libvorbis 1.2.1 RC2
Hello list, As some of you may have noted, the release of libvorbis 1.2.1 was put on hold, I reckon due to the possible unavailability of the main developer to review certain patches to solve issues found recently in libvorbis. So, why not ask help from the community to speed up this process? This is what this thread will be about. Let's go into detail regarding the two issues I mentioned

libvorbis 1.2.2 RC1
Version 1.2.1 was skipped. This Release Candidate's package does NOT ship with documentation as, you may have read in another thread[1], there are problems in the building process. The final release will hopefully have this issue fixed. These are the new changes since the unreleased 1.2.1: * API calls for VENDOR and ENCODER * seek correctly in files bigger than 2 GB (Windows) * fix

The one thread to solve problems in the Vorbis documentation
Since documentation is now becoming an important step in the Xiph roadmap, I figure we might as well have a thread to discuss possible problems. I'd like to bring attention to the following tickets in Trac: * 1158 [1] * 1159 [2] * 1169 [3] They all seem like sensible concerns and possible solutions should be discussed here. -Ivo [1] https://trac.xiph.org/ticket/1158 [2]

Ogg bitwise.c bit tracking
Hi, it seems Ogg keeps track of a packet's size at the byte level, rather than at the bit level (eg, if I encode a packet with just one bit, decode will think there are 8 bits available). Am I right ? Not that it's a particularly important issue, since remaining bits will probably be initialized, but I noticed this while adding some calls to oggpack_look1 at the end of my decode routines

vorbis-tools 1.3.0 BETA - Help testing.
Dear vorbis-dev lurkers, I bring you the first beta release of vorbis-tools 1.3.0. It has quite a few new features and the final version will have even more, so I am sure it is to everyone's benefit that it gets as much tested as possible so we can do a quick release. Here's the changelog so far: * Fixed an error in configure.ac; --with-speex/flac work again (#1319) * Corrected

[PATCH] vorbis-tools, various
Hi, I've just downloaded vorbis-tools-1.2.0-RC4.tar.gz yesterday, and it didn't build on my machine, which, cunningly, has an old libvorbis. The first two patches fix detection of libcurl (which is probably rather old too), and make oggenc build with my libvorbis. An old one, and I forgot to look up its version, and I'm not at home just now. It was before the advanced encoder

I'm patching oggenc with this fix. If Conrad reports success in his test, I'll go ahead and patch all other implementations I can find. -Ivo

OggPCM: support for little-endianness only?
List, A recent discussion over on XiphWiki is trying to decide if OggPCM should support only little-endianness or the usual combo of big and little. It started with the following statement by an user (Qqq): "Portable players are usually ARM, which is usually little-endian. The Macintosh is now little-endian. Obviously the PC is little-endian. Clearly there is a winner. It's long past

Extension .v+ogg does work
Hello everyone, As discussed on last Monthly Meeting, Monty settled on recommending the extension .v+ogg for Theora files IF it would work on Linux. Probably many have tested it already, but I haven't seen anything said publically, so for the record, v+ogg works on both Windows and Linux. Hadn't a chance to test it on Mac OS X, but I'm sure it should work there too. And Plan 9 :)

vorbis-tools 1.2.0 Release Candidate
I bumped the version number of vorbis-tools and am preparing it for an eventual release in a few days. A changelog of what's new may be found at [1]. Meanwhile, what's in SVN is a "Release Candidate" to find out if anything was broken since version 1.1.1. Report any (or lack of) problems you may find, so we'll be able to put out a new version of vorbis-tools. -Ivo [1]

FLAC: decoding to WAV in the future
What Brian Willoughby means is that even though the future is uncertain, you may trust FLAC. The format is mature enough so that you won't see major changes preventing playback of files encoded by older encoders, but even if that comes to happen, the playback libraries on most software will be backwards-compatible, and FLAC is lossless meaning that you may convert FLAC 1.1.4 to a possible

Would Xiph be interested in a logo redesign for Vorbis?
So, in a thread on HA a user asked if some logo was the official one for Vorbis. It turned out not to be, but everyone agreed the official logo was ugly and a bad idea to add on any portable player compilant with Vorbis (or other Ogg media for that matter). The chaps, me included, started a discussion of a redesign, but truth be told, if Xiph isn't interested in a redesign, there's no
