Need help: R for repetitive tasks
Dear R users, First of all I would like to thank all of you who replayed to my previous questions and problems. Thank you a lot for being great and helpful community. I highly appreciate your suggestions and ideas even if I do not respond after my question! But it means that your help was exactly what I needed. Thank you again! Now the following question I need help: Suppose I do have a

Percentiles with R for a big data.frame
Dear R users, I came up to a problem dealing with percentiles in R. >From my previous questions: I do have a big data.frame, with lots of columns and rows. The following command enables me to calculate means for all data frame. dat1$newID<-rep(1:(nrow(dat1)/12),each=12) #if nrow(dat1)/12 is integer dat2<-with(dat1,aggregate(cbind(dat1[,1:71]),by=list(newID),mean)) What I need is to

confusion on levels() function, and how to assign a wanted order to factor levels, intentionally?
Dear R-helpers, I want to make a series of boxplots on several numeric univariates with two group variables (species and population, population nested in species, and with population as the X-axis). In order to get a proper order of the individual populations in X-axis, I need to assign a wanted order to the factor (population). I used the levels() function to do this assignment, but it seemed

subsetting levels of a vector
Hi, I need to subset different levels of vector in a dataset to create a new dataframe that contains only these. These observations are not numerical, so I can't use the subset() function (at least this is the response I get from R). Suppose the dataframe looks like this:   ParticipID    ERP   Electrode 1         s1  0.0370       FP1 2         s2 35.0654       FP2 3         s3

aggregate function with 'NA'
Dear r-help reader, I have some problems with the aggregate function. My datframe looks like >frame Day Time V1 V2 1 M 0 3 NA 2 M 0 4 NA 3 M 0 5 2 4 M 1 NA 4 5 M 1 10 6 6 T 0 4 45 7 T 1 4 3 8 T 1 3 2 9 T 1 6 1 I used the aggegate function to obtain the mean in V1 and V2 over the grouping variable Time and Day

sprintf error: "only 100 arguments allowed"
I'm trying to apply a function defined in the VW R docs, that attemps to convert a data.table object to Vowpal Wabbit format. In the process i'm getting the error in printf mentioned in the subject. The original function is here: https://github.com/JohnLangford/vowpal_wabbit/blob/master/R/dt2vw.R Below there is a small example that reproduces the error. The function works great with

boxplot with grouped variables
my dataset looked like this in the beginning: >Daten V1 V2 V3 1 Dosis Gewicht Geschlecht 2 0 6.62 m 3 0 6.65 m 4 0 5.78 m 5 0 5.63 m I need box plots for V2 with all combination of V1 and V3, so I deleted the first row, and tried this: boxplot(Daten$V2[Daten$V3=="m"]) but it does not work and I

Data frame reordering to time series
Given a data frame, or it could be a matrix if I choose to. The data consists of an ID, a year, and data for all 12 months. Missing values are a factor AND missing years. add one variable to a data frame
Sarah's solutions are good, and here's another, even more basic: tmp1 <- unique(dat1$B) tmp2 <- seq_along(tmp1) dat1$C <- tmp2[ match( dat1$B, tmp1) ] > dat1 N B C 1 1 29_log 1 2 2 29_log 1 3 3 29_log 1 4 4 27_cat 2 5 5 27_cat 2 6 6 1_log 3 7 7 1_log 3 8 8 1_log 3 9 9 1_log 3 10 10 1_log 3 11 11 3_cat 4 12 12 3_cat 4 As a single line
