R on Tru64 OSF 5.1
Has anyone achieved a current successful build of R 1.8 or 1.9 or earlier for HPUX Tru 64 OSF 5.1? There is no binary version of R for HPUX Tru 64 OSF 5.1. The R admin manual mentions that the native make fails on "Alpha/OSF (aka Tru 64)" and gnu make must be used instead. There are problems reported with building R versions around 1.4 from 2002 on R-devel, some of which were fixed with

Help with SSH V4.2p1 and netgroups in password file - OSF/1
Hi I'm using either V3.2 or V4.2p1 depending on the system. Server - OSF/1 V5.1 latest patch kit. If the system has all the accounts in the password file - ssh lets the users login. If the system has "+" at the end of the passwd file, users in the local password file or in NIS can login if I change the /etc/svc.conf to have "passwd=local" and add + at users:x:::::

rpart on Alpha under OSF
Running on an Alpha machine which reports (uname -a) OSF1 bsdx01.bs.ehu.es V4.0 878 alpha and using the binary distribution put together by Albrecht Gebhardt (in http://cran.at.r-project.org/bin/osf/osf4.0/tar/alpha_ev5/) I obtain core dumps whenever I try to use package rpart. I have R REMOVE'd the rpart package, downloaded the source rpart_1.0-7.tar from CRAN and

OSF/1 or Tru64 patch for Privsep
Either this never made it to the list or no one cares about Tru64. This is the last time I'll send this patch to the list. If no one steps up and finishes it or provides me with enough information to fix any remaining bugs (one being complaint that 'ssh site cmd' does not work right). If there is no activity on this for a week. I'll post it to bugzilla and will ignore any

Installing R on alpha-dec OSF 4.0
Hi has anyone succeeded in installing R on DEC alpha OSF 4.0 with gcc/g77 ? The PLATFORMS file mentions successful installtion on OSF 3.2 using cc. Privsep for osf/1 .. still need a bit of help
This privsepifies OSF/1 SIA, but I'm still being told the same error occurs. I'm stumped. Without an OSF/1 box near me I can't do too much more help unless someone can either tell me what is wrong or show me why SIA is failing in their logs. (And tell me if it's different w/ or w/out this patch) - Ben Index: auth-sia.c

question re: samba on Digital UNIX 4.0d
Hi everyone, I'm going to try to install samba on a Compaq (Digital) alphaserver 400 running Digital UNIX 4.0d (formerly OSF/1). I've never used samba before. I have been reading the documentation and wonder if anyone can help answer a question or two... The bundled book "Using Samba" (as well as at least one FAQ I believe), suggests I may need to run the configure script using

OSF binary d/l directories
I wasn't entirely sure who to send this to, but I was just wondering why all of the pub/samba/Binary_Packages/OSF directories on all the mirrors are empty? I was having trouble with the configure script of the recent version download on Digital Unix 4.0g and went to check out the specific binaries but nothing's there. I was just curious... thanks. Subject: R 68.3 on OSF V4.0 problems
Hello, With regards to Peter's comment, I got R to compile on OSF 4.0C, though I'm a little behind on versions. I only have 0.63.3 and haven't found anything newer... All kidding regarding typos aside, I went through that floating point exception business on the Alpha and I just didn't have time to make it work. Someone tipped me on to f2c, which I had used with my (old gcc

Compilation problem on OSF/1
PArdon the "newbie" nature of this question, but I *am* a samba newbie I'm trying to compile samba-1.9.18p6 on a DEC Alpha running OSF/1 V3.0 (I know it's old, but I'm stuck with it). I've modified the Makefile as follows... ># Add any optimisation or debugging flags here ># add -DSYSLOG for syslog support >FLAGS1 = -O -std1 -w >LIBS1 = and ># This

R 68.3 on OSF V4.0 problems SOLVED
I wrote about my problems building R-0.63.3 on a Digital Alpha running OSF V4.0D. Thanks to the suggestion Jonathan.Yuen at tvs.slu.se, I tried using the DEC CC compiler instead of gcc, and it worked just fine. (Seeing that I needed gmake to build, it never occured to me to try DEC CC. It seems that you cannot combine DEC F77 with gcc; I do not have g77 to try.) Below is a set of instructions

Tru64 and OSF/1 Privsep patch
Ok.. I need wider testing for this. I'm getting reports back it works mostly. 'ssh site ls' fails, but they can login with Privsep enbled. Can I get those who are using Tru64 or OSF/1 that have SIA enabled to test? This should apple to either -cvs or the current snapshot (I would perfer not to use 3.4p1 due to bugs). I'm going on a trip next week and will be around very spotty

R configure.in makes bad alpha assumptions (PR#1676)
Hi, I was looking at configure.in for R-1.4.1 and in the case "${host_cpu}" in part under alpha CPU's, the switch of -mieee for g77 and -fpe3 otherwise is an OSF specific, not alpha specific issue. In particular, if someone used f2c-f77 (shell script which emulates a fortran compiler with f2c and the c compiler), they'd get the broken -fpe3. I'd probably either test for

R 68.3 on OSF V4.0 problems
I am trying to install R-0.63.3 on a Digital Alpha running OSF V4.0D, and having some difficulties. Can anyone help? Also, I found some "oddities" in the installation process. I expect that this message is read by the developers, maybe some of my suggestions can be incorporated into future releases. Please reply to me directly (as well as possibly also to this mailing list): I am not a
