Looking for transformation to overcome heterogeneity ofvariances
Peter You question is difficult to answer without more information about the distribution of your residuals. Different residual patterns call for different transformations to stabilize the variance. One very common form of heterocedasticity is increasing variance with increasing values of an independent predictor, i.e. the variance of the residuals of y=x increase as x increases. In this case a

Looking for transformation to overcome heterogeneity of variances
Dear All My data consists in 96 groups, each one with 10 observations. Levene's test suggests that the variances are not equal, and therefore I have tried to apply the classical transformations to have homocedasticity in order to be able to use ANOVA. Unfortunately, no transformation that I have used transforms my data into data with homocedasticity. The histogram of variances is at

Kruskal's MDS results
Dear List, I'm trying to interpret the results of the Kruskal's Non-metric Multidimensional Scaling algorithm (isoMDS, MASS package). The 'goodness of fit' is reported as "The final stress achieved (in percent)". What does this mean exactly? I've tried to google for an answer but I've not come up with a definitive answer. How to plot image of contour in percent?
I have searched this forum with keywords contour and percent, it only give one irrelevent result. My problems is how to plot contour in percent. In my figure, I have use kde2d to generate density of an array with two dimension point. Using image and contour could plot it. But the line contour generated represent absolute value of population, not how much pecent point within this cycle. So, i there

percent rank by an index key?
What is the easiest way to calculate a percent rank “by” an index key? Foe example, I have a dataset with 3 fields: Year, State, Income , I wish to calculate the rank, by year, by state. I also wish to calculate the “percent rank”, where I define percent rank as rank/n. (n is the number of numeric data points within each date-state grouping.) This is what I am

Windrose Percent Interval Frequencies Are Non Linear! Help!
Hi All - I have been using the windrose function found in the circular library to create great looking windroses.  But the dashed, circular percent interval lines that indicate the frequency at which each "pedal" occurs are not evenly spaced (the corresponding parameter is "cir.ind").  That is, the 5% interval closest to the heart of the windrose is wider than the 5-10 chuck,

Get a percent variable based on group
Dear all, I'd like to get a percentage variable based on a group, but without creating a new data frame. For example: data(iris) iris$percent <-unlist(tapply(iris$Sepal.Length,iris$Species,function(x) x/sum(x, na.rm=TRUE))) This does not work, I should have only three standard values, respectively for setosa, versicolor, and virginica. How can I do this? MANY THANKS, Karine

Survplot, Y-axis in percent
Hi I am a new fan of R after getting mad with the graphical functional in SPSS. I have been able to create a nice looking Kaplan Meyer graph using Survplot function. However I have difficulties in turning the y axis to percent instead of the default 0-1 scale. Further I have tried the function yaxt="n" without any results. Any help in this matter will be appreciated. The code is

How do I quote a percent sign in the text of a template?
Hi I am scratching my head on this not being a ruby person... I am turning my kickstart files into templates, but am having issues with percent signs in free form text. This returns a syntax error: %post OK, fine , let me escape it: %%post No error, but the end result is %%post Not quite what I wanted I''m missing something blindingly obvious - can someone point me to it? :-)

Periodic regression - lunar percent cover
Dear List, I am trying include a lunar variable in a model and am having problems figuring out the correct way to include it. I want to convert the percent lunar illumination (fraction of moon showing) to a combination of sin and cos variables to account for the periodic nature of the lunar cycle. Would someone let me know if I am doing this correctly? I have included the first 20 variables

Heteroscedasticity in a percent-cover dataset
Hi, I am currently trying to do a GLMM on a dataset with percent cover of seagrass (dep. var) and a suite of explanatory variables including algal (AC) and epiphyte cover (EC), rainfall, temperature and sunshine hours. M2=glmer(SG~AC+EC+TP+SS+RF+(1|Location/fSi/fTr), family=binomial,data=data,nAGQ=1) As the dependent variable is percent cover, I used a binomial error structure. I also have a

percent sign in plot annotation
Hello, I would like to annotate a graph with the expression 'alpha = 5%' (the alpha should be displayed as the greek letter). I tried > text(1,1,expression(alpha == 5%)) which gives a syntax error. escaping the percent sign (\%) or doubling (%%) does not help. What do I do? Percent damage distribution
R version: 2.7.0 Running on: WinXP I am trying to model damage from fire losses (given that the loss occurred). Since I have the individual insured amounts, rather than sampling dollar damage from a continuous distribution ranging from 0 to infinity, I want to sample from a percent damage distribution from 0-100%. One obvious solution is to use runif(n, min=0, max=1), but this does not seem to be
