debian wheezy 4.1.11 ldap backend / uid/gid resolving
Hi, i am transitioning from a samba3 to a samba4 installation and while at it i noticed that on samba4 every file access querys the LDAP (openldap) backend for uid/gid names. With samba3 on Debian/Squeeze i dont see this happening. My assumption was that nscd would cache away those querys which it doesnt on the samba4 wheeze installation. [2015/01/09 15:21:46.331508, 3]

Consistent Inter-Samba UID/GID Mappings
Hi everyone, I'm trying to ensure my various Samba3 fileservers have consistent Samba User/Group -> Linux UID/GID mappings between them. The domain is controlled by a Samba4 DC. Samba3 is used because it's maintained in the distributions that we have deployed already. I believe that using Winbind with idmap_rid is probably the easiest way to accomplish this, however I have had no

Consistent UID/GID mappings?
Greetings everyone, I am currently in the process of trying to setup Samba4 as an Active Directory DC. My environment contains about 50% of Windows workstations, and 50% of Centos servers/Ubuntu workstations. Everything setup quite nicely, with Windows workstations and Linux machines being able to logon with a domain user. The problem I have is I can't seem to be able to get consistent UIDs

idmap_ad alloc to store uid/gid attributes in AD
It would be a handy feature to have idmap_ad implement an alloc routine to write back the uid and gid mappings to AD either as SFU attributes or RFC 2307 attributes. I figure this could allow dynamic uid and gid allocation that can be easily preserved across multiple domains in a Windows environment. Has there been any attempt to provide this feature? Ross S. W. Samba4 doesn't respect 'mask' ACL
Hi, I have discovered a bug when using CIFS mounted shares from Samba4 on a Linux machine. We use custom ACLs to allow certain groups extra access to home shares, setting 'user:staff:r-x' using setfacl, along with the related 'default' ACL so that it propagates to newly created directories. For this to work, we also set 'mask::rwx'. These shares have group and other

Samba3 installation issues
I'm trying to install the Samba3 rpm's on a SuSE 9.0 machine. Bug in sernet RPM's postun?
Hi, I was just wondering whether this possible bug with the Sernet Samba3 RPMs for CentOS 5 is known, since it has not yet been fixed. When uninstalling the Sernet RPMs for Samba3 (in this case Samba 3.2.x) the %postun scriptlet fails every time with: # rpm -e samba3-3.2.0-36 /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.56356: line 2: fg: no job control error: %postun(samba3-3.2.0-36.x86_64) scriptlet failed, exit status

samba-tool user add --uid
Is it a bug or a feature? While --gid maps to the gidNumber OID of posixAccount, --uid maps to uid, which is supposed to contain the textual user name. The numerical uid should be in uidNumber, but there doesn't seem to be an option to set this. Of course the aim is to migrate an existing OpenLDAP, Kerberos, Samba3 infrastructure to Samba4 AD. Thanks for your help, - lars.

"Well-known Windows RIDs" vs. UIDs/GIDs
Hey all, I'm looking to merge multiple NT4 domains into a single infrastructure based on Samba3 and OpenLDAP on Linux of the Debian Sarge flavour (and, Bob willing, Samba4 before long). In order to allow some resources to be shared from a single Linux instance, I'm rather hoping that I can put every domain's information into a single LDAP DIT. The Samba PDCs will use only portions of

Samba Update Newbie Problem
Hi I'm quite new to Linux and now I've got a problem with installing the Samba 3.0.2 RPMs on my SuSE 8.2 system. I deinstalled the older version of Samba and tried to install by using the rpm -i command. After successfully installing the client and documentation RPMs i get the following errors: pcy23:~ # rpm -i samba3-winbind-3.0.2a-30.i386.rpm error: failed dependencies: samba

SuSE 9.3 samba binaries FUBAR??
Mates, I dunno if nobody else is using the samba binaries to put 3.0.20-1 on SuSE 9.3 -- or -- if I'm just doing something stupid, but there seem to be library problems. Specifically, we are getting library errors for the *.so.2 libraries, regardless of whether we try via YAST or RPM. david@nemesis:~/Documents/linux/rpms/samba320> ll total 19970 -rw-r--r-- 1 david users 60998

php script to migrate other attributes after running classicupgrade
Hi, I have written a php script to upgrade a fresh s4 AD with more details from a (s3) ldap server. I am no programmer AT ALL, so I guess this is very dirty and un-elegant, but it does the trick. We had multiple "mail" attributes in openldap, and since AD only allows 1 mail attribute, additional mail addresses are migrated to "otherMailbox" AD attributes. Perhaps someone

Win9x via Kix unable to get extended user attributes
Hi all, In trying to upgrade Samba here, I have built various versions from 3.0.11 to 3.0.14a using various versions of gcc and the Sun compiler (this is on Solaris SPARC) and had the following problem in all cases. Running the built samba as a logon server, I find that WinXP clients work fine but Win9X clients have some difficulties. The problem is that the Win9X logon script can't
