PATCH: fast copy of files in local server mode
Dear List,
the attached patch makes rsync of local folders almost as fast as cp.
when rsync client and server has detected that they are working in
local_server mode,
they use local_socket, a unix domain socket pair, to pass the file
descriptors of the synced files.
the server uses the file descriptor it receives from the client to fast copy
from src to dst file.
on completion of every file fast

Pipe creation problem: From Java app using rsync + ssh on windows with cygwin
Hello,
I'm having trouble calling rsync from java on windows vista with cygwin
installed.
Its strange as pasting the exact same command into a command shell works
fine.
My test java call looks like this.

String[] envVars = {"PATH=c:/cygwin/bin;%PATH%"};
File workingDir = new File("c:/cygwin/bin/");
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("c:/cygwin/bin/rsync.exe

[PATCH] --source-filter && --dest-filter for rsync 2.5.6
Hi,
I needed to filter content of files (encrypt), before they are sent over the network to backup server.
The easiest way to do this was modifying Kyle Jones's "--dest-filter" patch.
Somebody was asking there this feature in the past, so I'm sending this patch to list.
Implementation details:
-filtering disables rsync alogrithm
-source filter makes temporary files in /tmp

[PATCH] Batch-mode rewrite
Wayne,
Please consider the attached patch. This applies to the current
CVS, and is independant of patches/local-batch.diff. As a matter of
fact, I'm sure it would conflict heavily with local-batch.diff.
This version of batch mode has a couple distinguishing features:
Write-batch records (almost) the entire sender side of the conversation
into one file. ("Almost" because it has

merge rsync+ into rsync (was Re: rsync-2.4.7 NEWS file)
> Just curious: what about the rsync+ patch?
Thanks for the reminder.
I've just committed Jos's rsync+ patch onto the
"branch_mbp_rsyncplus_merge" branch. If it works OK and nobody
screams I will move it across onto the main tree tomorrow or
Wednesday.
I see the patch doesn't add documentation about the new options to the
man page, so we should fix that in the future.

rsync v2.6.9: small patch fixing NORETURN failures
Hello,
as of gcc v2.7.2.1, the noreturn attribute needs to be given
*after* the prototype declaration and not before, but for
gcc v3.x, things changed for this attribute again, since
gcc v2.5.x did it the way, newer gcc versions prefer it...
I've applied a small unified diff, fixing this stuff.
THX for listening.

patch for combining detect-renamed and fileflags patches (fwd)
Dear collegaues,
please evaluate the patch attached, which allow to use both --detect-renamed
and --fileflags extra features.
This is meta-patch which sould be applied to detect-renamed. fileflags patch
should be applied first, following by the modified detect-renamed patch.
It is included in current FreeBSD port, but it seems it would be much more
useful to be supported by samba

[patch] Filename conversion
Hi,
One feature missing from rsync, and requested on this list before, is
on-the-fly conversion of filename character encoding. For example, I
often need to sync files having Hebrew filenames from a UTF-8 system
(Linux) to an ISO8859-8 system (Cygwin on Windows 2000 using the
non-Unicode Win32 interface). Other circumstances surely abound.
Attached is a patch against rsync 2.6.2 that adds an

patch to rsync to add options for pre- and post-transfer commands
In case others find this of value, I wrote a patch to rsync 2.5.6 to
give rsync in --daemon mode the ability to run a pre-transfer and
post-transfer command. These options handle our need to prepare a server
to receive files and to do some processing after receiving files.
The options for /etc/rsyncd.conf are
pretransfer script = /some/command/to/run
posttransfer script =

rsync 2.6.2 with Posix socket on HP-UX
Hi,
I tried to compile rsync 2.6.2 as a 64-bit application
on HP-UX 11.23.
$ CC=cc CFLAGS="-Ae +DD64" configure
$ make
$ make check
'make check' fails with daemon mode tests with the
following error message.
rsync: socketpair_tcp failed (Address family not supported by protocol family).
There seems to be a problem with the mixture of BSD
and Posix socket specification.

rsync SIGSEGV signal handler in Cygwin.
Hello!
I am using rsync compiled with Cygwin on windows.
I must call rsync from the *.bat script (I don't want to use a bash on Windows)
and I have noticed that in the case when program compiled by Cygwin crashes
via segmentation fault and default SIGSEGV handler is called, then it
terminates process with exit status 0 as I see it from my *.bat script.
(But if I invoke a program from bash

Several changes missing from [HEAD] fileflags.diff
Looking at http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/patches/fileflags.diff --
It looks like the changes from fileflags-fixes.diff patch were applied
to the patch from http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/rsync-patches-3.0.0.tar.gz

patch for linux capabilities
I was wondering if it might be possible for an rsync developer to
look over the attached patch (tested on Linux 2.4.24 against the
rsync-2.6.0 release), and offer suggestions on how I could improve it.
Basically I want to use Linux finer grained capabilities to retain
only CAP_SYS_CHROOT & CAP_DAC_READ_SEARCH when rsync drops root
privs. That way I can take whole system backups as a (mostly)

Adding arguments to the options
Hello,
I am developing an application which uses the Rsync. I have added an
option for HTTPS in rsync code like '-v' for "--verbose".
But now I want to make that option to take the arguments. For that in
options.c file, I have added the entry in the array of structure as,
> static struct poptOption long_options[] = {

PATCH: --write-devices to allow synchronising to a block device
Hi List,
I had a need recently to efficiently synchronise between some large LUNs
(boot drive disks) at two different datacentres. Solutions like drbd and
$proprietary_array_vendors_software were overkill - we only needed
(wanted!) to periodically synchronise these LUNs whenever major changes
were generated on the source. On the other hand however, re-sending the
entire disk contents each time
