Embedded From_ lines breaking Content-Length (and Dovecot)
I feel like I'm going totally crazy. Is it just me, or have embedded
From_ lines really been breaking mbox messages since (at least)
dovecot 1.0? I found a whole lot of broken messages in an old mailbox
of mine and when I looked closer at it, it seemed like Dovecot was
ignoring the Content-Length header and truncating the messages at the
first embedded From_ line instead. Figuring

Overriding inbox= in userdb extra fields
Hello,
I'm trying to set up an alternate user with a different inbox using passwd-file and userdb extra fields and the extra field settings don't seem to be taking effect. I've used auth_debug and mail_debug and I'm unclear how I can further troubleshoot this.
Is it possible to have inbox=yes in one namespace globally and then override this for one user by setting inbox=no for

how to best import Evolution/Thunderbird mail into dovecot?
Hi.
I'm migrating all my mail archive (some 60 GB) from Evolution (which is
really a broken piece of software) into dovecot.
Now I face the problem how to do this best...
Evolution (which is still a old 2.32.x version) itself uses mbox files,
in a special hierarchical structure to allow subfolders and that like.
It also stores it's own status info in X-Evolution and

Deliver, sendmail & envelope From_
Sorry, couldn't find this in the archives.
Under freebsd 4.x, the native mail.local that sendmail uses by
default writes From_ lines that include the origin address. This
is very readily parsable and handy for quick greps in mboxes. But
deliver defaults it to MAILER-DAEMON. I see you can specify the
envelope From_ with "-f", but I'm not sure how that's useful.

Problem with rc10
I just upgraded our test server from rc6 to rc10...
ISSUE #1
I noticed that we no longer are getting two "From_" lines. However, the
one that was good (had the original sender e-mail address) is now gone.
The one with "dovecot.deliver" remains.
I attempted to add "-d test" to the mailbox_command line in main.cf as follows:

Slightly OT : Maildir format (silly) questions
Hello,
I was asking what was the motivation for not having the envelope From in the
Maildir format, as defined in the qmail spec :
"The message is delivered without an extra UUCP-
style From_ line, without any >From quoting, and without an
extra blank line at the end."
which may sound silly since we lose an important piece of information.
Same question about the motivation in

Changing or Adding a Line to the Extensions.conf in Asterisk
I have a Asterisk PBX System with Redhat Linux Fedora 4, Webmin version
1.400 and I am simply trying to configure into the "Extensions.conf"
script an entry that will add to the "Auto-Attendant" a line that will
allow a "Caller" to enter a "0" (Zero) will then ring the extension(s)
of the "Operator" to speak directly with the "OPERATOR"

BUG in RC10 deliver using mbox format
After recently adding the -f parameter to the call to the deliver command
which is called by Postfix, I found that e-mail with a null return path
(MAIL FROM:<>) was causing Dovecot deliver to SEGFAULT. I verified this
by making this patch to deliver.c (notice I fixed a typo here, too):
*** deliver.c.orig Fri Oct 13 07:32:28 2006
--- deliver.c Fri Oct 27 21:26:08 2006

dovecot, procmail and deliver

Hitherto we have used UW-IMAP on a "farm" of Linux machines mounting NFS
from a NetApp. (The UW-IMAP author doesn't like use of NFS, but with
careful use of NFS mount arguments ('noac,actimeo=0' etc.) and trying to
ensure that all activity for a given user takes place within one machine
in the farm, we seem to

1.0.rc8 released
I've still over 200 mails unread in the mailing list, and important
things left in TODO. This release is an improvement over rc7 anyway,
hopefully I'll have time to fix the rest soon.

instead of the spamassassin one but i thought someone might be kind
enough to help anyway.
TIA
I'm trying to do site-wide spam filtering with a public namespace but
it's not reading the folder i have in the public namespace

Authentication problems after upgrading to 3.0.23c
Hi there,
Since upgrading our debian sarge boxes to 3.0.23c, we have found that we
are unable to connect to shares using the official hostname of the
servers (short or fully qualified) but can still use its netbios aliases
(again, short or fully qualified). As nothing else has changed in our
configuration, I think that the change of behaviour is down to the newer
release and can find nothing in

No, not passwords should be rejected.

Where is the definition that passwords have to be atomic? And if it is there, it should be changed.

syncing imap servers with imapsync
hello list,
I am attempting to sync two imap servers using the imapsync perl script. It seems handy and easy.
Here's what happens when I try to do this:

looking for IMAP testing tool
I'm looking for an IMAP testing tool, suitable to use with Dovecot IMAP. It
needs to support TLS, STARTTLS, and login/authentication. It needs to be
able run from command line, shell scripts, and even do so under cron jobs
(e.g. a way to supply the password to use w/o a terminal prompt). Typical
interactive mail clients just don't cut it (even the text mode ones). One
reason is I need

[NetBIOS] Registering new name?
Hello
I'm having a hard time finding information about NetBIOS. Maybe someone
here has good experience with this API, so I figured I could try asking
here, although the question is specifically on how to use NetBIOS in an
all-Windows LAN from Visual Basic :-/
I'm trying to register a new name on a server so that clients can locate it
by broadcasting its NetBIOS name.
At this point,

enough that it is convincing people to learn Ruby just so that they
