VPN Server Recomendations
Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a VPN solution that will run on CentOS. I've used PopTop
with success but some clients have problems at hotels and other firewalled
locations.
If anyone can suggest something that works well with MS 2000/XP, doesn't
require too much tweaking on the client side and is fairly resiliant to
various firewall blocking, I'd be interested in hearing about it.

10 Year old IT Infrastructure
Hi Guys,
I have a client who hopes to keep their server another 5 years making it
10 years old at that time.
At this point there are no plans to add new infrastructure or a new server
to the mix. Their business model is fairly static.
I'd like to see them upgrade. Can anyone suggest specific reasons why
running a business on 10 year old equipment is a bad thing?
Specific arguments I can

Internet Load Balancing and Failover
Hi All,
Does anyone have any experience connecting two or more DSL/Cable modems to
a Linux box to provide load balancing and failover?
I've done some googling and found a few resources but very few solid
experiences.
I'm trying to optimize my LAN->Internet traffic for a bunch of
workstations.

Samba, AD and non AD Machines
Hi All,
I have configured Samba 3.0.23 to work with Active Directory. Based on
all the tests shown here:
http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html#adssdm
Things are working as expected.
Most machines and users are working as expected.
I do have some Windows machines on another subnet, NOT joined to the
domain that are giving me grief. Going to

Problems with 2.3TB disk
Hi Guys,
I have a server running CentOS 4.2 with a 2.6.9-22EL-smp kernel.
The system contains a 2.3 TB RAID 5 array. There is a 20GB root partition
with the remainder of the drive configured one large LVM volume. (/u0)
I have installed Veritas Netbackup on the server and am running a few
tests. Small backups and restores work just fine.
When I run a larger backup (500MB) and store the

ACL Support and Samba
I've been playing with filesystem ACLs and wanted to integrate that with
Samba to create a more transparent end user experiance.
I have set up and tested a JFS partition with ACL support. I can use
getfacl and setfacl with no problems to set permissions as needed. It
works great.
I compiled Samba with ACL support using the --with-acl configure option.
Unfortunately I can't seem to

Modem network card conflict
Hi All,
Here's a strange one for you...
I have a Linux box with a PCMCIA adapter PCI card in it. Plugged into said
card is a cellular modem card.
I can configure wvdial and dial the modem card perfectly. My ppp0
interface comes up and I can ping everything.
I also have a network card on the motherboard. Once again, by itself the
network card works correctly. That is with the modem

Looking for Insights
Hi Guys,
I had a strange problem yesterday and I'm curious as to what everyone
thinks.
I have a client with a Red Hat Enterprise 2.1 cluster. All quality HP
equipment with an MSA 500 storage array acting as the shared storage
between the two nodes in the cluster.
This cluster is configured for reliability and not load balancing. All
work is handled by one node or the other not both.

Wierd problem with file sharing over internet.
I've set up a CIPE VPN, between my notebook computer and my Linux based
firewall. While the VPN generally works well, I've noticed a strange
problem with file sharing from the local network to the notebook. I set
up the VPN, with the idea of accessing my systems at home via a dial up
ISP, to my home network via cable modem. The VPN works well for most
protocols, such as telnet,

multiple select_tag
Hello again,
I have a table called line_items, with the following fields:
id int
item_name varchar()
qty int
conditions text
I''ve made my LineItem model, and everything works as such (with simple
text_fields)..
Now I''d like for the conditions field to be a select_tag() with multiple
choice possibility.
I''m guessing I need some code to expand/restract the array for

MySQL Replication as Load Balancing
Hello:
We will be setting up MySQL replication for a load balanced environment,
but we have to separate reads and writes.
How can we modify rails to do so? Has anyone done this already?
Thank you in advance!

Libvirt mpiexec networking issue
Hi all,
Not sure if this is the best place to put this question since I'm not sure
if it's a Libvirt issue but...
I currently have two VMs up with networking and I can successfully ssh to
and from each VM and I have confirmed that I can successfully download
things from the internet. However, when trying to run mpiexec (which uses
ssh), the connection fails and gives me the following

segfault on Sparc Linux (RH6.0)
We are having problems building R on Red Hat Linux 6.0/Sparc.
R compiles with no problem but then it fails "make tests".
Specifically, the line
eigen(cbind(-1,c(1:2,0),0:2)) # complex values
causes a segmentation fault. Previous versions of Red Hat Linux
did not give this problem.
The eigen() function is one of the rare cases in the base library where
Fortran code is called via the

Inconsistent behavior using 3.1.2 from macOS 10.12.2 to an AFP mount
Hi,
I've been attempting to use rsync 3.1.2 to copy files from a macOS 10.12.2
system to an AFP mounted share. The command I'm using is:
rsync -avAX -M--fake-super ./testDir ./mnt/testDir/
This works fine and all the extended attributes are copied and readable.
I then try to use rsync to copy these files back with:
rsync -avAX --fake-super -M--super ./mnt/testDir/ ./testDir2/
