Samba 4 "Services for UNIX"? [SOLVED]
To get the automount schema to work with the git checkout of samba 4 I had to modify the automount schema files and separate the attributes from the classes. I also discovered that it's required to have the ntSecurityDescriptor , instanceType, and objectCategory attributes. Without these it will crash whenever you try to browse... I did alot of stopping samba, tarring of /usr/local/samba and

DNS: Migrate from BIND9_FLATFILE to SAMBA_INTERNAL (Samba 4.1.17)
Dear all, I have a few question regarding to DNS and upgrading from Samba 4.1.17 to 4.4.2. After reading about the Badlock Bug, I feel the urge to upgrade my Samba installation and to move from BIND9_FLATFILE to SAMBA_INTERNAL_DNS. I am using Samba version 4.1.17. During provisioning (some years ago) I have decided to use BIND9_FLATFILE. At this moment I would like to upgrade to Samba 4.4.2 and

I am planning up upgrading my AD/DC from Samba version 4.8.2 to the most recent version in my Slackware distro which is currently 4.15.13. In previous threads in this maillist I was advised that the best route to achieve this was to add a 2nd domain controller, then promote that one and demote the original. I'm in the process of setting up a 2nd DC to that end. I thought I ask questions as I

Deprecation of NONE DNS backend
Hi, I'm curious about this remark on the wiki[1] : "do NOT use NONE as the DNS backend, it is not supported and will be removed in a future Samba version." Why is this being removed? I would prefer to manually add the records that would be generated by BIND9_FLATFILE to my domain's zone file. We have automation that controls records in the domain's zone file that I

dns/ad domain provisioning and naming
Can work if you use provisioning with BIND9_FLATFILE anyway i tested that long time ago.. but then you wil be missing the "Multimaster" dns ability. Hai, ? i was reading: ? http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO#Testing_DNS? which stats : Don't use BIND9_FLATFILE! It's not documented and supported!? ? This is wrong imo.? ? bind9_flatefile works fine, it just does not support multi master dns, and bind9_DLZ does. so you must setup a master/slave setup for bind9 with flatfile ? If you need to run a network with

BIND9_FLATFILE to BIND9_DLZ | Error parsing DNS data from '/opt/samba/private/dns/th01.inet.zone' ()
Hi all, I got some issues with adding DNS records. I still use BIND9_FLATFILE on my first DC. Maybe this is the problem? What I would like to try is to change from BIND9_FLATFILE to BIND9_DLZ. I change the backend from BIND9_FLATFILE to BIND9_DLZ twice (in the past or other servers) but I don't remember how I did this anymore! What I did try is the following... and that didn't work. I

Thanks for the info, At the moment, I don't have more than 1 DC, but I am planning on doing the bind master/slave thing thing soon using the Linux webserver host. With failover, I don't see why that wouldn't work with multiple DCs (but of course haven't tried yet). In any case, our AD/DC also hosts mail and redirected folders do if it goes down we've got big problem anyway --
