them here .. sorry if I''m duplicating anybody''s words here). How can one host multiple domains with mongrel? Assuming you are mass vhosting and you also want the performance benefits of using mongrel ... As far as I can tell, one could set up a

mongrel_cluster 0.2.2 prerelease
Hey y''all: I''ve added some new stuff to mongrel_cluster. Give it try and let me know if it works for you. * Added ''--clean'' to cluster::start to force removal of the pidfile before trying to start the cluster member. This is useful for recovering from unexpected process death. * Added ''--only PORT'' to cluster::* to support running a

Merb in production with God/Monit
Hey All, I just wanted to get other peoples take on problems when running merb in production? Just as Rails used to do, the mongrels tend to get heavy/unresponsive over time so need a good kicking by a watcher daemon like god or monit. However, I have had serious problems getting God to restart the process, as the "merb -k <port>" command doesnt appear to work reliably

[WARNING] don''t use ruby-sendfile
Hi Folks, I''ve been getting reports of people with serious stability problems in Mongrel. These problems go away instantly when they remove ruby-sendfile. If your mongrel starts up saying that you have "sendfile installed" and that it is using it then **you are wrong**. Remove the gem and don''t use it. I''ll be investigating why it doesn''t really

NOT FOUND error
I''ve been hunting the web and reading the mailing lists all day but I''m not finding any guidance on this problem. When I try to talk to my mongrel it simply responds with NOT FOUND and nothing else. I can''t find anything on google because this has to be the second most commond phrase in existence. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Chuck Vose

mongrel_cluster clarification
Apologizes in advance if this sounds rather dense, but I want to make sure I''m understanding everything correctly. We''re in the process of migrating from Apache2.0/FastCGI to Apache2.0+mongrel (why not 2.2? that story is too long and too uninteresting to recount here, but I will tell you that it involves RHEL and only using RHN rpms). The init script that comes with mongrel

Mongrel Upload Progress progress method returns Content-Length: 0
Running into a strange bug using the mongrel upload progress plugin handler, sitting in front of a simple mongrel. The bug appears on an old Xserve (mac OS X 10.3.9 powerpc), but not on my macbook pro, or even a generic 686 linux box. http://pastie.textmate.org/98341 The gist of the pastie above shows that attempts through the browser and curl are actually hitting the filesController, as

Capistrano and Uploaded Documents
I have an application I''m working on which allows me to upload files. The files are stored somewhere in the public directory so that they can be accessed directly. When I deploy an update with Capistrano, I ''lose'' the files because of the current symlink points to the new checked out version. Before I start working on a solution, has anyone else already solved this

Deploying only what you need with Capistrano?
The recent Rails security issue highlighted a concern I''ve had about Rails deploys; namely, you shouldn''t deploy anything to production that you don''t need there. Rails apps have a number of scripts--potential security holes or DOS targets in this case--along with all the other application code you need. There''s no reason you should have script/server, console,

Mongrel with mephisto on a Virtual Private Server
Hello everyone, I am trying to setup Mongrel to work with Apache on a VPS as part of a mephisto installation. Has anyone done this, and if so how did you edit your conf file to make it work? I used the info found on the mongrel site at: http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/docs/apache.html<http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/docs/apache.html> and one time I did get a mephisto splash screen, but it was

Error : No protocol handler was valid for the URL...
Hi everybody, I just suscribe to the list because I have a problem using mongrel and mongrel_cluster... I setup a server (debian unstable wich provide apache 2.2.3 as a pakage) but I have an error when I try to access my application : ERROR 403 : Forbidden, You don''t have permission to access / on this server. When I check apache''s logs I found that : [warn] proxy: No

Mongrel and SSL?
I have a small intranet app with only 20 or so users. I''m currently using lighttpd w/ssl for production and mongrel for dev. I don''t think Mongrel supports ssl, but what is the easiest front-end to put in front of it? Pound? Thanks Greg -- Greg Freemyer The Norcross Group Forensics for the 21st Century

Capistrano /usr/bin/env: ruby: no such file or directory
Hi, I''m deploying to a prod linux server via Capistrano, but the last step, running the reaper, won''t complete. Ruby is stored in /usr/local/bin on the server, and I''m deploying from winxp. $ ssh mcalogin@lx07 Password: mcalogin@LX07:~> env | grep "^PATH" PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/bin:/usr/games:/opt/gnome/b in:/opt/

mongrel.pid disappearing
Hi to everybody, This my first post on the list. I''m a newby of mongrel & rails, I''ve deployed my first project and everything seems to work fine, the only problem I have is the following: After about 1 or 2 days of the mongrel_rails daemon running the mongrel.pid in the log directory disappears, the mongrel process is still there running but doesn''t respond

newbie Capistrano question
Hi, My name is Paul Kristoff and I am rather new to rails. I am trying to use Capistrano for the first time and am rather confused. My confusion boils down to the :repository variable in the deploy.rb file. Is this supposed to point to where your code is currently being stored? Here is what leads to that question, I am working with an ISP that supports rails. I originally had the

Namespace collions "cluster"
Hi there I have a rails application that has been deployed with mongrel_cluster. My application contains a model "Cluster.rb" and now I run into namespacing problems when accessing the Cluster class (the Mongrel:Cluster module get''s to try to resolve method calls which leads to a embarrassing NoMethodFound errors) I have started renaming my model, but I wonder what the

Apache Re-Write and Directories
Howdy, I am using the ''default'' Apache 2.2 mod_rewrite rules suggested from the Web site and they are working. One thing related to static (non cluster directed) resources: If I have a directory in public called ''static'', if I request it as follows: http://www.domain.com/static/ - then it works If I request it as: http://www.domain.com/static - then it
