CentOS 6 - Support for CanoScan LiDE 210
Hi folks,
for some time I used a HP 2840 AiO device, connected via LAN, to scan
documents. As scanning application I use xsane. I want to replace that
HP scanner by a CanoScan LiDE 210.

Hi from Z?rich,Schweiz and a hot , humid day.
The SCANNER,Canoscan LiDE 600F,is not detected by XSANE/SIMPLE SCAN.
It is probably detected :- here is the OUTPUT from TERMINAL COMMAND "sane-find-scanner -v"

VLC package(s) for C6 ?
Hi listees!
Just installed C6 (more or less) permanently on my eeepc.
I've enabled rpmfusion non-free, rpmfusion free, elrepo, and epel,
prior to this point I've been running fedora on it (f10 thru f14)
and have always found VLC at rpmfusion.
(but finally RHEL/Centos have become modern enough to support the
eeepc's funky hardware, so I'm switching back--tired of the version

Simple scan in CentOS 7
I just installed C7 on a new computer and despite Simple Scan being installed as part of C7, I have not been able to get it to recognize my Canon scanner connected to a USB port. I did have it running on another computer with C7 so there should not be any inherent issues.
On a lark I installed gscan2pdf and sane-backends-drivers-scanners and sane-find-scanner found it:

Firefox 7 vs latest Flash plugin vs CNN
I'm seeing a strange issue on my C-5.7 system.
running Firefox 7 with the very latest flash plugin.
browse to CNN, I can view any of the videos directly linked on the main
page, or directly linked on sub-pages.
but if I click on the video link at the top of the page (in the red bar)
Firefox displays the page as a list of "thumbnails" for each video with

Count of unique factors within another factor
I have a data frame with two factors (sampling 'unit', 'species'). I want to
calculate the number of unique 'species' per 'unit.' I can calculate the
number of unique values for each variable separately, but can't get a count
for each ?unit?.

Canon scanner LiDE 220
This scanner is supported according to the SANE page, but doesn't work
on my up-to-date C7 system (updated 20 minutes ago). The Canon web site
is as expected - as useful as a chocolate tea pot.
Has anyone managed to get this to run, and if so can you share the
secret please.

Using Pulse Audio--question
Hi all!
This seems to me as if it should be a trivial thing to do, but so far
I've wasted a lot of time on it and gotten nowhere:
I want to feed audio from a source (ipod, other player) into the audio
input on my C7 box via either the phone jack or an external USB sound
"card" I have, then I want to play it via the speakers connected to the
system.
I can find no way to do it with
