Samba to share NFSv4 + ACL mounted filesystems on NetApp storage
Hi, We are running into a problem with a Samba setup and would like to know if a current fix or workaround is at all possible. Our setup is a NetApp filer serving NFS v4 that is mounted by Solaris and Linux servers. On those servers we are using Samba to create shares of those NFSv4 mounted filesystems. We are migrating to this NFSv4 setup from an existing Solaris NFSv3+Posix ACL setup that also

MySQL issues with kernel-2.6.18-53.1.6.el5.x86_64.rpm
Hi all! Just a word of warning: after updating a few of our x86_64 based web frontend boxes to the new kernel, we began to get weird MySQL timeouts. The problem went away again when we downgraded to the previous kernel-2.6.18-53.1.6.el5.x86_64.rpm regards, Bent Terp

Contrasts with an interaction. How does one specify the dummy variables for the interaction
Forgive my resending this post. To data I have received only one response (thank you Bert Gunter), and I still do not have an answer to my question. Respectfully, John Windows XP R 2.12.1 contrast package. I am trying to understand how to create contrasts for a model that contatains an interaction. I can get contrasts to work for a model without interaction, but not after adding the

Hierarchial storage management or automated archival to tape
Hi list! While regular backup solutions like amanda or bacula are very good at their job, ie keeping point2point copies of the files currently on disk, I find them less suited for archiving - having unused files move to tape in duplo and stay there until requested. I've even read of multi-tier solutions - move to slower disks after a week and further on to tape after a month. Does anyone

update clamav to 0.99.2
Helo, update is in EPEL repository. on startup, clamd does not further create clamd.sock and clamd.pid clamd service stops without any message - even in debug mode. It's a nightmare. Pushing real machines into KVM/Qemu
Hi all, I took a real Core 2 machine (T7200? whose motherboard was starting to die?) running Fedora 29 and dd?d the SSD over to my KVM server, then created a VM using ?create from existing image?. After some tweaking, including setting the disk type to ?SATA? from ?Virtio?, I got it working. Is there a fixed recipe for virtualizing CentOS/Fedora/RHEL instances into running VM?s on KVM/Qemu?

share folder as USB mass storage device
Hi all! Maybe I'm just being silly here, but I'm wondering if anybody has ever used their computer for sharing files over USB. That is, the computer pretends to be a USB mass storage device. This could be useful for connecting to media players and such that support you plugging a USB harddrive or memory stick. Surely, somebody must have thought of this before :-D regards, Bent

update CentOS 7 at Nov 05 2019
yum update was run 23.10.19 and then 05.11.19 to the beginning of the update 5.11.2019 kernel logging to /var/log/messages was ok. During the update at 5.11.2019 logging to /var/log/messages finished. I persume, this bug began during processing updates. yum-log shows: ........... CLAMD and EXIM - anyone got it working`
Has anyone actually got CLAMD and EXIM working? I've just had a go on a new VPS server without success. The only thing that happened was that my server slowed because clamd was hogging CPU. I have done a lot of googling and all I found was a couple of howto's that said the same thing, and my questions from 2015 which is the last time I tried this. I can get clamd / freshclam etc

persistent generic device for tape changer
Hello, mtx and therefor amanda use generic device /dev/sg<x> for tape changer. These devices change on reboot. How to make them persistent? /dev/sch0 and /dev/sch1 seem to be persistent. /dev/tape/by-id/ shows links from WWID to generic device An UDEV rule could help? VM migration problems
I have migrated KVM VMs from a CentOS 6 to a CentOS 7 host. All work fine post-migration, CentOS 3 (don't ask ...), CentOS 6, CentOS 7, Windows. But the CentOS 5 VMs failed. At some point during the boot process, they became unpingable and also inaccessible. I have correlated this to the start of the irqbalance service and was wondering if it is generally considered best practice to turn it

Cluster server options?
I have a 10 blade cluster of just hardware - I can install what I want, how I want. ? What options are there if I wanted to build the 10 blades as one large beast, but _NOT_ necessarily for someone doing grid-type work? ? ?Some users don't now how to program that way, but they'd like to have their program run on something that acts like a single processor, but a massive single processor
