State of Vorbis: Monty's current offline development
Nothing on a branch yet; I'll be building a temp branch for my changes
soon.
First, I'm eliminating ordering dependancies in vorbis_block
structures. They'll be totally sepreate and vorbis_analysis won't
have a global state in vorbis_dsp_state that requires them being done
in order. That way, a parallel-threaded encoder can run multiple
vorbis_blocks through multiple

[BUG] libvorbisfile ov_test() ?

ov_open/ov_test weirdness
Hi,
I've been playing with a little player, and it seems I can't ov_open a file
twice?
heres a snipit...

Bride of vorbisfile questions
I've been playing around with using ov_test and ov_test_open as an alternative
to ov_open in the xmms plugin's vorbis_check_file function. xmms never
bothers to cache the result of a file check, so it tends to happen rather a
lot. Unfortunately ov_test_open returns OV_EINVAL because ov_test seems to
have left vf->ready_state to OPEN rather than PARTOPEN.
I'm presuming this is

vorbisfile.o givng me problems
I have been having problems compling vorbis on my computer( running redhat
7.1 ), it gives me a bunch of errors about vorbisfile.o( at least that what
the errors are complaining about...I don't know enough to figure out what is
wrong ).
Below is the output I get from compile:

Floor codebooks vs. Residue codebooks
Hi,
Please brace yourselves for some possibly stupid questions.
Why are there only 2 codebooks for floors and many more for residue values?
What makes the encoding of floor values fundamentally different from
encoding residue values?
I have a basic understanding of VQ, and looking at the floor decode
function, it all makes sense
1) Read the codebook index from the stream
2) Do a

where to get vorbis files with all configuration the spec support
Hi
According to vorbis I spec, there are several configurations. There are 2
formats of floor, 3 formats of residue and 3 look up types of VQ codebook,
etc. I think to get all kinds of vorbis file with these configurations but
what I have got from network only support some of the formats (Ex. floor1,
residue 1 & 2, VQ lookup type0 & 1). I downloaded several freeware vorbis

ov_raw_seek doesn't work ?
I found a problem with ov_raw_seek function in oggvorbis win32sdk 1.0.
When i called this function it returned OV_EINVAL immediatelly. I
solved the issue by replacing the ov_raw_seek by ov_pcm_seek, which
worked perfectly, but i would like to use the raw variant due to
performace reason . Is anybody aware of this strange behaviour ?

monty's branch test
Hello!
I tested some songs with the new code that Monty merged into the snapshot.
It works better than the previous code ;-), but I noticed some strange
noises made at high frequencies, even at very high bitrates : a continuous,
high-pitched noise is added over the medium voice, and it sounds like a
whistle. The previous code didn't do that. On the other hand, very low
bitrates sound much

Package(s) for making waffle plot-like figures?
Dear all,
I am trying to make a series of waffle plot-like figures for my data to
visualize the ratios of amino acid residues at each position. For each one
of 37 positions, there may be one to four different amino acid residues. So
the data consist of the positions, what residues are there, and the ratios
of residues. The ratios of residues at a position add up to 100, or close
to 100 (more on

***SPAM*** help
vorbisHi
Sorry if it is too stupid to ask the following questions.
I am just confused by the pychoacoustics model. I think the computation in the psy.c is to
derive a curve which stands for the threshold for the mdct coefficient. Is it right ?
If it is right , then what can we do with the curve ? I refered to several articles and find the aim of
most pychoacoustics model was to derive the SMR

Building a new decoder - some questions on the spec (residue decode)
Hi
I am trying to build a new decoder in Java, I know there are a couple
of java decoders already but they don't implement the bit of the spec
I am having questions on
Question 1)
In section 8.6.2 it mentions
"However, it is also possible to set [residue_begin] and [residue_end]
to specify
a range partially or wholly beyond the maximum vector size. Before
beginning residue

retrieving "instant" bitrate without vo_open?
ok, I'm aware that vo_open cant be used at the same time as other functions
such as ogg_sync_wrote, ogg_sync_pageout, ogg_stream_pagein,
ogg_stream_packetout and vorbis_synthesis_headerin. In order to get
information from the bitstream i've been using this method because it's fast
and doesn't require decoding of the stream. But, i can only retrieve the
average bitrate of

Lost residue modifications
Hello,
I'm trying to modify the residue vectors in Vorbis audio files at
encoding time. For testing, I'm just adding +1 to each residue vector's
element, so e.g., if I have an original residue vector of [0,1,2,3] I
modify it during the encoding to be [1,2,3,4], and at the decoder's side
I should receive the [1,2,3,4] vector. The problem is that, after adding
the +1, I still

Spectral phase information in residue vectors
I found this sentence in the Ogg format specs:
http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/doc/vorbis-spec-res.html
"A residue vector may represent spectral lines, spectral magnitude, spectral phase or hybrids as mixed by channel coupling."
But where does the spectral phase information come from ?
AFAIK MDCT doesn't provide any phase information.
And in OGG-encoding, MDCT is taking place a few

plot data with a colour scale - more details!
Hello again,
I am trying to create a color scale plotting the hydroathy index (y-axis) versus residue (x-axis) - each residue (1-100) has a value between 0-1. I've been trying to create a scale where:
0-0.499: increasing intensity of red
0.5- yellow
0.51 - 1 increasing intensity of green.
THis is in lieu of a line graph.
I'm not sure which type of plot to begin with - I attempted to

Clarification on code books usage.
Dear All,
As i have understood it , the Huffman codebook uses a huffman code
present in the bitstream ( lets us say it is decoding a floor 1 Y value
using the specifed codebook number ) to walk through the huffman code
book tree till it hits a leaf node which is nothing but the entry number.
If we consider our floor 1 Y value example , this entry number is
directly being used as the Y value.

Vorbis bitstream specification...
Hi,
I'm looking for more documentation on the Vorbis bitstream format.
The goal for me is to write an optimized decoder using only integer
or fixed point math for use on the Phatnoise Car Audio System
(see http://www.phatnoise.com).
I've already found the info on the Ogg framing system and I've already
written my own thing for parsing through Ogg frames (easy).
Also, is RTP
