Couldn't set transaction log view (seq 9..13)
Hello, I'm using 2.2.13 on Debian stable, and I perform regular dsync backups. Typically if there is an error, dsync can recover from it the next time it is run, but I've been encountering a new error that doesn't seem to self-heal: # /usr/bin/dsync -u gae backup ssh -i /root/.ssh/id_rsa backmaildir at internal.example /usr/bin/dsync -u micah dsync-remote(micah): Error:

mkstemp fails but data still transferred
Hi all, I'm running rsync version 2.6.3 protocol version 28 on Solaris 8 and am having a problem. We have some scripts that wrap around rsync and generate a list of files to transfer from the sending system (regardless of whether that directory exists on the receiver). I was expecting rsync to fail when transferring files with a path that doesn't exist on the receiver (in fact

More on bind_dlz - documentation I have not found
In the shower this morning, I realized that samba's dlz is through its ldap interface, probably through dhcp. :) All of that work researching how to set up a dlz database for naught. This is NOT documented in either: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/DNS or https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configure_BIND_as_backend_for_Samba_AD I have not yet checked any ldap documentation on the wiki to

Missing dependencies in pkg installs
I had the same thought in the shower this morning but I was disappointed to find that SElinux was disabled on the system. My next step will be to install a previous version of R on the system. My problem is that I am planning a shiny server installation and at least half of the apps on the current system depend on these libraries that will not install. -- W. Michael Conklin EVP Marketing &

[LLVMdev] [RFC] Stripping unusable intrinsics
Ok… I bit. Alex’s proposal here is really compelling to me because it means that the required changes to make this work would be more limited. Specifically a clang attribute could give us all the benefits of #ifdefs throughout the code without the maintenance burden. So, being the silly person I am, I wrote the patches for clang. I’ve never done any frontend hacking before, so take these with

dsync replication errors
Hi I'm trying to build a cluster of two servers with dsync replication (based on http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Replication). My test setup works fine for very simple tests, I can log in to both servers, copy a message to one of the servers and it successfully apperars in the other account. But, if I try to copy a large amount of messages at once to one of the accounts, my maillogs get flodded with

Graceful degradation of signal
Hello all. In the shower the other day (where most of this sort of musing gets done, eh?) I was thinking about graceful degradation of audio signals. Let me apologise in advance if these are elementary concepts or if I demonstrate a complete lack of insight -- I don't rate even a dabbler status in the area of audio codecs. Anyway: If we have a 128kbs signal coming down a *udp* channel with

Hardware - no way -Re: Crashes maybe due to: "error writing 4 unbuffered bytes"
Dear JW, I spent hours checking and upgrading my hardware. There is nothing wrong with it. It is a 'mature' Pentium-II 400MHz system that has been running my servers WITHOUT ANY CRASHES for nearly 2 years now 24/7 Listen to me: "The crashes are dues to rsync" There is an IDENTICAL report from a totally different source at

Oh, boy, this is great. Anyone here want to get paid for doing some camping work? Because O''Reilly is interested in doing a 20-30 page PDF on Camping. Please do it, guys. I won''t blab about how much it pays, but if it took you a couple days, you''d get back a hacka lot of moaney. Anyway, post your camping paid gigs, people. If we could have one guy in the world

./tools/wineinstall
Great work, but I have a suggestion: Near the end of the install I get the following message: "Could not stat /mnt/fd0 (No such file or directory), ignoring drive A:" would not `grep /dev/fd0 /etc/fstab | awk '{print $2}'` have been a more sensible default? or perhaps something a little more clever that takes account of zip drives etc? dataframe package
A new 'dataframe' package is on CRAN. This is a modified version of the data frame code in R, modified to make fewer copies of the inputs and run faster, e.g. as.data.frame(a vector) makes 1 copy of the vector rather than 3, data.frame(a vector) makes 3 copies rather than 6, and x[, "a"] <- newValue makes (2,2,1) copies of (old data frame, new column, integer vector of

testing file uploads
Hi all, I was wondering about the class used when rails receives file uploads. Sometimes it appears to be a File, and other times it is a StringIO. Also it has methods such as original_filename that don''t appear to belong to either of these classes. I ask because I''m trying to work out how to test my fil upload related models and controllers. Is there some standardised way of

Missing dependencies in pkg installs SOLVED
So apparently (being a linux novice) I didn't realize it was insufficient to simply have the file marked as executable. It turns out the default TMP directory on my machine is mounted with a noexec flag so no files in that directory are allowed to be executed. The solution is to set an environment variable TMPDIR=some new directory I created (eg. /home/myusername/tmp) Then R uses that
