Using Wine-git for running programs.
OS Debian Linux Wheezy
wine-1.5.21-109-g136b738
I am just reinstalling wine and installed wine-git because I know I am
going to have to do a regression or two. I haven't bothered to install
wine by it self. When I tried to install and run a version of Websters
dictionary the program installed without error but refused to run
producing a fatal error window. I had this program running under

winecfg screen size
I have been trying to get wine up and running for some time. I work with
the Debian Linux system with a KDE Desktop. Debian is supplying version
1.0.1 . I just installed the .deb file from the Wine website which is
version 1.1.24. That is the highest version available for the Debian
system. All of the versions that I have tried have the same thing wrong
with the graphic interface. I will use

X server Display error in Debian Linux with KDE
I use Debian Linux squeeze version wht KDE desktop. I installed wine and
am missing most of the destop stuff I have seen in the documentation. I
am getting the following when I run winecfg or wine control in my
command line console. The X server is definitely running since
everything in KDE works fine. Running echo $DISPLAY returns :0

mod_rewrite issue
I'm installing Drupal 6.2 in the document root of a CentOS 5 install using
httpd-2.2.3-11.el5_1. I'm using a virtual host entry with the following
rewrite rule to enable "clean" URLs:
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [R,L,QSA]
This works fine expect the user still sees the "ugly" URL in the address
bar. However, if I remove the R, it breaks completely. Any clues? I

Script Needed! Will pay
Hello Everyone
I need to restore 1 server to another and need a script
Heres what I would like to do is restore a server from #1 to #2
* Rsync the following files and folders to server2 from server1 exactly where they are on server1 so /etc/file.conf on server1 goes to /etc/file.conf on server2
* They need to keep the same permissions and owner/group as well
* I was thinking

almost printing
Ok, I've managed to print to my HPDeskjet 694c attached to a Solaris 8 box
running samba 2.2.2 from Win98. Problem is with the left margin, there are
these little lines (garbage) running down the 1st column on the left side
of the page. Also, when I print a page from Word 97, the whole page doesn't
print (about 95% of it) and starts a little too far down the page. Printing

Replicated Failover Domain Controller and file server using LDAP

thought I'd post my results from following your notes when trying to replicate my Samba PDC onto a Samba BDC as seen here

everything seemed to work as described until I got into the 'Initialization LDAP Database' and preloading the edited "preload-differentialdesign.ldif" file, kept getting a failure from

Centos 7 Samba - all shares read only
I few weeks back my server started having a problem where all shares are now
readonly. AFAIK nothing has changed except a 'yum update' which was probably
around the same time.
Everyone still has the shares on their Win7 PC's and can see the contents.
However, if they try to open a file it opens read only. If the try to create
a new file (e.g. right click -> New -> Text

Problem backing up read-only files
I have a PC on which I run Windows XP and Cygwin 1.5. To this is
attached an HP Media Vault mv2120 via Ethernet through a switch.
I can copy files back and forth between the XP machine and the
Media Vault, so that much seems to work fine.
I would like to use rsync to back up some of the files on the XP
machine to the Media Vault. This seems to work as it should as long
as the files have write

Hi people, sorry for the previous HTML stuff, I hope this time it's plain
text. Here's my problem:
I'm not sure if this is a samba/solaris problem or a Win98 problem and I'll
tell you why. I have a Solaris 8 server running samba 2.2.2, a linux/samba
2.0.7 box and a couple Win 98 boxes. When I did a complete restore of my
Win98 box from tape, I could no longer access the Solaris
