sampling size yet, is this also planned for rc4?
Any idea when vorbis will be able to support all 6 channels?
If I could get the data off the DVD, what are my best options right now
if I wanted to use ogg vorbis? Is there a program which will sample it
down to 44.1khz/16bit/stereo which I could then encode to ogg vorbis?
Thanks,
Bryan

Ogg Vorbis on PPC Linux?
I work for Terra Soft Solutions (makers of Yellow Dog Linux) and I'm
trying to compile the latest cvs snapshot for inclusion in our next
release, but I'm running into some problems...
I'm using modified versions of the SRPMs included in RedHat's Rawhide
distro (I only updated to the latest cvs, but the old version also
experienced this problem), which compile fine on an x86 box I

I don't know enough to tell if this is pilot error on the user's part or a legit problem. Advice requested (also Cc: the original user if you can).

LiveIce/IceCast Error
Greetings everyone....
When I run liveice, I get an "Error:sending data to remote server
message" from liveice, and then it hangs (I actually have to open
another console window to kill the process).
The IceCast server respond with the following:
Kicking source 1 [127.0.0.1] [Access Denied (tcp wrappers (source
connection))] [encoder], connected for 1 seconds, 0 bytes transfered.

I repeated my test with a 44.1kHz/stereo/16bit file. I get a floating point

If it is mainly a music codec, is there something else I should
be using for simple speach recording. I want to record and compress
lecture notes. This would of course be mono and

need help with project on Vorbis
Hello,
First off, please don't ask development questions directly from a
single developer. I tend to answer emails only a few times a month.
You will get much faster help by asking on IRC (#vorbis on freenode)
or on the vorbis mailing list (vorbis at xiph.org or
vorbis-dev at xiph.org).
I am cc:inf vorbis-dev at xiph.org; please continue discussion there.

Performance and precompute_partition_info_sums_32bit_asm_ia32_()
Previously I wrote that precompute_partition_info_sums_32bit_asm_ia32_() only
makes encoding slower. Now I managed to compile flac with GCC 4.8.1, with this
function enabled and disabled. NASM was enabled, SSE intrinsics disabled.
Then I added -msse option (so that all C code was compiled with -msse),
then -msse2 and so on.
Input file for test: 44.1kHz/16bit/stereo; best compression mode (flac

Happy New Year! RC3 Released!
Happy New Year from the Xiphophorus Team.
It took longer than we thought, but I think everyone will agree this is
our best release yet.
With drastic quality improvements and new bitrate management features,
this release brings us one step closer to 1.0.
Along with all the lovely VBR modes you are used to, you now have
millions more. oggenc's quality settings are 0-10 in increments of

FLAC subset
All,
This mail is a survey to get some feedback about changes to the
FLAC Subset (see http://flac.sourceforge.net/format.html#subset).
FLAC hardware support is growing. The PhatBox was the first but
now there's the Rio Receiver, and FLAC is being worked into the
Audio ReQuest box, among others. Based on feedback from this
development I am contemplating restricting the subset a little
more.

[LLVMdev] Build/Install of LLVM without root access
I must not be asking clearly. I have a machine on which I have placed the tarballs - but no internet access.
How do I use the *src.tar.gz files from the llvm 3.4 downloads page? I understand the layout produced by the svn actions, but if I have just the tarballs, do I simply replace "svn co" with "tar -xvzf" in the sequence? How do the names of the tarballs map to the names

In which release did FLAC support 192kHz sample rate?
Greetings,
In reviewing the changelogs it?s unclear in which release FLAC began
supporting a sample rate of 192kHz.
The reason for my question is that there are many forums and university
studies that state that FLAC does not support a sample rate of 192kHz
however the current documentation (assumed 1.2.1b) under FORMAT under
FRAME_HEADER does note that it is supported.
If it was not

AACPlus Shoutcast v1.90
Yes it is 44.1kHz. However SBR is not the original, everything higher then
22.05kHz is recreated. Also Parametric Stereo recreates the Stereo
experience. The actual audio data is simply a 24kbps AAC stream at 22050
mono. Also it is by no means perfect. The highs do have an artificial feel
to them and a little echo. For what it is though most people don't really
get annoyed by it and are

difficulty setting up Samba PDC.. please help... out of ideas
I am trying to test a Samba PDC on our network that currently shares
files as a workgroup (with a different name, of course). Microsoft
states that this can be done, with no issues (so long as the workgroup
and the domain have different names). The permanent home for the shares
is on //receptionist. ( The temporary home for the Samba PDC is on
//haze. ) Once the PDC has been set up

[LLVMdev] Build/Install of LLVM without root access
I am using the source distribution, and the first puzzle is that it doesn't seem to match with the installation instructions from svn. E.g., svn talks about llvm, cfe, compiler-rt, etc; however, the source is in many differently named *.tar.gz files:
clang-3.4.src.tar.gz libcxx-3.4.src.tar.gz polly-3.4.src.tar.gz
clang-tools-extra-3.4.src.tar.gz lld-3.4.src.tar.gz

sending non 44.1Khz-stereo files to oddcast
Have you tried to send mp3 files with other formats than 44khz stereo?
I'm not talking about the encoding quality for send the data to
icecast, else about the quality of mp3 files.
If you do that, the listeners will hear the music faster and higher,
like the little chipmunks in donald duck's, and it will be broken by
no-sound intervals. It happens if the files are mono too.

as I continued exploring Samba 3.0.4 as a PDC, I managed to get
