ogg123: close_dsp_on_suspend and next_on_SIGUSR1 patches submission
Hi, A developper of MandrakeSoft needed for some reason to ameliorate ogg123 in a way: with the patch when you issue a Ctrl+Z (suspending the app) the dsp is freed. Ofcourse the app can still continue when SIGCONT is received. Apparently he chose to separate the actual code into more functions. Please note that this code uses local functions, it thus needs gcc to compile. -=-=-- ---

R equivilant to RAND_MAX in C
Hello, I have some C code that I'm interfacing to R using the .C calling interface. Currently the C code uses the rand() function from the GNU C library to generate random numbers. Since I need the random numbers in a range from 0 to a (where a is an integer) I use the RAND_MAX macro as (int)(rand() * (float)(*nobs-1) / (RAND_MAX+1.0)) (taken from the rand() manpage) However, since I have

Possible memory leak / xmms input plugin
Hi list, It seems that when playing several OggVorbis files under xmms, there is a memory leak. It's a rather annoying problem because when you have a playlist of 100+ files, xmms will at the end eat something like 100M or more.. Such a memory leak have been reported inside xmms-1.2.2 code and I could see it playing Ogg files and mp3 files ; upgrading to 1.2.3 solves the problem with mp3

Dunif and Punif
Hi, I am trying to use dunif and runif however, I have two problems: if I do dunif(1:10, min=1, max=10) I get 10 values, which summed give me 1.1111 I understand that the probability is computed as f(x) = 1 / (max-min) but in this case it looks wrong: I have 10 values, each one equiprobable, and the probability for each one should be 0.1 and not 0.11111 (which is, consistently with the

Compiling R on Sunos
I'm looking for some help in getting R to compile on Sunos. We run a collection of Sunos and Solaris machines in the department here. I got to compile on Solaris 2.5.1 using gcc 2.7.2.2. On my Sunos 4.1.3 (and I've tried it on Sunos 4.1.4 as well) machines, it crashes during the compile. I'm using gcc 2.8.1 on there. It gets to this point: gcc -g -O2 -I../include

[LLVMdev] patches and problem...
Here I am again... I missed that in the previous diff, they are the usual missing <algorithm> and the std:: namespace missing in sort, find, make_pair. Alkis can you please give them an eye when you have time? The next major problem is that VC has only int rand(void) void srand( int seed ) So I donno how to compile the ExecutionEngine/Interpreter/ExternalFunctions.cpp that refers to the

patch to add device-option to ogg123 rc file
Below is a patch for vorbis-tools-1.0beta4 ogg123. It adds support for using the rc file (like /etc/ogg123.rc) for configuring the device-options. In addition, comments can be used (when they start a line). My ~/.ogg123rc: default_device=oss default_options=dsp:/dev/audio Please share your comments. Jeremy C. Something wrong with echo_diagnostic.m
Hello everyone, I'm a new comer to this mailing list. I found that the echo_diagnostic.m included in speex-1.2rc1 seems to have grammar mistakes which cause parse error in octave 3.6.2. I wonder if anyone have ever executed this code under octave/matlab. I also made some minor modifications to the file to correct those errors and publish it here. If it can helps the project to be more

4-stable and C rand()?
Hi everyone, sorry if this has been answered before - I caught a whiff of a discussion about c's rand() function in a mailing list archive, but couldn't find a definitive answer. I'm trying to do a simple CS project on my machine where I generate two sets of values in parallel using rand() and am running into infinite loops of values, and couldn't figure out why, so I wrote a test

re cognizing patterns
DeaRs, i'm looking for some references on a statement as follows: "Humans are good at spotting trends and patterns in data, but they are also good at spotting those patterns where none really exist". This is not verbatim but there must be some scholarly work on this. I can't remember where I came across it - perhaps I dreamed it up? Help, anyone? Best wishes Paul -- View this

How do you test for "consecutivity"?
I need to use R to model a large number of experiments (say, 1000). Each experiment involves the random selection of 5 numbers (without replacement) from a pool of numbers ranging between 1 and 30. What I need to know is what *proportion* of those experiments contains two or more numbers that are consecutive. So, for instance, an experiment that yielded the numbers 2, 28, 31, 4, 27 would be

Default delay time for Attended call
A call comes in from the PSTN, Asterisk answers it, it goes to the directory, and then to the extension the caller designates and the user at that extension answers. The user at the extension then wants to transfer the call to another extension; on the Cisco 7940 they push the ?more? soft key, then the ?Transfer? soft key, then enter the extension number they want to transfer to, and hit the
