samba-tool classicupgrade throws uncaught exception
I have a new server running CentOS 6.4 x64, which will serve as our new
Samba4 server. It is set up in a test environment, and I've copied over the
tdb files and the smb.conf file from our samba3 server (Same OS and
version).
I'm trying to do an in-place upgrade on the copied files, but keep hitting
an assert / uncaught exception during the upgrade:
# /usr/local/samba/bin/samba-tool

Do the mapped unix groups need to be added to the new host before
attempting the upgrade? There is nothing in the docs regarding that.
Am I mistaken in thinking that the AD does not rely on matching or
mapped unix groups

Migration to Samba 4
Testing this "classic upgrade" scenario on a test server and have some
issues. I'm using the Sernet 4.2.1 packages on Debian Wheezy.
I copied the required tdb files and the smb.conf to the new test
server (named WHEEZY). Edited the smb.conf to reflect the new
host/netbios name of WHEEZY (remember that I want to keep the old PDC
in service afterword for file and print sharing duties

Sorry for the long post but attempted this several over the past year
with no success but staying on an NT4 domain is no longer viable. Need
to get this resolved so hopefully there will be a clue somewhere in
this montage.
The current PDC is samba-3.6.25 running on Gentoo using tdbsam backend.
The new AD will be a Debian LXC container running on Debian Jessie
using samba compiled from git

classicupgrade from LDAP - failed to find Unix account for machine account
Hi all,
We have a somewhat crufty Samba 3 PDC NT-style domain backed on to an
OpenLDAP server that we use for both Linux and Windows 7 authentication,
thanks to the magic of ldapsam and smbk5pwd.
I am investigating the feasability of moving to Samba 4 and have tried
upgrading with the classicupgrade tool in both the Samba 4.0.0 packages in
Debian unstable and also with GIT v4-0-stable

Restrict account to only use sftp not working
Hi all,
I'm setting up a system where users will only be able to use "sftp" but not
"ssh" to connect to the server
(http://www.snailbook.com/faq/restricted-scp.auto.html). Here's the setup...
Server: OpenSSH 2.5.2p2-1 on RH Linux
Client: Commercial SSH 2.4 on Solaris
The vendor on the client system creates a key pair and sends it to me. I
then add the vendor's

Issue with computer accounts with classicupgrade
No sorry, really no idea for this.
But i'll try a wild guess...
If you have a test setup, try the following.
keep the computer UIDs and change the user uids.
i did read this somewhere.
samba generates SIDs the same way as you would normally generate GUID's and store them in a database.
maybe this sid change because of the change uid.

Louis

Classic Upgrade: Unable to enumerate group memberships
Hello. I'm using Version 4.0.8-SerNet-Ubuntu-5.precise (Also, a heads up on
this release; the folder /var/run/samba must be created upon reboot. When
starting Samba I get this error:
ERROR: can't open /var/run/samba/samba.pid: Error was No such file or
directory)
So anyway, when trying to do a classic upgrade/migration in order to
preserve authentication information on a new domain. After

ClassicUpgrade => EpicFail
ClassicUpgrade of my samba3 data to samba4 fails, with this error:
ERROR(<class 'passdb.error'>): uncaught exception - Unable to get id for sid
Full log of the classicupgrade is at the end of this email.
Project member on this list, Andrew Barlett, wrote that the issue is probably that my Samba 3 passdb was passable in an NT 4 DC mode, but is actually 'invalid' :
