ZFS, SATA, LSI and stability
After having massive problems with a supermicro X7DBE box using AOC-SAT2-MV8 Marvell controllers and opensolaris snv79 (same as described here: http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-66-233341-1) we just start over using new hardware and opensolaris 2008.05 upgraded to snv94. We used again a supermicro X7DBE but now with two LSI SAS3081E SAS controllers. And guess what? Now we get

log messages to a specific file
I am trying to configure syslog.conf to send messages from one of my hosts to a select file for that host. The host is currently sending messages to the syslog server and they are being logged but I would like to have all the messages from this host go to a separate file. Deadlock with ATA disk on FreeBSD 4.8 Stable
Hi Soeren, We encounter here a deadlock with a quite new ATA 120GB disk. The disk worked good for about 3 weeks, but now we have a strange problem. There seems to be one defective file on the disk. fsck doesn't find it, and if I do a cat file > /dev/null The machine locks completly. Serial console is dead, no remote DDB via ALTBREAK possible anymore, no panic message, just freezed. The

Changes to HOWTO and maybe Samba Guide for Solaris patches
Sun has changed the organization of their web site a lot over the years, and I just noticed that a URL included in the HOWTO is broken now. Perhaps there are others as well. In section 39.6.2 "Winbind on Solaris 9" (p. 503), Solaris 9 users are directed to download a patch from the following URL: http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/findPatch.pl?patchId=112960;rev=14 But the Sun

MFC of reentrant realpath.c
Hi, I've seen that this commit never got MFC'd: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/lib/libc/stdlib/realpath.c?rev=1.14&content-type=text/x-cvsweb-markup Would it be possible to do that or are there any objections out there ? FYI Incompatibilities between recent versions of OpenSSH and Sun SSH
These problem aren't bugs per se but rather major version differences. Sun has finally published a FAQ on their SSH two days ago http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retrieve.pl?doc=finfodoc%2F50465&zone_32 =sshd The problem is rooted in the fact that Sun developed their SSH based on OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 That version came out in February of 2001. There have been a number of changes since then and

IO rate of tar-in, what can we expect on a qcow2 image?
Hi all, We have done several speed tests on a qcow2 Linux Image to test how fast tar-in with a big tarball can be. Virtio seems to be active, and we get transfers in a range from 100-160MB/sec, independent of the disk speed on the host. For example we had a 20 core host system with 900MB for serial writing and 350MB for mixed read/write on the native filesystem. We've expected a faster

suggestions for ANOVA which includes the "year" as a factor
Dear R Fundation, I am a post-doc researcher at the University of Pisa, Italy. I apologize for my english and I have to tell you in advance that I am a very beginner with R. I used R for fitting dose-response curves (drc package) and for an ordinary ANOVA (one, two or three factors), including the post-hoc mean comparison (I used the LSD test...). Now I have to process some simple data on

Question regarding ZFS
Hi gurus, I was playing with zfs in a V890 before it was installed for production. We reinstalled it for production, but the 4 disks We used to play with zfs have a non standard format (slices comes from s0 to s8 not s2 for backup s7 does not exists) We need to recover those 4 disks to be used by Solaris Volume Manager. I know this would be an easy question, but I was trying to fix it

Please remove H.323 from Asterisk (was H.323 support is distrubuted with Asterisk (was Re: chan_oh323.so: Segmentation Fault))
Sheesh. I only joined here a few days ago and already there's a flame war. Look, to remove your name from the list is easy. It tells you where to go to manage your subscription down there at the bottom. If you want another mailing list, why not go to yahoo!! or topica and set one up, or set one up yourself. It ain't rocket science with mailman. Even an idiot like me has managed it.

Java JDK on CentOS 4.4
I did not choose Java when I installed CentOS 4.4 and I want to install a JDK to do Java programming. What is the default Java JDK for CentOS 4.4 ? I see under YumEx very little which looks like a Java JDK. Is there one in the distribution ? Is there a way to get Sun's latest JDK 5 installed safely and successfully on CentOS 4.4, perhaps via an RPM for it tailored to CentOS 4.4, or should
