Request for reviewing lsetstat patch
Dear all,
With openssh 6.6 out the door, I want to make a case to add lsetstat to
sftp-server.
The patches are provided in bug 2067. I hope they can be incorporated in
the next version.I have them running for a year on several systems already
and they work fine IMHO.
At the moment sftp is not able to set timestamps on symlinks.
In order to make this possible lsetstat needs to be implemented.

Hardlink patches for sftp
Dear all,
I am looking for the status on the hardlink patches that were
published on this list last february by Miklos Szeredi?
I'd really like to have hardlink support in sftp. This would in turn
enable hardlinks in sshfs and make incremental rsync backups to remote
filesystems possible.
can someone tell me if these patches will be incorporated in openssh?
The patches can be found under

[announce] Dirvish 1.1 final
I am pleased to announce the availability of Dirvish version
1.1 final.
Dirvish is a fast, disk based, rotating network backup system.
With dirvish you can maintain a set of complete images of
your filesystems with unattended creation and expiration. A
dirvish backup vault is like a time machine for your data.

Dirvish, --link-dest and permissions
(I'm not sending this to dirvish@pegasus because I think that this message
applies more to rsync's --link-dest option than to just dirvish.)
I recently noticed a huge spike in dirvish network usage and traced it to
files whose permissions had been changed. (with rsync v2.5.6)
I understand and agree that a --link-dest copy of a source file cannot be
hardlinked to, but couldn't a

ssh -vvv
Hello All,
I just had an interesting experience tracking down a bug on Solaris 8, and ssh -vvv was of no help which is part of the reason why I write this email.
When DSA public/private keys fail to authenticate me without a password, it just falls thru to the next authentication type and I can't see a way to see why it happened.
The extra debug levels don't tell me "Hey you idiot,

Sad news about JW Schultz
I was saddened to learn today that JW Schultz was found dead back on
March 27th of this year. JW was a big help in the recent development of
rsync and I sorely missed his presence during the last release cycle.
JW was also the author of the Dirvish backup software, and Keith
Lofstrom (who provided me with the sad news) has plans to put some
memorial information onto the new dirvish site as

--link-dest copying modified files
Hi!
It's me again with another --link-dest issue:
I am using dirvish (www.dirvish.org) to create daily backup on disk
images.
dirvish is using rsync with --link-dest pointing to the last good image.
This creates images with hardlinks to unmodified files. So far so good.
Now I want to create a "current" filetree with hardlinks pointing to the
last image.

How to prevent batch rsync to write rsync_argvs files in the home directory
Hi,
Whenever i am using the command
rsync --write-batch -av --stats `cat $1` -e ssh user@remote machine:/destination/
This is writing rsync_argvs files in the home directory as well as to the destination directory.
Can anyone give me any idea as how to prevent the writing of rsync_argvs files in the home directory which is of no use.
Regards,
Surabhi.

good snapshot solution
Hi all,
I have installed rsync 2.5.5 as daemons on our 35 Netware servers (no 2.5.6
is yet available for Netware) and do a daily sync from a Linux Rsync client
machine with 1.2 TB disk capacity. For the moment we do a daily, weekly and
monthly backup on tape of this machine, but I'd like to replace the daily
backups by a disc-based setup. It would be good to be able to share the

PRNG is not seeded
This is likely a linux or ssh problem, but perhaps someone else on this
list may have encountered it. I have run about 15,000 instances of
rsync in the last year, (about 500 total hours of rsyncing) using ssh
as a transport mechanism ( actually, I am running the dirvish backup
wrapper, www.dirvish.org, around rsync). In all cases, I am pulling
filesystems from a linux client to a linux backup

rsync: file too large (27) errors.
I am getting a file too large error. I have googled this and read bug
reports on file. I have upgraded rsync on the system that appeared to be
having problems. I am still not able to find a solution.
I am using Dirvish for backups and was directed to ask here as this was
determined to be more of an rsync issue.
Backup1 = system that initiates Dirvish and pulls the data from other hosts.

[Bug 1555] add attribute extensions to sftp-server
https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1555
--- Comment #10 from Bert Haverkamp <bert at bertenselena.net> ---
IMO, this bug should be closed as resolved, as the patch was included
in version 5.7, right? Who is to do this?

--server options
Hi all,
I see a couple of earlier threads, particularly this one:
https://www.mail-archive.com/rsync at lists.samba.org/msg32328.html
partly answer my question, but not fully.
I also am writing a wrapper, so that I can run multiple dirvish runs
against the same server, using forced commands, but without using
multiple keys to get multiple commands, which is my current workaround.
But in the

OpenSSH and pam_radius_auth.so
Hi,
I have recently upgraded from OpenSSH-3.5 to OpenSSH-3.8 on my Red Hat 6.2 servers. I use radius (pam_radius_auth) for ssh authentication. Since the upgrade ssh1 (putty 0.52) logins are failing. I've come to the conclusion that pam is skipping the radius section of the config file and is falling back to standard unix authentication.
Is there any way of making ssh1 work with radius on
