FreeBSD 10 Beta 2: make installkernel failure with installer provided ZFS configuration.
Hi, I was trying to rebuild world on a FreeBSD 10 test system, that I had just installed. ZFS root was setup. I let the installation program do all the ZFS setup and configuration. I put root on a 5 disk encrypted raidz array. Besides the installer configuring 5 times the amount of swap space I asked for (asked for 8gb, installer put 8gb on each drive, for 40gb in total.) everything was working

SSD becomes detached 9.2
Hello, I am setting up a new (remote) server. I initially installed 9.2 RC4 amd64 because that's what the data center put in the drive for me. Shortly thereafter I downloaded 9.2-STABLE sources and compiled world and a generic kernel. While doing so the system became unreachable by SSH The SSH sessions appeared to connect but there was never any data returned. I could telnet to port 22

make_dev_physpath_alias
Hello all. I have a supermicro 16 bay box with a LSI 9211-8i card. We use it for temp data storage, and we wanted to try the l4z compression. After updating the source tree to r247839: and doing a make buildworld cycle all works fine. But at boot time we get some warnings. make_dev_physpath_alias: WARNING - Unable to alias gptid/281951f4-a996-11e1-83eb-00259061b51a to enc at

time keeps on slipping... slipping...
I recently put together a new machine w/ a SuperMicro H8SCM and an AMD Opteron 4228 HE... I've having an issue where the clock on the machine skips around... The wierd part is that it's very sudden when it happens... ntp sometimes brings it back, but it can't when the clock gets too far ahread (1000 seconds), ntp dies... In order to catch it happening, I ran a sleep 60 loop

ahcich reset -> cannot mount zfs root in 9.1-PRE
Hi all, Trying to upgrade a system from 9.0-RELEASE to 9.1-PRE from yesterday on my machine (GEOM+ZFS mirror setup on ada[01]p3), the new kernel becomes unable to mount root... The only way to recover is to boot from 9.0 kernel. The disks were already named ada[01] in 9.0, so I suspect nothing there... I tried - disabling AHCI in bios (no change seen) - change cables, check PSU, test disks

volume start causes glusterd to core dump in 3.5.0
I just built a pair of AWS Red Hat 6.5 instances to create a gluster replicated pair file system. I can install everything, peer probe, and create the volume, but as soon as I try to start the volume, glusterd dumps core. The amazing smartctl -a /dev/hda
I finally fixed my drive error problem. This has been going on quite a while. I've posted before with no success on getting this fixed. I was getting these errors. Spectacularly disappointing disk throughput
Greetings! I''ve got a FreeBSD-based (FreeNAS) appliance running as an HVM DomU. Dom0 is Debian Squeeze on an AMD990 chipset system with IOMMU enabled. The DomU sees six physical drives: one of them is a USB stick that I''ve passed through in its entirety as a block device. The other five are SATA drives attached to a controller that I''ve handed to the DomU with PCI

strange deadlock and magic resurrection with RELENG_6
Hi, I'm using a recent RELENG_6 under I386/SMP (Athlon X2 4800+). dmesg output is under http://people.freebsd.org/~mr/dmesg.log.gz Root is on gmirror volume (2 SATA disks), a backup FS is on graid3 (5 firewire disks). This server acts as an bacula server. During backup with bacula I discovered an complete system freeze (no keyboard, nfs, disk...) after the following lines on the screen: ...

SMART errors
I dumpster dived an older low end Dell (actually, found it in a field in a fresh dump pile). Case looked good, only flaws appeared to be missing cdrom bezel and the heat sink clamp was off (but not broken). After cleaning cpu/heat sink and fresh thermal paste, I found out why it was dumped - the internal hard drive was bad, and the optical drive is going bad. I had an old 80 GB Seagate and

FreeBSD 9.0 - GPT boot problems?
Hi, I just installed FreeBSD 9.0-release / amd64 on a new machine (Acer Aspire X1470). I installed from a usb memory stick (the default amd64 image), which I booted by pressing "F12" and selecting it from the boot menu on the machine. I installed on a SSD (which replaced the hard drive originally in the machine), using the default scheme for 9.0 (GPT). The installation was painless (many

multiple disk failure
Hi, I am using FreeBSD 8.2 and went to add 4 new disks today to expand my offsite storage. All was working fine for about 20min and then the new drive cage started to fail. Silly me for assuming new hardware would be fine :( The new drive cage started to fail, it hung the server and the box rebooted. After it rebooted, the entire pool is gone and in the state below. I had only written a few

Geom label lost after expanding partition
I have a GPT formatted disk where I recently expanded the size of a partition. I used "gpart resize -i 6 ada1" first to expand the partition to use the remaining free space and then growfs to modify the FFS file system to use the full partition. This was all done in single-user mode, of course, but when I enter "exit" to bring the system up, it failed to mount /usr. This was

Boot hangs on v9 system at CD device probe
I sent a note about this a couple of weeks ago, but have not heard anything. I'm really getting a bit desperate. I have a system that I am trying to upgrade from 8.2 to 9.0. I have built it and installed the kernel, but it fails to boot. The boot freezes after probing for my hard drives during the probe of the CDROM. It just sits there, seemingly forever, though I have never waited longer

out of HDD space - zfs degraded
Overnight I was running a zfs send | zfs receive (both within the same system / zpool). The system ran out of space, a drive went off line, and the system is degraded. This is a raidz2 array running on FreeBSD 8.1-STABLE #0: Sat Sep 18 23:43:48 EDT 2010. The following logs are also available at http://www.langille.org/tmp/zfs-space.txt <- no line wrapping This is what was running: #

How does UDMA mode get set?
Hi all, I have been tracking -STABLE on one of my home machines for a little while, now and noticed something the other day. I was given this system, and I have only run FreeBSD-STABLE on it. The motherboard is a Supermicro370SWD with an Intel 810 "Whitney" chipset (82810DC100 GMCH + 82801AA ICH). The docs say that there is support for UDMA66, but FreeBSD reports that the drive is
