Dovecot vs MBox
I'm still in the "what's wrong" stage of figuring out what's going on.
But I've got a mail user who isn't getting new messages.
Postfix accepts it and drops it in the users mbox. [This is verified.
If I tail the Mbox, I can see the new messages.]
"Mail" will see the messages too.
But dovecot doesn't seem to know they exist. I don't think the MBox

smb.conf for Windows clients
So, I'm trying to paw through the long set of smb.conf options - and
it's rather daunting.
I'm wondering what smb.conf options are most
important/appropriate/common for mostly Windows XP/7/(possibly v8) clients.
TIA

GPO / Sysvol problems
So, some updates.
I started that email a couple of hours ago - but suddenly, without changing a thing, the test client/station is suddenly now getting the correct GPO details.
Yet, I've not synced the sysvol or done anything to change or update the GPO on either DC.

SMB share access for machines which are not joined to the domain?
Hmmm...
Use the netbios name, instead of a FQDN, perhaps?
i.e.: \\cns-bio-krak1\emtifs
[I'm assuming the NB name. If I'm wrong, correct it.]
I know I've done this with Windows DC shares, and I'm 99% certain I've done it with FreeNAS acting as a domain member. [Samba domain member.]
I haven't done it with 18.04 / 4.7.6 - but can't see why it should be different.

doveadm sync backup from old to new server
So that was really helpful for me to understand that a lot more clearly.
Thanks! [Many, many thanks @Plutocrat!!]
But I'm still getting a similar failure.
Let me give the command I'm using.
doveadm backup -D -u user at abc.net \
ssh root at po.abc.net \
docker exec b3093cxxxxxx doveadm sync -D -u user at abc.net
The "local" server is where the data/mail currently is.

Namespace problem? duplicated folders...
Interesting.
While I don't use mbox (dbox or maildir) I wouldn't think that would
matter. Your namespace layout looks nearly the same as my own. But to
verify what's going on - post the output of "doveconf namespace".
Possibly just reviewing that output may tell you enough - otherwise
share it (fully) here.

Setting up new samba-ac-dc on Ubuntu 18.04 - KDC not FOUND
Top posting, because I'm lazy. :)
I'm not at all sure this is correct, but...
...this sounds like a DNS resolution problem, and it may be related to systemd.resolved.
Louis did a walk-through on 18.04 AD setup a while back - it might be worth finding and reading.
While Louis left systemd-resolved alone, and did some trickery to work with it, I have opted to disable systemd-resolved. [I

Yeah, I tried that already - and it seems to crash more badly...

Samba4: where are ACLs stored?
Hi,
most file access rights sync between ACLs of linux and the security tab
of windows file properties, but not all. Where are the other infos stored?
I tried in linux 'getfattr -d' and 'samba-tool ntacl get', but neither
output changed when using windows to add individual right for a user
that already has rights inherited from the parent directory. Windows

RSAT Hang
Hi Gregory,
On the questions.
> Is there a good reason to avoid Samba internal DNS?
No, imo not, but i only use bind9_dlz because i need bind in my lan for other setups also.
I just used my RSAT on my win7 64b, but at my point it works fine.
I do have questions to get a better impression of the setup.
Whats the os your using with RSAT and did u use DOM\Administrator or an other account?

DC disaster recovery
Yeah, I could setup an extra XCP box - but at smaller setups, it really seems like overkill.
So, it sounds like restores of the VM work "fine."
How often do machine accounts reset their passwords?
[This is the one that is most likely to be problematic. Rejoining the domain means a new profile. And that's a big PITA on the client side.]
User password changes can simply be handled by

pblms with samba 2.X /3.x and NT--W2k
There is OBVIOUSLY something wrong somewhere.
EITHER a WHOLE bunch of us are stupider than we thought, the documentation left off a step, or there is something SO blatently obvious that we are ALL staring it in the face and missing it inches in front of our faces.
This is exactly what I've had, (BUT I *D*I*D* have it running ok ...)
and I STILL havent figured it out yet,...

Samba4 on Ubuntu 18.04 Howto setup ADDC with bind9_DLZ (extra part 4.8.1 samba)
Hai Gregory,
No problem, now netplan, but i cant tell you much about netplan out of experiance, i've never used it.
But what is it exact you want to know??
The how and why i configure like this is already a bit explained.
about this part:

DDNS / DHCPd && Internal DNS or BIND_DLZ
So, I don't see much on the Wiki [actually nothing] and the relevant
threads on the issue are few.
So, let me try to outline what appears to be the current state of
things and if I'm wrong, please correct me.
Running DHCPd on the Samba 4 server works fine.
Doing DDNS [dynamic DNS] updates can work with the BIND9_DLZ setup,
but not the internal DNS setup.
However, if the connecting Samba

Samba4 manpages
Hi all,
im trying to setup Samba4 as dc.
Ive downloaded the source and did a make && make install but after that i
do not have any manpage.
Ive found it in samba-4.0.5/docs/manpages but how can I install it ?
How are shares handled in Samba4 ?
Before I have used:
[share]
valid users = @sharegroupname
but the AD has only virtual users, how do I share folders for a group or a
user ?

Samba 4.1.0
I am using samba 4.1.0 on Fedora 19 x64. I compiled from source and
provisioned from scratch. I joined the domain with a Windows 7 Pro x64
machine. I do see the shares on the server, but I do not have the security
tab to set permissions on the folders. The unix filesystem rights are set to
root:root to 770. I do not know what the problem is. I did not experience

Kristyan (and all)
I just searched the samba website,
and I couldnt find any reference to spnego except for a slide show (samba-lwny.ag ) that I can't open.
ANYWAY. since I can't find any reference to the spnego parameter, could someone explain what it is, what it does, and HOW it can help us "stupid" people? It doesnt seem to be a parameter I've come across before..
