how to bread while loop reading from connection with read.csv
Hello, I'm trying to read a file rows at a time, so as to not read the entire file into memory.? When reading the "connections" and "readLines" help, and "R help archive," it seems this should be possible with read.csv and a file connection, making use of the "nrows" argument, and checking where the "nrow()" of the new batch is zero rows.

Rprofile.site under Windows 7?
Hello All: I'm still unable to get Rprofile.site to set, e.g., options(max.print=222), as I did with previous versions of R. I just found similar questions posed by Trevor Miles and Ross Bowden with replies by Uwe Ligges and Duncan Murdoch. In addition to the things I tried documented below, I also copied Rprofile.site into "R_HOME/etc/i386" and

Rprofile.site in R 2.15.0 on Windows?
Hello: I have so far failed to get Rprofile.site to be processed in R 2.15.0 under Windows 7 as I remember having done it in previous version of R. For example, I've included "options(max.print=222)" in "R_HOME/etc/Rprofile.site" (with and without the environmental variable R_HOME set to the install directory of R 2.15.0 in advanced system settings): When I

R CMD check: Sys.getenv("R_GSCMD") cannot contain full pathname (contrary to docs)
Hi, in help("R_GSCMD") it says "R_GSCMD: Optional. The path to Ghostscript, used by dev2bitmap, bitmap and embedFonts. Consulted when those functions are invoked.". However, if 'R_GSCMD' contains a full pathname to the Ghostscript executable (as above "path" indicates), e.g. > Sys.getenv("R_GSCMD") [1] "C:\\Program

Multiple rms summary plots in a single device
I would like to incorporate multiple summary plots from the rms package into a single device and to control the titles, and also to open a new device when I reach a specified number of plots. Currently I am only getting a single "plot(summary(" graph in the upper left- hand corner of each successive device. However, in the rms documention I see instances of a loop being used with

error calling Winbugs using R2WinBugs to run a multi-level model
Dear all, I'm calling Winbugs (1.4.3) through R2WinBugs (2.1-18 coda_0.14-7) to fit a switching random walk model, but come up with an instant trap with the log only displaying 'check('. I will paste the trap with session info below; I'd be very grateful for any ideas. Couple of leads: 1. I presume the problem relates to the r package itself or the way I call bugs(), because I

anova of lme objects (model1, model2) gives different results depending on order of models
Hello- I understand that it's convention, when comparing two models using the anova function anova(model1, model2), to put the more "complicated" (for want of a better word) model as the second model. However, I'm using lme in the nlme package and I've found that the order of the models actually gives opposite results. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be the case

A warning in gzcon but not in gzfile
Hi all, I used `gzfile` and `gzcon` to read a compressed file but I found that `gzcon` gave me a different result than `gzfile`. It seems like the `gzcon` does not handle the data correctly. I have posted an example below. In the example, a portion of a compressed file is downloaded from Google Cloud as a raw vector, and the data is saved into a temp file. If I use ` gzfile` to read the file, it

I originally read in the file with: library(foreign) myData <- read.dta("mydata.dta") I then exported it with write.table using comma, tab, and exclamation marks as a delimiter. When I was unable to

readLines without skipNul=TRUE causes crash
So you are saying there are two problems... one that produces a corrupt file from a valid compressed file, and one that segfaults when presented with that corrupt file? Can you please confirm the file name and run md5sum on it and share the result so we can tell when the file problem has been reproduced? -- Sent from my phone. Please excuse my brevity.
