mbox, hierarchical folders/folders and IMAP
Hello,
I'm now dealing with funny problem. I try to use Dovecot (2.1.rc1,
actually) and mbox format to store old mailing, to keep logic of "one
folder = one file".
If I'd choose Maildir, I'd be able to create hierarchical folders (like
"OldMail -> Maillists -> Dovecot"), and in fact on disk such a folders
would be stored as real folders with dots in

Archiving mail
Hi,
I'm going to migrate my company-mailserver to new hardware. I would like
to take the opportunity to archive some older mail. But I would like to
have it still accessible, would this be possible with dovecot ?
I mean, I would like to put that older mail from different users (I got
about 50 users) on some read-only media but mount that media in the
users mail-dirs. That way I will have

utility to copy/sync IMAP mailboxes
Well, my Dovecot server (v2.0.8) is up and running, and now it's time to
migrate mailboxes from the old mail server [Lotus Domino Release 5.0.8]
running on Windows NT 4.0 [ancient -- been the mail server since Aug-2000].
I saw "dsync(1)" and thought my troubles were over. Only I can't figure
out how to make it work with the NT/Domino server as a source for mailboxes.
I guess

Account Migration Tool
I don't know if this tool already exists, or if not how difficult it would
be to implement, but the following is an excerpt from the man page the
developer needs to write ;) -

and copies the mails to a second IMAP account. This is accomplished using
only IMAP commands and may be used with any IMAP compliant

Hi,
I have set up ImapcProxy based on the wiki2 page.
My server is set up for no plain text auth without starttls.
When I am trying to login in the proxy server, I am getting an error Unknown
username/password.
The log says:

conversion to maildir
is really a royal pain in the butt. most of the conversion tools only do a
partial job. mb2md seems to be the best but it does not convert the from line
correctly unless you are using exim for an MTA. It also does not get the file
status right so everything is written to the new maildir directory. something
else that makes the process painful is when you have folders containing
mailboxes.

kjournald panic in 2.4.20 RedHat 7.2
Hi, If this is a redundant post I apologize. I am running 2.4.20 on what has been
a very stable Athlon machine for months, tried to move a 2 GB file from an ext2
partition to an ext3 and kjournald crashed. Here are the last reminants of my

IMAP proxy for Exchange - encrypted backend Communication?
Hello,
I try to setup a IMAP proxy for my old Exchange server.
Running Dovecot v2.x on Centos 7.
So far I follow http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/ImapcProxy and it seem
to work. The only but major thing is with this setup - the
communication between proxy and backend is not encrypted. :(
To fix this, I changed the config and add:
imapc_ssl=imaps
imapc_port=993
but it doesnt work, because of

pam_start() failed: system error
Hi,
I'm using dovecot 1.1.3 on FreeBSD 6.3, x86, files are on NFS,
except control and index files, which are local, on UFS2. It's
moderately loaded, there are usually not more than 30 clients
simultaneously.
dovecot runs fine for 3-10 days, then people can't connect any
more, and dovecot says:

read only maildir subscriptions
Hello,
I have some (possibly very simple) questions about
subscriptions:
I store my old mails in /home/oldmails/ in one Maildir
where I have only read-only permissions (I cannot delete, create or modify
any files).
Under thunderbird, I can successfully log in and read my new mails,
but I cannot subscribe (?) within thunderbird to oldmails
(it is grey not black as other folders).

Dear sir,
I have to set up a mail gateway which will be explored to Internet and a
secure mail server in the Intranet.
I need a smart imap proxy in the mail gateway which will fetch the mail from
server and present to user through either a stand alone mail client or a web
mail client.
All authentication is through ldap server.

I'm trying to adapt http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/ImapcProxy
to our Exchange Server, which has LOGINDISABLED on Port 143, and I
offering LOGIN on Port 993.
How do I go about this?
Simply changing imapc_port to:

doesnt work:

Moving server
I want to move my home server over to a new machine,
both running CentOS.
(The present server is running CentOS-5.7, the new one 6.0.)
I'm thinking of moving things over one at a time,
starting with email.
I'm running IMAP on the server,
with my email in ~/Maildir/ .
I'm wondering what exactly I need to copy to the new machine?
Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

Fortunately, it just involves reformatting the data and a little
reconmfiguration of dovcot. If you can find the tool and disk space,
it's well worth doing. Of course, when running a proverbial

I have server with IMAP on dovecot for user mails and second server on

I'm wondering if it's possible to make some sort of proxy to these two
servers in way where:

- I want archiveopteryx account to be something like shared folder with
read only access (no delete, no move, etc) in path

IMAPC feature description
Hi,
I couldn't find any decent documentation about the IMAPC feature.
Could someone please explain the purpose of this feature?
In particular, what are the differences between IMAPC and reverse proxying?
Thanks.
