Here is a patch to fix the compiler warnings I mentioned earlier. I've removed the byte-order changes that don't make sense. (Thanks Michael for pointing out the error!) The problem derives from the fact that the sample rate is set by a call to snd_pcm_hw_params_set_rate_near() in the ALSA API.
