Domain admins not getting local admin rights
Hi there, I switched servers yesterday. The old server was running 2.2.7a-1 on RedHat 8.0. The new server is 3.0.8-0.pre1.3 on Fedora Core 3. I did the migration by copying the following: /etc/passwd /etc/group /etc/shadow /etc/samba/* I then copied /home and fixed all the permissions on stuff. I then started up samba on the new server, and unplugged the old one. Most everything went

samba password complexity help?
Hi there, Here are the facts: - I have samba 3.4.2-0.42.fc11 running on a Fedora 11 system. - Samba is acting as a domain controller, no Windows server involved. - I am using tdbsam. - I need to enforce certain password requirements. The password requirements are: - min 8 characters - expiration 90 days - last 10 passwords may not be reused - not a dictionary word Per the Samba 3.2 FAQ, the

Multiple login failures problem
I am yet another person who is having a problem with Win98 clients needing to make several attempts before successfully logging in to our Samba box. I get the "broken pipe" message in the smb.log just like everyone else. This did not seem to be a problem until we got a phat broadband connection. All the Windows boxes are set to point to our ISP's DNS. I am not running DNS on the

WINS servers and browsing
Well, I've asked a couple times already but I will ask one more, since I still havent' managed to get any further. We have several sites. Each site has it's own network and domain. We are connected via a WAN. Is the best practice to have one WINS server for each site? Or is a single WINS server for the WAN the way to go? Right now I have a single WINS server for the WAN. I CAN NOT

Calculating Betweenness - Efficiency problem
Hello, I am calculating 'Betweenness' of a large network using R. Currently, I have the node-node information (City1-City2) in an excel file, present in two columns where column A has City1 and column B has City2 that city1 is connected to. These are the steps that I go through to calculate betweenness of my network. a) Convert the City1-City2 (text) into Number1-Number2 in the excel

weird problem with "access denied" on share
Hi folks, I am having a weird problem that I just recently noticed on this particular server runnng Samba 3.0.10 on Fedora Core 3 and am hoping someone could shed some light on this. We're using tdb for our backend database. The user "nsu" is a member of unix group admin. The unix group admin is mapped to "Domain Adminstrators". This works OK, in that when logging in

questions about password complexity checking.
Hi Samba folks, I had a couple questions about password complexity checking. To preface, in smb.conf, we set: check password script = /usr/local/sbin/crackcheck -d /usr/share/cracklib/pw_dict Also, if I understand correctly: /usr/local/sbin/crackcheck comes from samba source rpm package. maybe we need to compile it ourselves. /usr/share/cracklib/pw_dict* comes from cracklib-dicts rpm

windows7 and samba 3.4.7 in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Is there a specific way of doing the smb.conf to make windows7 join the domain? was able to make windows7 join in one instance but when is not successful in logging into the domain using a domain user and also cannot add a domain user to the local machine. From my initial attempts, I was able to join the win7 machine but after I upgraded to 3.4.7 everything seems to have gone to hell.

trouble with ldap authentication on centos+openldap
Hi Samba List, I've been trying to get a samba+ldap working on centos 6.3. I've had some troubles adapting to the new slapd.d configuration format for the openldap, which seems unnecassarily complicated. Most of the tutorials refer to the older style slapd.conf configuration. I was following this tutorial:

After update from 3.5.x to 3.6.23 all printers configured in CUPS they are no longer shared
After update my PDC server from Centos 5.5 to 5.11 and then samba 3.5 to 3.6.22 all work fine, except printers: all CUPS printers shared are not visible and usable from clients. If I put manually each printer (like suggest here[1]) into smb.conf, all printers manually added are visible and usable (this is my workaround for now). In smb.conf I have set: load printers = yes

samba4 dc to adc failover
Hi Samba List! Used samba3 for years, now it's time for samba4 (thanks!!!) Unfortunately I am not familiar with certain microsoft concepts about AD and the roles of domain controllers. I've got three vm's for my experiments: 1) a samba4 domain controller test1.test.local 2) a samba4 additional domain controller test2 joined to my domain test.local. 3) a win7 workstation that is

[Fwd: Samba Blues]
Ok...I can't believe I'm still struggling with this!!! I've setup a SAMBA server using ARCH Linux 0.7 (Wombat) *what a distro!!* and everything is fine except when it comes to adding machines to the domain (aaarrrgghh). When I try to do it via windows, I get "the domain is no longer available". So I add a machine account manually, then go to windows and walla, I get the

migrating NT4 PDC net rpc vampire errors with capital letters
Hi, I have searched for days on Google and can't find a clear answer to my question. I have a NT4 PDC which I am migrating to Samba 3 (Version 3.4.2-47.fc12) on FC12 with kernel(2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686). I am using tdbsam as my passdb backend. I setup Samba as a BDC and then joined to NT4 Domain succesfully. When I go to vampire the accounts I get lots of errors and some user accounts get

Linux-to-Linux Samba Migration
I'm working on migrating from Mandrake 10.0 to Ubuntu 5.10. The last, and probably most important, service to be moved is Samba... The setup is fairly simple, here is is: - Mandrake Linux 10.0 - Samba 3.0.10 Here's the "global" Samba configuration of my server: [global] workgroup = <workgroup name> server string = <string> passdb backend =
