Mac client to freenx?
Now that Mac lion/mountain lion versions of OSX don't support the old powerpc binaries like the NX 3.5 client any more, what is the best approach to connect to freenx on Centos - the new 'nxplayer' from nomachine.com, opennx, or something else? Google seems to show mixed opinions and quirks with each. -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

SSH + VNC
I am trying to log into a desktop that is running CentOS 4.2 by tennelling VNC through SSH.. The desktop auto-logins a user, then sits there waiting for me to login. On the client side, I fire up SSH tunneling ssh -L 8000:127.0.0.1:5900 The client spits back the error vncviewer: ConnectToTcpAddr: connect: Connection refused Unable to connect to VNC server The server says channel 5: open

VNCsever not starting at boot
When I run system-config-services, it shows vncserver set to start at boot. in /etc/inittab I have init 3 vncserver does not start at boot. I log in on the console as root and service vncserver start and it starts with some warning messages about bad display name in "add" command, but I do not see where these are logged to copy them into this message. Once I start it from the

Vncserver not serving up my gnome desktop, just a fancy terminal!
I have the vncserver running on CentOS 4, but when I log in using vncviewer from another box, I don't see my gnome desktop, just a fancy terminal. I suspect I need to edit the ~/.vnc "xstartup file, but what do I add to fix this. On all other distros I have tried, the vncserver serves up my gnome desktop by default. -- Lee Parmeter Emperor, linXos - The Flying Penguin

vnc servers do not run
Hi all, I have Xen 3.0.3 installed on Debian Etch 4.0. The problem I have with it is that vncservers are not run for guest domains (also Etch), nomatter I specify vfb = [ ''type=vnc'' ], or not. Does Xen 3.0.3 support vnc frame buffers, or do I have to upgrade Xen? I know that Xen 3.1 creates vncservers with no problems. Thanks _______________________________________________

VNC server not reponding to external requests
Hello everyone: I tried following the instructions on this page to set up a VNC server: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server I can telnet to port 5901 from the machine itself: # telnet 127.0.0.1 5901 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to 127.0.0.1. Escape character is '^]'. RFB 003.008 But, when I try to connect to it from the outside world, I get a connection timeout. My

xterm clones on VNC problem
I've been scratching my head over this one after setting up VNC on another existing server. Followed the instructions here http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server as usual. It worked initially. However since this server is going to be installed in a rather inconvenient place and having done pretty stupid things before, I decided for the first time to try the portion that says # Add the

opennx wants to replace nxclient on all my CentOS 6 servers
Looks like opennx appeared in the extras repository some time recently. Because the extras repository is enabled by default, all of the servers where I have nxclient installed are showing opennx as available which will obsolete nxclient. I went ahead and upgraded on my laptop but the resulting opennx installation didn't launch properly. I'm now modifying my yum configurations

vnc server
I followed these instructions, http://egopoly.com/archives/2006/09/how_to_use_vnc.html to successfully connect to my centos 5.1 box. I assumed I could #chkconfig vncserver on to make this permananet but when I tried to #service vncserver start I got the message no desktop configured. Can anyone point me in the right direction to have vncserver run at startup? Thanks! jlc

VNC on Optimus systems (is|may be) broken
Hello! I'm investigating a case where x11vnc (or RealVNC server or vino) on a _real_ X11 server seems to be broken with any VNC viewer. By broken I mean: it seems to keep old frames in memory, in such a way that in every three frames, two are from the past and one is the current one. This is easily spotted when using gnome-shell and looking at the clock at the top. Besides being

wiki - vnc -gerald and walsh, update?
To GeraldClark and PjWelsh, I have centos 6 and used your guide to get it going with vnc. First of all thanks for putting that up, so many techs told me I did not have to install a desktop to make it work and they were so wrong. http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server Using centos 6 I found some differences and wanted to post them here to see if anything helps clear it all up. VNC & GDM & runlevel 3
Has anybody been able to get this to work ? I have been trying multiple options until now but all give me the empty crappy desktop with black cross display... I have tried changing the server_args in the xinetd config, but that makes a connection and exits straigt away... On 1 box it works in runlevel 5, but that is obvious (IMHO)... CentOS 6.3 - KDE login screen configuration problems
Hello, We generally use CentOS for some servers, and so do not use a GUI interface. However, I have recently installed CentOS 6.3 onto a PC with KDE. I am familiar with KDE as I use it with Fedora for my work PC. The problem is that we would like to configure the login screen, so that it does not show the user list, that it does not allow the shutdown or reboot commands (from the login screen),
